When I was having lunch at Gardens, Mid Valley the other day, I stumbled across a little store selling bread. Sbread only sells 3 types of bread, i.e. Bamboo Charcoal bread, black sesame seeds bread and multi-grain bread. They also sell homemade yam kaya and pandan kaya, cooked at the store itself.
From left : black sesame seeds bread, multi-grain bread and bamboo charcoal bread.
The yam kaya and pandan kaya being cooked at the store. The kaya is really tasty, rich, full of santan (coconut milk) taste and creamy. I bought a jar of yam kaya. The yam kaya has huge chunks of yam in it. Really yummy…. and fattening!
After sampling the bread and the delicious kaya, I bought half a loaf of black sesame seeds bread and half a loaf of bamboo charcoal bread.
Since I did not bring Baby C’s porridge along, I gave her some black sesame seeds bread to nibble on while the hubs and I had lunch at Canton-I. Â I know, I know, by right I shouldn’t give her black sesame seeds as they are not digestible by a small baby’s guts…. shoot this mummy! The black sesame seeds came out in her poop the next day!
Verdict : will definitely buy the bread and both the kaya again.

Min… the charcoal bread tastes like a regular white bread, except that it’s black in color. There are also sunflower seeds and bamboo flakes in the bread.
Shireen, thanks!! i guess she will be able to accept it! 🙂
Oh the bamboo charcoal bread, saw it at 8TV Hochiak programme. What is the taste? Nice?
oh man…your post is making me so hungry. i dare not buy their kayas because they are sooo rich. very fattening!!
It is sure a healthy bread to eat on..I will get that and try too on my next trip to MV.
i will go buy and try it since its healthy
Have always wanted to try the charcoal bread but dare not cos it’s too black… feel “geli”. Now that you say it’s nice, hmm, will prob get it the next time i see it 🙂
Not sure why sesame seeds are not to be fed to kids…it will show up in the poop as does corn and almost anything with high fibre( in one of my kids a shiney sequin too!). It just means you are doing the right thing feeding kids food with fibre.
Hi there! This bread looks so cool. I have a question and maybe you can help me. I’ve just learned about charcoal bread and i would love to try and make some my own since they do not sell it here in NY. I’ve been searching for a recipe online figuring that maybe that would be the best way to try it, but I can’t find any posted online. Do know of any recipes where you live? Or maybe know someone that I can ask or a website that I can visit? I know it’s a longshot, but I figured I’d try it out! You can email me at nanditablogs (at) gmail (dot) com
Alejandra… I’ve done a google search for the recipe but can’t get any results for it. So sorry I cant be of help.
