Sumptuous Saturday Dinner at Bircos: A Modern Indian Culinary Delight

Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of dining at Bircos, a modern Indian restaurant that my husband recently discovered. He had visited Bircos with his friends and was very impressed with the food. We were in for a real treat, and the evening turned out to be a memorable culinary experience.

Bircos offers a contemporary twist on traditional Indian cuisine, and we were excited to try some of their specialties. My husband, who always has a keen sense for good food, took charge of ordering a lovely spread for us to share. The meal started with chicken biryani rice, a fragrant and flavorful dish that set the tone for the rest of the evening. The rice was cooked to perfection, with tender pieces of flavorful chicken hidden within, each bite bursting with aromatic spices.

Next up were the fish tacos, a delightful fusion dish that combined the rich flavors of Indian spices with the lightness of fresh fish. The tacos were a refreshing contrast to the other dishes, offering a unique and modern take on Indian cuisine. The cheese naan was another highlight, its warm, buttery layers filled with gooey, melted cheese, making it an irresistible accompaniment to the curries.

One of our all-time favorite dishes, the Palak Paneer, did not disappoint. The creamy spinach sauce, perfectly spiced and balanced, was the ideal backdrop for the soft, succulent cubes of paneer. We also savored the butter chicken masala (another favorite Indian dish of ours), a rich and creamy dish that was both comforting and satisfying. The chicken was tender, and the sauce had just the right amount of sweetness and spice.

The mutton vindaloo was another standout, offering a spicier kick that my husband particularly enjoyed. The mutton was cooked until tender, and the fiery vindaloo sauce was full of bold, intense flavors that lingered pleasantly on the palate.  Cass requested the Punjabi samosa, a crispy, golden pastry filled with a spiced potato mixture that was simply delightful. The Methi Paratha bread added a touch of earthy flavor to the meal, its subtle bitterness from the fenugreek and other herby flavors balancing the richness of the other dishes.

Unfortunately, Sherilyn couldn’t join us again as she had dance rehearsals that evening. However, we ordered an extra portion of Palak Paneer for her to enjoy later, knowing how much she loves it. The servings at Bircos were generous, and despite our best efforts, we couldn’t finish all the rotis. We gladly had them doggy-bagged home, extending our delicious dinner to the next day.

The prices at Bircos were reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food. The restaurant’s ambiance was warm and inviting, and the waiting staff were exceptionally helpful, making our dining experience even more enjoyable.

Bircos has definitely earned a spot on our list of favorite restaurants, and we look forward to returning soon to explore more of their modern Indian creations. Whether you’re a fan of traditional Indian dishes or curious about innovative takes on familiar flavors, Bircos is a must-visit.

5 Simple Ways To Relieve Stress and Relax

In our frenetic life in this competitive world, stress has become our constant companion. It is of vital importance to prioritize our mental health and find effective ways to relax and relieve stress. Failure to take care of our mental health can lead to depression, anxiety and panic attacks.  Here are six simple ways to help you relax and tame stress, allowing you to reclaim your sanity and happiness.

1.  Meditate

Meditation is a popular way to bring short-term stress. It does not cost you any money and brings lasting stress management benefits. There are many forms of meditation and you can try out each method to see which works best for you.

You can form a mantra in your mind which you repeat softly while you take slow deep breaths. Or, you might take a few minutes to practice mindfulness, which involves being in the moment. Mindfulness involves concentrating on what you see, hear, taste, touch, and smell.

Praying is also a form of meditation. Repetitive prayer, such as the Lord’s Prayer or the Universal Mantra can be a form of meditation to help release anxiety and unhappiness.

2.  Application of Steam Eye Mask

The steam eye mask from Ditoi is an innovative self-care product that offers a unique blend of soothing heat and comfort like a mini eye spa that can help you unwind, relax, and destress. This product is made from a non-woven fabric soaked in hyaluronic acid essence and plant essence and freeze-dried to hydrate dry skin around the eyes. It can relieve eye strain and fatigue, soothe you to sleep, offer an overall calming and relaxing feeling to your eyes, and put you in a better mood. Its portability makes this steam eye mask convenient to carry with you anywhere. You can use it during your lunch break in the office, on the plane, in the car, and before bedtime.

3.  Regular Exercise

Prioritizing physical activity is key to managing stress and keeping mental health in check. When you exercise, your body pumps up your brain’s feel-good hormones, called endorphins while cortisol, also known as the stress hormones are busted. According to research, a 20 to 30-minute cardio activity can help you feel less stressed.

4.  Do Things That Bring You Joy

Listening to music or singing is a great stress reliever.  It takes the stress off your mind when you belt out the lyrics of your favorite songs on the radio. If music and singing aren’t your jam, turn your attention to other hobbies you enjoy such as dancing, painting, reading, ice skating, baking, cooking, or even shopping. Retail therapy is a great way to de-stress!

5.  Get a Pet

Studies show that patting a pet can help reduce your stress and even blood pressure. Pets help you relax and cope better when you’re unhappy and under high pressure in difficult times and situations. They bring you happiness and make you laugh at their antics. Playing and snuggling up with a pet can raise levels of the feel-good brain chemicals oxytocin and dopamine, creating happy feelings for the person and their pet.

Conclusion

It is vital to prevent and manage stress because long-term stress can increase your risk for a wide range of health issues such as depression, anxiety, heart disease, high blood pressure, and other diseases.  Whether you engage in kickboxing to kick out your blues or pamper yourself with a steam eye mask to relieve tension in your eyes and head, learning to wind down and chill takes practice. It is possible to learn how to cope with your stress and stay happy.

Embarking on the Journey to Becoming an Architect

Sherilyn, my middle daughter, has just completed her Foundation in Natural & Built Environments. I’ve repeatedly asked her if a degree in Architecture is truly what she wants to pursue. After nearly a year of intensive coursework filled with back-to-back assignments, countless all-nighters, and very little sleep, it pains me to see her endure such challenges. However, Sherilyn remains steadfast in her decision.

Next week, I need to pay her registration fee for the Bachelor of Science in Architecture. I hope Sherilyn will have the determination and resilience to see this three-year degree through to completion. And this is just the beginning. After earning her degree, she’ll need to work as a junior architect, pursue and complete a Master’s degree, and then pass the LAM exam (Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia) to become a registered architect. It’s going to be a long and challenging journey, and I sincerely hope she can achieve her ultimate goal.

Even though she’s on a month-long break now, Sherilyn is now actively organizing an event in her university to showcase the works that she and her course mates have completed. The showcase event is open to the public and she’s the team leader. Besides her uni project, she is also very busy rehearsing for several upcoming dance competitions. I really don’t understand this daughter of mine. She rarely has the time to rest and relax and yet she is finding so much challenge and joy in this lifestyle of hers!

Sherilyn discarded a stack of printouts of her portrait used for a college assignment recently. I retrieved them from the dustbin 🤫

Essential Things To Pack In Your Travel Backpack

Going on a vacation is a lifetime dream for many of us. Whether you’re backpacking in Europe, finding the Northern Lights in Finland, or camping in the Amazon jungle, packing for your trip can be the bane of your life before the trip.  If you’ve got a history of forgetting something important, write down a list of useful essentials to bring along for your holidays.

Here’s a quick rundown of the main essentials to pack before you leave the house:

  • Passport (for overseas trips)
  • Phone charger and power bank
  • Disposable face towels
  • Local currency
  • Spare clothes
  • Spare socks
  • Spare underwear
  • Sunscreen
  • Medicines/painkillers
  • Wet wipes
  • Toiletries (if the hotel or Air BNB does not provide)

1)  Passport

If you’re going on an overseas trip, this is the most crucial thing to note – make sure that your passport is valid and have at least six months on your passport before it expires. Also, check whether the country that you’re visiting requires a VISA for entry.

2)  Phone charger and a power bank

We’ve all been there – the sinking feeling when you whipped out your phone to snap some must-take photos only to find that your phone ran out of battery!  Bring a phone charger and power bank as a backup to give your phone some juice on the go. There are charging stations in most airports. You don’t want to miss the great photo opportunities when you’re on holiday.

3)  Disposable Travel Face Towels

These may not seem like an essential item to bring with you when you travel but they can be life-saving. You can’t foretell mishaps happening – whether it’s a minor issue like your child throwing up all over you or the airport toilet running out of clean paper towels. Pack some disposable travel face towels in a ziploc bag and keep them in your handbag to keep your kids and yourself clean and comfortable throughout your holiday. These chemical-free disposable travel face towels from Ditoi Beauty are thick, sturdy, soft and so convenient to stash them in your hand-carry bag or pocket.

4)  Local Currency

It’s best to find a local money changer in your home country that will get you a better rate than changing your cash at the airport or overseas country that you’ll be going to. Budget how much cash you would need for each day and work from there.

5)  Spare Clothes, Socks, and Underwear

Pack enough clothes, socks, and underwear for your trip (and maybe two or three extras). You can always wash some of your thin clothes, socks, and underwear during your travels if you do run out.

6)  Sunscreen

SPF sunscreen is one of the most important things you can pack in a travel backpack, even if you’re visiting a country that’s experiencing winter. It’s important to use sun lotion in winter even if the sun doesn’t seem that strong, because it’s the radiation that causes sunburn and sun damage, not how hot or strong the sun is.

7)  Medicines/Painkillers/Supplements

Medicines and supplements that you’ll need during your travels are the most important items to pack after your passport. For any prescribed medicines you take daily, set an alarm on your phone so that you remember to take it.

8)  Wet wipes

Wet wipes in travel packs are another must-pack item for any trip big or small. They come in super handy for so many things and do not weigh much in your bag.

9) Toiletries

Get a small toiletries essential bag in advance and fill it with all the personal items that you need for your upcoming trip. The easiest way to accomplish this is by using a Ziploc or other brands of disposable plastic baggies with a slider zip.

Conclusion

Packing for a trip doesn’t have to be stressful. Plan ahead of your trip and you will not miss out on any essential item. Decide what items to put in your handbag and what to put in the check-in bags. Your handbag should have essential items that you need during the journey or flight, such as your passport, VISA, wallet, Ditoi Beauty disposable face towels, wet wipes, phone, and important documents. The rest of the items can be packed into the check-in bags. Remember to create a packing list and make sure that you check the list thoroughly. Happy holidays and safe travels!

Celebration Week: A Family Reunion and a Special Birthday

This week is a momentous occasion for our family (from my side), filled with joy and heartfelt celebrations. Today, my parents are traveling from Ipoh, and my older brother’s family is coming from Singapore to gather in Kuala Lumpur. My younger brother, Roy, drove from KL back to Ipoh yesterday and will be driving our parents down to KL today. The reason for this grand reunion is to celebrate my dad’s 81st birthday, making it a much-anticipated family event since the pandemic.

The last time my parents visited KL was five years ago in 2019. That was before the pandemic gripped the world and changed everything forever. This will be the first time in half a decade that our family celebrates a birthday together in Kuala Lumpur. The anticipation and excitement are palpable as we all prepare for this long-awaited reunion.

My parents and Roy are on their way from Ipoh now.  My parents have always been the cornerstone of our family, and their presence makes every gathering special. Roy, always the dependable one, ensured that everything was in place for their trip.

Meanwhile, my older brother’s family is making their way from Singapore. Despite the distance, they have always made it a point to be present for important family events.

The reunion is not just a family gathering; it is a celebration of life, resilience, and togetherness. After five long years, seeing everyone together again is a dream come true. The pandemic has taught us the value of family and the preciousness of moments spent together. This week, we are not just celebrating my dad’s birthday but also cherishing the time we have with each other.

One of the things I am most excited about is the opportunity to catch up with everyone. Life gets busy, and we often get caught up in our routines. This reunion gives us a chance to update each other on our lives, share stories, and reconnect.

Importance of Clean Towels For Clear Skin

Most of us see towels as an item we use every day without giving much thought to it. But have you ever stopped to question if the towel that you’re using every day to wipe your face really clean?  If you have sensitive skin and are prone to acne and breakouts on your face, your face towel could be one of the causes of these skin issues.

Just like pillowcases, your towels can harbor bacteria and cause acne when not washed regularly or properly. The dirt, oil, makeup, and other pathogens from a dirty towel can be transferred to your skin, causing acne breakouts, rashes, irritation, and even an infection if you have raw or open wounds on your face.

Enter disposable clean towels to mitigate the issue of dirty face towels. If you’re constantly facing time and space constraints, thus don’t wash your towels regularly, you can switch to disposable clean towels to dry your face. The single-use paper towels from Ditoi are soft, thick, and absorbent, and perfect for wiping your face.

Let’s discuss why disposable clean towels should be incorporated into your skincare routine for overall better skin health.

Hygienic and Uncontaminated

If you have problematic skin such as acne, you’ll probably know that there’s an easy recipe for a breakout. If you want to use a washcloth in your face-wash routine, keep it clean with regular washing. The rule of thumb is to wash the towel after no more than three uses or even more often, especially when the towel smells musty, sweaty, or feels dirty. If you can’t keep to that washing frequency, switch to disposable clean towels to pat dry your face after washing.  Ditoi disposable towels go through high-temperature steam sterilization technology and are the dermatologist-approved hygienic way for acne-prone skin.

No Bacterial Build-Up On Disposable Towels

When washcloths or towels are not washed frequently and properly, they become a perfect breeding ground for bacteria and mold. Bacteria and mold can also breed on washed towels that are not dried properly.  Bacteria can survive regular detergent and room-temperature washing, so your towels may still have microbes on them with regular washing. Bacteria can only be killed in boiling point water (100°C and above) and with activated oxygen bleach to thoroughly clean towels. To simplify things, using disposable clean towels to dry and clean your face eliminates the chance of reintroducing bacteria to your face, thus reducing the risk of a breakout.

Skin-Loving

Ditoi disposable face towels are made with 100% biodegradable natural fibers that will not irritate the delicate skin on your face. These soft and durable cleaning towelettes with no fragrance and no added chemical or fluorescent dye are suitable for all skin types, especially for people with sensitive skin who may find regular towels too coarse. Regular towels can also leave behind lint and fibers on your skin after wash, which can clog pores and cause skin issues.  The soft texture of Ditoi face towels leaves skin feeling soft and smooth.

Conclusion

Prioritizing the care of your skin, especially your face should be the first step in your self-care routine. Your face is the first thing that people notice about you and that’s why you have to nurture the skin on your face to get clear and flawless skin. One of the simple steps you can take is to clean your face twice a day and pat it dry with a clean and uncontaminated towel.  Ditoi disposable clean towels are a good investment to pamper your face to achieve clearer skin while enjoying the convenience they offer.

Update on Alycia’s Injured Finger

Today marks almost two months since Alycia’s freakish kitchen accident that nearly cost her a finger. The accident happened on 6 June 2024. As we returned to the surgeon’s office for a follow-up, we were hopeful but cautious about the progress of her recovery.

Progress Report

The good news is that Alycia’s injured finger has shown some improvement. She can now bend and straighten the finger, though the tip of the finger still cannot be completely straightened. The doctor reassured us that it will take time for the finger to regain its full range of motion. While there is a chance that the tip may never look entirely original again, the finger is still functioning well.

The Reality of Recovery

The doctor explained that the aesthetics of the finger might not return to 100% normal. However, the functionality is the priority, and Alycia’s finger is working fine. It may recover completely with time, but only patience and persistence will reveal the full extent of the healing process.

Mallet Finger Splint

To expedite the finger’s mobility, the doctor recommended a Mallet Finger Splinting device for Alycia to wear while sleeping. This splint aims to support the finger and enhance its straightening ability during the night. We purchased the splint from the Rehabilitation Department of SJMC, though it was not claimable through insurance, as rehab devices typically aren’t covered.

Continuing the Journey

In addition to the splint, Alycia will continue her DIY finger physiotherapy exercises. These exercises are crucial for maintaining and improving the finger’s mobility. With consistent effort and the added support of the Mallet Finger Splint, we are hopeful that Alycia’s finger will look and function as close to 100% as possible over time.

Looking Ahead

Our next appointment with the surgeon is in four weeks. This ongoing journey of recovery has been challenging, but Alycia’s resilience and determination are inspiring. We are grateful for the progress made so far and remain optimistic about the future.

Mallet Finger splint on Alycia’s left ring finger.

My second time in less than a year at SJMC’s Rehab Dept. I was here with Sherilyn not too long ago when she had a bad lateral ankle sprain while doing a college group assignment at a park. The sprain was so bad that she needed to wear an ankle guard purchased from SJMC and went for many rounds of physiotherapy. She also needed crutches to move around for several weeks.

A Night We’ll Never Forget: Alycia’s Kitchen Accident

It’s been seven weeks since that fateful night when Alycia had a freakish kitchen mishap that almost cost her a finger. The memory of that night still haunts me, but time has begun to heal the emotional wounds. I’ve kept a photo from that night, taken in the ER of the first hospital we rushed to. I never had the desire to post it on my blog because it’s too graphic, and looking at it brings back the traumatic experience. But as time goes by, I feel more ready to share what happened.

For those of you who missed my my post in early June 2024 on the accident, I’ll do a quick recap here.

It was a Thursday night, 6 June 2024. That night started off like any other. Alycia was in the kitchen washing a glass container after eating mangoes that I had cut for her. Suddenly, there was a loud crash and a scream. Alycia was screaming to me that she had a very deep cut on her finger and it was very painful. I rushed in to find Alycia holding her hand, blood pouring out from a deep cut on her finger. My heart sank, and I immediately knew we had to get her to the hospital.

I drove to the nearest hospital in our neighborhood, and the ride felt like an eternity. Alycia’s finger was wrapped in a thick towel and she was in so much pain. All I could do was try to keep her calm and told her that whatever it is, the doctors will surely be able to fix the finger. When we arrived, the ER staff quickly attended to her. The doctor examined her finger and informed us that it was badly injured and she required surgery in the OT to save it. My heart broke hearing those words. The doctor gave Alycia an anti-tetanus jab and bandaged up the wound.

From this hospital, we went to two other hospitals and were told that most of the private hospitals in the Klang Valley had no more rooms, even for ’emergency’ cases. I don’t know how serious an emergency case had to be in order to get a room but thank God, we finally got a room at SJMC after midnight. I guess Alycia’s injury was considered serious enough to warrant a room. She stayed in the hospital for 3 nights and was discharged on Sunday.

I managed to take a photo of Alycia in the ER, with her hand being treated. It’s a very bloody and gory image, and I’ve blurred out the doctor’s face for privacy. The photo captures the severity of the injury, and looking at it reminds me of the fear and helplessness I felt that night. But as difficult as it is to look at, it also reminds me of Alycia’s strength and resilience.

Now, seven weeks later, Alycia is finally free from the splint and bandage. Her finger is still a bit stiff, and she has to do finger exercises to regain full mobility. We’re hoping she won’t need to see a physiotherapist, but we’re prepared for whatever comes next. Alycia is determined to recover fully, and I’m confident she will. Her next appointment to see the hand & microsurgery doctor is this Friday.

Time has a way of healing wounds, both physical and emotional. Sharing this story again and the photo feels like a step towards moving past the trauma of that night. Alycia’s courage and perseverance continue to inspire me, and I’m grateful for the support and care she received from the medical staff and our family.

Alycia’s shirt had so much blood on it that I threw it away. I couldn’t bring myself to wash it.

Stylish and Practical: The Perfect Wardrobe for Teachers

If you’re going to start a new job as a teacher, you’ll probably want to know if there are specific teacher clothes that you should wear to appear professional but are also comfortable in front of a classroom full of students. You also have to consider whether the school you’re going to teach has air-conditioned classrooms or just ceiling fans. This way, you can shop for clothes that are appropriate for the temperature and setting in the classrooms. For example, if the classrooms only have ceiling fans and the weather is hot and humid, you should choose clothes made from light and breathable materials. If the classrooms have air-conditioners, then you can wear a cardigan or jacket over your clothes.

While students from most schools have uniforms, the teacher has to choose a suitable outfit every day.  From teacher t-shirts to teacher dresses, having comfortable, stylish, and practical clothing can make a significant difference in your teaching experience.  Let’s see how teachers can make sensible clothing choices and how you can be stylish while also maintaining a consummate professional image.

Versatile Teacher Shirts

Teacher shirts are one of the most versatile clothing items in an educator’s closet..  These shirts are versatile as they pair well with any bottom – pants and skirts, allowing flexibility to mix and match for different looks. When choosing a teacher’s shirt, choose designs with practical features such as pockets and button-down styles, which can be handy for carrying stationery items or adjusting for comfort

Graphic tees with educational themes, humor, or inspirational quotes are popular among teachers as they add a touch of personality, and humor and also serve to educate your students.

Modest Yet Stylish Teacher Dresses

Teacher dresses should be modest yet stylish. Look for dresses with practical features and cutting, such as pockets to place small stationery items, comfortable material, and A-line or fit-and-flare style for ease of moving about swiftly. Choose dresses with modest hemlines such as knee-length, midi, or below-knee. Also, choose dresses in versatile colors and patterns for easy pairing with cardigans, jackets, and accessories to create different looks.

Fun and Functional Back-to-School Shirts

Back-to-school shirts are an amusing way to kick off the new school year and show your love for teaching. These shirts often feature playful designs or catchlines that celebrate the start of a new academic year. They can be worn on the first day of school or during special school events to help create a positive and welcoming atmosphere for your students.

Conclusion

Owning a consummate collection of clothes appropriate for a teacher is essential for creating a versatile and practical wardrobe. Invest in tailored pants, skirts in modest hemlines, modest blouses, teacher shirts, and fit-and-flare dresses. Consider smart jogger pants and jeans for more relaxed days or special occasions like the school’s sports day, jogathon days and field trips. Also, consider investing in comfortable shoes as teachers spend a great amount of time on their feet.

With a collection of comfortable, durable, practical and stylish clothes appropriate for a teacher, you can slay the day and tackle both the challenges in the classroom and school with confidence and style.

Camera Crumbs

Last Saturday hubby had to work in the evening and couldn’t have dinner with us. Weekends are the only days that he gets to eat with us but if he has work, I will settle the girls’ dinner.

As I was busy and also lazy to cook and drive out for dinner, I ordered food from Shopee Food. I ordered Vietnamese noodle salad with grilled lemongrass chicken from Pho Viet for Alycia and Sherilyn. For Cass, she chose to order something different as I’ve always been ordering the same thing from Pho Viet. I’ve ordered food from other restaurants previously but none of the food really satisfied us as much as the food from Pho Viet. For food delivery orders, the food always didn’t taste as good as when eaten at the restaurant. Pho Viet is the only restaurant that never failed to satisfy us.

So Cass spent the morning browsing her Shopee app and finally ordered noodles in fish maw soup from one Yat Tong restaurant @ Kuchai Lama. I kept dissuading Cass not to order soupy noodles as I am not comfortable with hot soup being placed in plastic bags or containers. But this stubborn girl went ahead to order – with me paying 🙄

The noodles and soup were very impressive. The soup was packed in a single-use thick plastic pouch with a cap, which was leak-proof and very unique. The fish maw soup tasted and looked almost identical to the golden fish maw soup from Haidilao. The noodles had a generous serving of lean pork slices and bursting balls.

Fish maw noodles soup from Yat Tong restaurant, Kuchai Lama. Very tasty but I find the bursting balls very salty.

Cass also pan fried some meat dumplings to go with her bowl of soupy noodles.

Our greedy girl hoping to get a treat from her sister but nope, we don’t give her anything that’s salty.

Takeaway fish maw soup stored in this thick leak-proof plastic pouch with a sealed cap.

Supermoon on Monday. The moon was actually super huge but appears small in photo. My younger brother stays at one of the 3-block condos opposite ours. He recently moved in. It’s about 5-10 minutes’ walk from my condo.

New skirts from Shein. I didn’t intend to post the photos here. I took the photos to write a review on the Shein website to earn points (money). But I’m very pleased with the hot pink ruched bodycon short skirt and black midi tight skirt with thigh-high slit, thus my posting here to share. Both the skirts cost no more than RM80 and the quality is very good.

Level Up Your Fitness Wardrobe with High-Quality Gym Clothes

The right gym clothing can help you to achieve your fitness goals. High-quality workout apparel boosts your confidence and enhances your workout experience and performance. Here’s a guide to exercise-friendly clothes that can elevate your fitness regimen.

Comfortable Workout Shirts

A good workout shirt with a comfortable bottom is essential for any fitness routine.  The range of workout shirts from Iron Panda Fit is crafted with style and comfort in mind. Whether you’re jamming the gym, or yoga studio, hitting the tarmac, or engaging in HIIT, Iron Panda Fit has everything you need to provide the comfort and support you need to perform optimally.

When choosing tees for your workout, opt for tees made from lightweight and sweat-wicking materials to prevent overheating and ensure you’re comfortable throughout your workout sessions.   Try to avoid wearing heavy clothes as this can cause quicker exhaustion, shorter workouts, and less efficiency throughout.  Baggy clothes can get tangled in a gym machine you’re using and you will find it harder to monitor your movements whereas tight clothes may be suffocating and restrict your movements.

Graphic Gym Tees for a Trendy Look

If you’re the type who likes to add a touch of character to your gym clothes, graphic gym tees are a great choice. These tees are aesthetically designed with eye-catching graphics, witty humor, or inspirational quotes. Wearing tees that express your perspective or motto can give you that extra motivation to reach your workout goals with vigour.

Unisex Scoop Bottom Cotton Tank

Opt For Performance Shorts for Optimal Mobility

Men’s performance shorts are crafted to provide the wearer with maximum comfort and mobility. Selecting bottoms designed with sweat-wicking technology is essential to keep you dry and comfortable. Choose lightweight and stretchy materials to enable you to perform a full range of motion, whatever the workout. You may also wish to choose shorts with pockets to put small essential items when you work out.

Men’s Performance Training Shorts With Hidden Pocket

Women’s Gym Crop Tops for Comfort and Style

If you want to combine fashion, function, and comfort during a workout, women’s gym crop tops are the perfect choice.  Crop tops enable you to move more freely and concentrate on your workout while keeping you cool. Your body temperature rises when you exercise and you start to sweat profusely. A crop top allows heat to escape from your midsection, keeping you cooler faster, and more comfortable. Wear a comfortable sports bra underneath and you’re all set to achieve your fitness goals.

Investing in better-quality gym shirts and apparel can bring about a notable difference in your workout performance and overall experience. You will feel more confident in your appearance and working out will be more enjoyable. If you’re serious about improving your fitness, protecting yourself from injury, or just feeling more comfortable while you exercise, invest in the right workout gear and your body will thank you for it!

Roundup of Updates For The Week

My lasered foot for the removal of a viral wart is almost healed (about 98%). It’s no longer in multiple layers of plaster, bandage and cling wrap but only in a plaster. I can walk pretty normally now but I am still wary of putting too much pressure on the wound as it is not 100% closed up yet. I’ve not started to run yet, but walking a lot more than I did two weeks ago.

This is how my foot looked a week ago. The reason why I used plastic food cling wrap to wrap the area is because the plaster does not stick on well to the heel. Because of the location of the wound, it’s hard for the plaster to stick securely, thus the use of cling wrap.

Picture on top – the wound as of 25 July 2024 vs. wound on 11 July 2024 at the bottom.

I decided not to put any food photos in this post as food and graphic wound photos just don’t chime in.🤮 No matter how delicious the food may look, it won’t look appetizing next to a bloody wound.😜

Here’s the link to the You Tube video of Sherilyn’s dance cover for the song Gyubin – Really Like You by her dance studio. It’s a Kpop dance performed in The Starhill, KL last week.

Update on Alycia’s Injured Finger: A Six-Week Journey to Recovery

Friday, 19 July 2024 ~ Today marks exactly six weeks since Alycia’s freakish kitchen mishap that almost cost her a finger. The journey has been long and painful, but we are finally seeing some progress.

After six weeks of keeping her injured finger in a splint and her entire left hand wrapped in a big bandage, Alycia finally had them removed. I could feel her relief too! The moment was a significant milestone in her recovery. While the finger is still stiff, removing the splint and bandage is a positive step forward. Alycia must now focus on finger exercises to regain mobility. The surgeon commented that the stiffness on the finger is caused by scars on the tendons as well as scars on the skin.

Despite the progress, Alycia’s finger is not out of the woods yet. If there is not much improvement in two weeks, she may have to see a physiotherapist twice a week. To avoid this, which adds to the cost and time, I constantly remind Alycia to diligently perform her finger exercises. We are hopeful that with consistent effort, her finger’s mobility will improve, and she can avoid additional therapy.

After the doctor’s appointment, we decided to celebrate Alycia’s progress with a lunch at SJMC’s cafe. Alycia ordered lasagna, which she said tasted very much like the one her dad makes in his central kitchen. It was a comforting and delicious meal after weeks of hospital visits and treatments.

To further celebrate the removal of the splint and bandage, Alycia requested a sofuto from Family Mart. She chose a matcha sofuto, her favorite. It was a small but meaningful treat to mark a big step in her recovery journey.

While Alycia still has a bit of a journey ahead, the removal of the splint and bandage is a significant milestone. We are optimistic that with continued finger exercises, she will regain full mobility in her injured finger.

Hubby kept telling us that he had a similar accident when he cut his third finger with a pen knife when he was 17 years old. This resulted in his finger being stitched up in a clinic. That was 36 years ago and in those days, accidents like this did not require reconstruction in the OT or physiotherapy. After the accident, he could not bend his third finger for a long time and it took him over a year before he could finally bend it. He reassured Alycia that her finger would regain full mobility in time to come.

Injuries can be a tough test of patience and resilience, but Alycia has shown remarkable strength throughout her recovery journey. With the splint and bandage now off, we are hopeful for continued progress. The next couple of weeks are crucial, and we will be there every step of the way to support Alycia. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery and no need for physiotherapy.

Family-Friendly Weddings: What to Consider

Planning a wedding can be stressful enough without having to accommodate the needs of children and extended family members. However, with some thoughtful planning and preparation, you can create a wedding celebration that is enjoyable for guests of all ages. Here are some tips for putting together a family-friendly wedding that will be memorable for everyone involved.

  1. Choosing Activities for Kids

When kids are part of the guest list, it’s important to have activities planned to keep them engaged and entertained throughout the day. Set up a supervised kids’ area with crafts and games, and even hire a professional babysitter or two to oversee activities. Have toys on hand like colouring books and board games so kids can have fun while parents mingle and dance. Consider scheduling dedicated times for kids’ activities like face painting or lawn games before the ceremony or during cocktail hour.

  1. Providing Guest Accommodation

If you’ll have lots of out-of-town guests, especially those travelling with children, arrange for affordable local accommodations like discounted hotel blocks, rental homes, or campgrounds. This gives families more flexibility and convenience as they won’t have to worry about driving long distances late at night after the reception ends. Provide guests with a list of family-friendly restaurants, parks, museums, and other attractions in the area they can enjoy as well.

  1. Choosing the Right Menu

Cater your reception menu to appeal to all ages and tastes. Include kid-friendly fare like chicken fingers, mac and cheese, and fresh fruit. You can even add a separate kids’ buffet table if you want. For adult guests, offer selections like steak, salmon, pasta, and hearty sides. And don’t forget dessert—cupcakes and ice cream sundaes are always crowd-pleasers! Having options ensures every guest can find something appealing.

  1. Picking the Perfect Venue

When kids and extended family are involved, you’ll likely need more space than for an intimate adults-only affair. Consider outdoor or rural venues where kids can run around freely and safely. Barns, farms, parks, and gardens provide beautiful backdrops for family weddings. Shropshire offers a wealth of stunning rural wedding venues perfect for larger gatherings.

Shropshire’s top wedding venue provides fabulous settings to host your family celebration in the countryside. With Shropshire weddings, you can find the ideal venue for your special day. From grand estates to quaint halls, weddings in Shropshire offer spacious outdoor areas for kids and large banquet halls to accommodate your guest list.

  1. Entertainment for All

It’s important to have entertainment and music that appeals to both kids and adults. Consider hiring a magician or caricature artist to delight kids during the cocktail hour. For dancing, opt for a DJ or band that plays hits across multiple decades and genres. You can even get the kids involved by adding classic party games like limbo or karaoke. The key is having a variety of interactive entertainment to keep all guests engaged.

Planning a family-friendly wedding does take some extra forethought and effort. However, choosing the right venue, menu, entertainment, and activities can result in a celebration that delights guests of all ages.
