Crockpot Lid Unveiled

This is what was stewing in the crockpot – abalones. These are not canned abalones but dried abalones and are supposed to cost way more than canned ones. How did my mil cook the abalones? First, she soaked the abalones for a few days in the fridge. Then, she put the abalones into the crockpot and cook them overnight on slow heat for more than 24 hours. When the abalones were tender enough, she removed them from the crockpot and sliced them. She had wanted to cook a sauce for the abalones but since she was busy, we just ate them plain – with no salt or seasoning and they tasted good. But I am not a great fan of abalones, my hubby is.

Alycia 1st Day of School

Yesterday was Alycia’s first day of school after resting for more than 6 months. As expected, she puked after her milk in the morning. This time, I knew instantly that she was actually nervous going to school. When she first woke up in the morning, she pretended to cough. After her milk, she told me that she had tummy ache and acted as if she wanted to puke. Minutes later, she puked in the sink.

My mil and I walked her to school with Sherilyn tagging along as my hubby had to send his car for service. When she was at the school compound, the teachers were surprised to see her back at school. As it was a Monday, the school kids had to sing Negaraku and the school song. When we were about to leave, she was almost in tears as her mah mah was there and she wanted to ‘manja’ her mah mah.
Fast forward to yesterday evening. I told Alycia that she had to do her homework but she gave me a host of excuses like hand pain, very tired, pencil is too big, she needs a plaster for her thumb (which was perfectly fine), etc. I gave her a good lecture and she began to put in some effort and concentration.

Hopefully, Alycia will get used to going to school and having to do homework and I certainly hope that she can pick up from where she left behind. Most of her classmates are way ahead of her. Most importantly, I hope Alycia’s immune system has strengthened and will not fall sick so easily.

Sherilyn, my little social butterfly on the other hand was so excited being at the school. She was happily mingling with the teachers and as we walked her back home, she kept saying she wanted to go to school. Up until today, she kept saying that she wants to go to school. This morning, when she saw daddy bringing Alycia to school, she wept for a good 1 hour as she wanted to follow too. To stop her from wailing, I had to bring her for a short stroll to the sundry shop to buy some eggs. When she came home, Sherilyn was in a bad mood the whole morning and kept asking where Alycia is.

Blogger Problem or My Computer Problem?

Remember I wrote a post about me encountering some problems with my blog? I have deleted some files from my C drive, as advised by Cherry and also performed a disk defragmentation. However, the problem still persisted. Each time I clicked on my blog to perform a task, eg. clicked on a link to another website, clicked on the perma link, clicked to edit post, clicked to create new post, etc., it would take at least 3 minutes for my computer to process the task. In addition, a message which states “Stack overflow at line : 63” or “Out of memory in line : 56” would apprear. Most times, my blog will just ‘hang’ and I would have to close it a few times and log into Blogger again. However, if I perform a task or even a few tasks within half a minute of logging in to my blog, my computer will have no problems processing the tasks. Once the half minute is up, my blog will hang and the error message would appear. I have no problems logging in to other websites. This is really driving me nuts. So much time is wasted everyday.

I’m not going to write to Blogger Help Desk for support coz it’s useless. I’d in the past written to them a couple of times but never got a reply.

Can someone please help me solve my problem, pretty please?

Watching TV

Each night before I have a quick scrub in the bathroom attached to our room, I’ll put on a DVD for the gals to watch. Watching tv is the only time my gals will sit still or lie still. I know the box is not a good thing for kids but with my gals, it’s only when the tv is switched on that they will not jump, run, hop, climb and touch forbidden items. I used to lock Sherilyn up in her cot but now, she can climb out from her cot. So I let her stay on my bed with Alycia. It’s only when the gals watch tv that I can take my bath in peace, else I would hear screams and fights, bangs and thuds and my heart will palpitate as I bathe in fear.

Washable Magic Color

These are the washable ELC magic color chunkie pens that my sil bought the gals from Hong Kong recently. The ink comes off super easily when wiped with wet wipes and does not leave any stains behind. Yesterday, the gals were drawing with these magic color pens and they stained their hands and table. I used wet wipes to remove the stains from their hands and table and I was so glad that the stains could come off very easily. No scrubbing was needed.

The magic color stains on the table.

Just use a piece of wet wipes to wipe off the stains.

The stains came out easily when wiped with wet wipes. Notice how clean and shiny the table is after I’d wiped it with the wet wipes.

What’s Stewing Inside The Crockpot?

Would anyone like to guess what’s stewing inside this crockpot? Hint – they’re something rare from the deep ocean, they are very costly and can only be eaten in certain restaurants. Some people like them cooked with soup while some people like them stewed and eaten like a piece of steak. If you still have no clue what they are, scroll up and read on.

Alycia Going Back To Pre-School

After a 6-month break for Alycia, I have decided to send her back to pre-school tomorrow. She has not fallen sick for more than 1 month now and praying hard that her immune system is stronger now, I hope she will love going to school again and will not fall sick so easily. Going back to school will mean going to bed early, no more playing till almost midnight, waking up at 7:45am, doing homework, having to attend extra Mandarin classes twice a week and more work for me. I will have less computer time in the morning as I have to prepare Alycia’s lunch-box and get her ready for school. I also have to coach her in her homework in the afternoon. I just hope everything will fall neatly and smoothly into place tomorrow and that Alycia will not puke in the morning after her milk. For the first few days when Alycia started pre-school, she puked each morning after her milk. Maybe she wasn’t used to waking up early and maybe she felt a little stressed up having to go to school but I hope that now, Alycia would have outgrown this and will have no problem waking up early and getting ready for school.

Placating A Whining Child

This afternoon just before nap time, Alycia was acting up and was whining away. I tried to placate her by reading a story book to her but that did not stop her from whining. Suddenly, I choked on my own saliva and kept coughing. As Alycia was still whining away in my ear, I pretended to ‘choke myself to death’ and after coughing for a moment, I ‘lay motionless’ on the mattress. Alycia was shocked to see mummy ‘lying motionless’ on the mattress and she stopped whining. As she called out “mummy, mummy, mummy….” and on the verge of tears, she took her bolster and hit my face, as if trying to wake me up. She then slapped my face gently and tried to force open my eyes. When I couldn’t hold it anymore, I burst out laughing and gave her a big hug. Alycia too began to laugh and soon, she had forgotten all about what she was whining about and gladly went to nap.

Shanghainese Mooncakes

There are the Shanghainese mooncakes that hubby’s aunty made. They are by far one of the tastiest mooncakes I have eaten as they are not too sweet and she blends and cooks the lotus seeds herself to make as fillings for the mooncakes. The crust is a little crunchy and fragrant too. Though I fancy them but I dare not indulge in them too much as they are a high carbo food, thus really good in pushing my weight up.

Packet Unveiled

Looks like only Hui Sia half guessed it right what was inside the packet. This is what I ate for breakfast a couple of days ago – fried vegetarian meehoon with santan-free chicken breast curry. I’ve not eaten this sort of food for breakfast for ages and it certainly felt good eating them after such a long time. And this packet of delicious food only cost RM1.80. What a nice change for breakfast instead of eating fruits, milk and egg for breakfast every single day.

How We Spent Our Merdeka Day

We went to Mid Valley Megamall at around 11am today and as it was a public holiday, the traffic was pretty horrendous. There were oceans of people and a human traffic jam at Mid Valley. We wanted to have lunch at Dragon-I but the queue was crazy. We then retreated and went to American Chillis instead. We ordered 2 mugs of brocolli & cheese soup, an Oldtimer’s burger, a spaghetti and a Fajitas combo comprising chicken and beef. With 2 main meals, we got 2 kids’ meal FOC. After lunch, we went windown shopping and I went into a newly opened Crocs boutique. I saw the Crocs shoes that my sil bought Alycia and Sherilyn from Hong Kong and they cost RM129 each. I saw a Crocs sandals that I really love that came in 3 colors, i.e. lime green & white, pink & white and baby blue & white. I looked great on them but when I saw the price tag, I put the sandals back. At RM169 for a pair of plastic sandals, I can get almost 4 pairs of cheaper shoes from Vincci. Well, if I were still working, I’d have bought the Crocs sandals without any second thoughts. After that, we headed to Jaya Jusco supermarket and bought a trolley load of groceries. The human traffic jam was a real turn off and we left Mid Valley in no time. I tend to have a phobia shopping with my 2 beautiful gals at a crowded place, for fear of my gals being kidnapped.

Back home, after putting the gals to nap, my mil and hubby went to the pasar malam and bought our weekly supply of vegetables, fish and fruits. My mil also bought our favorite ‘lok lok’ (steamboat) and of course durians! I ate so much lok lok that I am now so bloated. Luckily we are having something light for dinner – porridge. And guess what porridge we are having? It’s porridge with dried scallops, dried oysters, chicken and a can of Australian abalones. Sounds yummy eh?

Merdeka!

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! These were the words I heard from a group of primary school kids chanting outside my house whilst we were having breakfast at around 9am yesterday morning. The troop of students, all dressed up in national costumes together with their teachers from a nearby school were marching round the neighbourhood holding flags and banners. There was even a police car accompanying the troop. What a thoughtful act of patriotism shown by the school.

To all Malaysians out there, happy 50th hari kemerdekaan (independence day) to us!
