A visiting friend from Singapore came 2 days ago and gave us a layer cake, supposedly the most popular and tastiest in Singapore. The layer cake comes with prunes wedged in the middle and on top of the cake.
We were told that this small piece of layer cake costs over RM100!
So how did it taste? Well, not too sweet and not too rich that it will make one feel ‘jai’ very fast. I actually like it and have been eating it everyday. That’s the reason why I had to workout doubly hard at the gym today… and tomorrow too, to burn off those extra calories gained from gorging on this darn tasty layer cake!

Looks so mouth-watering~~~
crazy!
Just had some yesterday. yummy. i like the one with lots of prunes in between the layer. It is very popular in my hometown, Medan, Indonesia. Yes, they are expensive. but not as expensive as in singapore or malaysia or elsewhere. The plain one without prunes also vey nice.
Yup this darn cake is pretty expensive .. especially the good ones. If you find a real cheap one, dont bother sinking your teeth in it, not worth it.
looks yummy….but for RM100…..i guess is abit too pricey lah!
Wow it look really good and yummy.
Is it from Bengawan Solo? I also bought two 1kg layer cake from my recent trip to Jakarta. Also RM100 each! but darn yummy yah……..
Phaik Ling…yes, you’re right! It’s from Bengawan Solo!
There is an Indonesian lady here who makes it and we get it for Xmas as it’s very rich and also a bit pricey. It’s very labour-intensive and the ingredients(eggs, butter etc) are costly. Try and drizzle a bit of rum or brandy before serving…wonderful with coffee!
Bengawan Solo’s layer cake ONLY become pricey after getting popularity from Singaporean!!!
Looks yummy. I think RM100 is quite ok considering the exchange rate from Singapore!!
really looks yummy & tempting. But too pricey. Once in a while OKlah. esp to spend for Christmas with family.
Is there a place where I can buy this layer cake in DC or New York? I had this cake when I was young and it was very delicious…
Irene… I really hv no idea. Perhaps you can do a google search on it?
