Celebration of Half A Decade Young

Wednesday, 29 March 2023

Congratulations to myself on reaching the milestone of being half a decade young! This is certainly an occasion worth celebrating and reflecting upon.

Turning fifty marks the end of one era and the beginning of another. It’s truly a significant moment in my life. I think I have gained a great deal of wisdom and experience over the course of my life thus far.

For the next few decades to come, I hope I can start to travel, take up a new hobby (yoga, here I come!) and eat an even healthier diet. Without having to cook for the girls that often, I can start to cook my kind of simple and healthy meals, which would be a lot of one-pot meals and steamed veggies kind of meal.

The moment the littlest brat turns 18, I will let go of her even more. Being the youngest and born with some health issues which are still unresolved, I’ve not been able to let go of her like how I’d to, like how I’d let go of Alycia and Sherilyn when they were Cass’ age years ago.

Turning 50 is just a number. I still have many years ahead of me to make the most of my life and pursue my dreams. On my 50th birthday, I took some time to celebrate this milestone with my loved ones and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.

Alycia and Sherilyn treated me to a sumptuous lunch at Red Kettle, my favorite fusion restaurant. Too bad Cass couldn’t join us as she was in school.

Oyster blade steak @ RM69.90 for the gourmand hubs.
Grilled chicken salad @ RM29.90.
Chicken Bakar N Rice @ RM29.90 for me.
Tomato Fregola seafood soup @ RM33.90 for Sherilyn
Aglio Olio @ RM22.90 for the mil.
Cajun prawn pork burger @ RM30.90 for Alycia.
Takeaway sourdough bread (Sherilyn, Cass and I love sourdough) and best-in-the-world Portugese egg tarts from Red Kettle. The chocolate tart and orange cake were from another cafe.

I only realized after the pix were taken that my Uniqlo floral bra dress matches the 3D flower jelly cake so perfectly 😁

3D flower jelly cake from hubby baked by DoneByMeJelly He also gave me an ang pow.
Very delicious jelly cake made using coconut milk and jelly.

Two days later, I received a surprise bouquet of flowers!

And I wondered who it was from. I knew it would not be from the hubs.
It was from my bestie, Josephine who lives tens of thousands of miles away from me, in another continent. I was touched beyond words. It’s this level of thoughtfulness that really makes a gift special and our 40 years of friendship even more precious. Jo and I used to live in the same neighborhood in Ipoh, we were classmates for many years and now we’re living in different countries but still keep in touch and meet up whenever she’s back from the US.
Cass made this simple card for me and it says “Momther, you’re half way THERE”
Where is ‘there’, I asked her. There la, heaven’s door. True that 🤪. Cheeky girl.

Leslie Cheung’s 20th Death Anniversary – Will You Remember Me Flash Mob @ Pavillion Bukit Jalil

Sherilyn was one of the dancers of a flash mob dance organized by Universal Music Hong Kong and held at Pavillion Bukit Jalil on Saturday, 25 March 2023. The event was to commemorate the passing of Leslie Cheung 20 years ago on 1 April 2003. Her dance studio, 1119 Dance Studio/1119 Entertainment, was engaged to provide dancers for the flash mob.

The dancers boogied to Leslie’s most popular hits donned in retro clothes of Leslie Cheung’s era/’80s. Sherilyn appeared in the song “Thanksx4 Monica”.

I was there to watch the flash mob and to give moral support to my dancer, while Cass was at the skating rink for figure skating practice. I just couldn’t stop singing along to the song “Thanksx4 Monica” during the flash mob. This song reminds me of my carefree and happy teenage years in the mid 1980s. My elder brother would jam to this song day and night on his mini compo. Leslie’s suicide came as a big shocker to me and to the entire world. He was one of my favorite TVB ‘leng jai’ actors and singers. My friends and I used to swoon over him.

Can you spot Sherilyn? She’s with a bandana and in white attire with a yellow singlet over.
You should be able to spot Sherilyn in this photo.

Here’s the video of the flash mob on You Tube. To all the fans of Leslie Cheung, enjoy the dance and songs 💓

My Life In Photos This Week – Glorious Food

Another week whizzed past us ever so quickly. The days seem to pass by even quicker when one is busy.

Maria our part-time maid has not come to work for more than a week. Initially I thought that she again gave her priority to other employers who are offering her higher wages. But today I realized that she may be really sick, as what she’s been telling me. Lately, Maria has not been very forthright with me and we are even doubting her integrity. I am even suspecting that Maria may be down with Covid. She told me that she’d done a swab test last Saturday but it was negative. But she’s still unwell. I told her to test herself again tomorrow. With assignments from my boss and without any helper at home, I have been swamped with work.

Fortunately we have been getting ample food from hubby’s kitchen everyday as he has several catering events this week. This means that we don’t have to cook, bliss!

We got these on Tuesday – chicken and beef satay with satay sauce, chicken rendang and broccoli with mushrooms.
Mee Siam and chicken soup noodles (photo not taken) on Wednesday.

Assorted tartlets and kuih on Wednesday.

As we are all small eaters, the food was enough to last us until Friday (today). We only needed to add a green vegetable dish every day.

On Sunday, we had lunch at Koyaku Japanese Dining & Grill. As usual, Cass was at the skating rink for her figure skating class and didn’t join us. Sherilyn finally joined us for lunch again as she’s finished her SPM exam and is now as free as a bird, well, at least for a couple of weeks before she works part-time again at Front Room Cafe.

Sherilyn has a paid engagement tomorrow for a dance flash mob at Pavillion Bukit Jalil. It’s an event to commemorate the passing of Leslie Cheung on 1 April 2003, the legendary Hong Kong singer who committed suicide (he leapt off the 24th floor of a hotel in HK) and shocked the entire world. The organizer from Hong Kong will be present at the event. According to Sherilyn, the dance video will be screened in Hong Kong (TVB), China, and other countries. So if you want to catch Sherilyn dancing, head over to Pavillion Bukit Jalil tomorrow afternoon (2 pm and 4.45 pm)!

4 Spring Cleaning Tips for Any Time of the Year

As a busy mom, whether you work from home or split your time between the professional setting of the office and your house, it is understandable if you sometimes feel as if you are always putting out fires rather than making choices. Cleaning is clearly at the bottom of your list of priorities, but our environment can make a big difference to our mood and attitude. So, to combat this feeling and help you feel more in control, here are four spring cleaning tips for any time of the year.

  1. Clean from Top to Bottom

In most family homes, the downstairs rooms tend to become messier and untidier than the top, due to the communal nature of their key functions. However, one of the most important things to remember when cleaning is to always work from top to bottom.

This approach is far more logical and prevents the need for you to re-clean any of the rooms downstairs due to the dust and debris being pushed downwards.

  1. Guard Against Potential Allergies

Even though allergies such as hay fever are far more common in the spring and summer months, and whether you are aware of a specific allergy or not, it is always safer to spring clean wearing gloves, and for more security, a face mask too.

If you intend to use one of the many brands of heavy-duty cleaning products, make sure you read the label and, obviously, store such toxic substances during the cleaning process far away from any curious little fingers.

Furthermore, an even better idea would be to either invest in or hire a steam cleaner, which is the greenest possible product to use for cleaning and provides the following benefits:

  • Steam mops not only clean the floor but sanitize it too
  • Steam cleaners can be used on tiles, appliances, countertops and the oven
  • Steam cleaners only use water, it is heated to around 100 degrees to produce steam
  • Steam cleaners make for a more environmentally friendly home

  1. Do Your Future Self a Favor!

Even if you are one of those people who thoroughly enjoy spring cleaning and love nothing more than organizing your M&Ms into groups of different colors before eating them, there really is no point in creating more complicated tasks than they need to be.

For example, next time you are ready to invest in a new piece of furniture, look for durable, easy to maintain yet incredibly stylish and fashion-forward pieces from innovative designers, such as ligne roset Hampsted

  1. Don’t Avoid the Kitchen!

Finally, it is universally agreed upon that the two rooms in any home that are more difficult to spring clean than the others are the kitchen and bathroom. It is important, for hygiene reasons, if nothing else, to never neglect the former.

Go through your cupboards, pantry, refrigerator, and freezer, and throw away any expired produce before thoroughly cleaning the inside of each unit. Remember to spray and wipe down the exterior doors of your cabinets too, and to use gentle cleaners on more fragile surfaces such as the hob of your oven.

Ipoh Trip (13 – 15 March 2023)

I’ve not had a chance to celebrate my birthday with my parents for the last few years because of the darn pandemic. This year the timing was right – It was Sherilyn’s last day of SPM and Cass still had a few more days of school holidays, so I booked two train tix and hopped onto the ETS for a short stay in Ipoh.

I’d wanted to visit my mum when she had a bad fall in early January this year and fractured her right arm. But I was unable to make a trip back to Ipoh as school had just reopened and Sherilyn had an important government exam to sit.

Cass told me that for this trip to Ipoh, she wanted to do the touristy thingy at the Concubine Lane vicinity. She wanted to visit the Harry Potter Cafe again (the last time we went for just before the lockdown in February 2020), Book Xcess and see all the wall murals in that vicinity. I was reluctant as the weather had been burning hot lately but I gave in to her request anyway.

I’ll let the photos do the talking here:

We started off with tucking into our favorite ‘kai si hor fun’ at the famous Thean Chun coffee shop. This is the best-in-the-world ‘kai si hor fun’ with a taste like no other and the super fresh, fat and juicy Ipoh bean sprouts. I also ordered some fish balls, meat balls and fried turnip cake.

Yummy bowl of piping hot ‘kai si hor fun’ in rich and flavorful orangy broth.
Luckily we got a table almost immediately when we arrived. Within minutes, people started to stream into the crowded coffee shop.

We passed by this quaint little coconut shake shop and I ordered a cup of cold and refreshing coconut shake to cool down after walking under the scorching sun.
Iced coconut shake from Baby Coco. So so good!

We’d passed by Lam Fong Biscuit many times in the past but never bought anything from the shop. This time, since we were doing the touristy thingy, I walked in and got some snacks.
Bags and bags of famous Ipoh peanut candies on the floor. I ate so much of these years ago till I needed a long break from them and now they don’t appeal to me anymore. They were only available in Ipoh back in the day and now they’re available in KL, as well as from Lazada and Shopee.
I bought a jar of lime and honey concentrate. I like mixing a spoonful of it with apple cider vinegar.
Baker making famous Ipoh pastries.
Delicious assorted famous Ipoh pastries and biscuits. I was very tempted to buy some to bring back to KL but the girls don’t really fancy them. I always end up giving them to Maria.
The famous Lam Fong Biscuit shop. They’re also available online on Shopee and Lazada.
We passed by this tattoo bar and stopped to have a look. Have I told you that it’s been my dream to have a tattoo inked on my arm or leg? 🤭 But I have low pain threshold, thus always chicken out. And I always choose the kiddie way – patching tattoo stickers on my arm.

At Concubine Lane.
Gorgeous pastries at Chloe.Co yelling out to us.
Cass was intrigued by the revolving door at Chloe.Co

I ordered a matcha canelé and matcha biscuit.

I love canelés. They’re quite challenging to make, requiring patience, practice, attentiveness, and perseverance.

Cass’ goal was to check out all the wall murals in the vicinity of Concubine Lane area @ Ipoh Old Town. But I was not allowed to photograph her nor to post in on social media  🙄
Since I wasn’t allowed to take pix of Cass, we had reversed role. She took pix of me instead. Cass is a good photographer – just one take and she managed to capture me in the air.
I was born and bred in Ipoh but doing the silly touristy thingy in my own hometown.
Cass loved this alley with long tree fringes hanging.
Me doing another silly touristy pose.

And another one…
We walked round and round the vicinity but couldn’t find Book Xcess. Suddenly I remembered my good friend, Barb wrote about this on Facebook a few years ago and I told my stubborn girl that the book store is just next to Thean Chun and there wasn’t any necessity to use GPS. This silly girl didn’t listen to me and used GPS and the silly GPS brought us walking a few thousand steps to God Knows Where.
Book Xcess Ipoh is housed in a shop house that was previously a bank (United Asian Bank Bhd). The books are creatively placed on Safe Deposit Boxes inside a vault.
These metal filing cabinets look all too familiar. The label here is dated 20 November 1982 – I was in Standard 3 that year.
My loot from Lam Fong Biscuit shop. This is the limit that I could lug back by train to KL. I didn’t want to carry too much weight and reactivate the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome pain on my right hand.

Fun Online Games For People With Early-Stage Dementia

Dementia is the impaired ability to remember, think, or make decisions that interfere with carrying out daily activities. Dementia mostly affects older adults but it is not a part of normal aging.

Dementia not only affects the elderly but it can also affect people in their 50s, 40s, and even in their 30s. This is sometimes referred to as early-onset of dementia and is similar to other types of dementia in many ways.

There are some preventive measures that you can take to lower your risk of developing dementia, or at least slow it down. As some causes are beyond your control, you cannot totally prevent dementia.

Studies in recent years have found a connection between reduced risk of dementia and video games. However, the exact role of brain games in preventing dementia is still unknown and deeper research is required to determine just how helpful these games can be.  Some studies have proven that it can help aspects of memory and thinking.

Even if we are not certain whether games can help with dementia, we do know that they’re a fun way to keep the brain active, and entertained at any age. When you’re in your sunset years where life has slowed down considerably, what better way to kill time than to spend several hours a day playing some engaging computer games while keeping your mind active?

People battling dementia can still enjoy many activities and lead fulfilling lives.  Caretakers of people living with dementia can encourage them to keep their brains active with activities that will help with cognitive ability.  Some of the brain-stimulating games are crossword puzzles, sudoku, and a plethora of computer games from the internet.

When I have some free time, I will search the internet for some fun online games, just to take my mind off the stressors of life. Just 15-20 minutes of focusing my mind on such games can be refreshing and resets my button, while keeping my brain active. One of my favorite games of all times are number games. I like solving Math questions without using the calculator, like this online Cash Back game. There are 3 levels of difficulty and I always choose the hardest level without any tips given to push my brain to work harder to solve the questions 😬 . Other online games that are fun, not very difficult yet brain-stimulating are Hidden Food and BBQ Roast. Not only do these games help the brain to stay agile, but the fingers too.

Hopefully with such occasional ‘brain boot camp workout games’, my brain power will remain superior when I’m living my sunset years.

Online Cashback game that’s both mentally stimulating and improves my Math speed.

One is spoilt for choices with free brain-training online games and puzzles, so have a look for something that matches the person’s interests and ability from app stores and websites. It may seem a tad silly, but online games can be an easy and entertaining way to ensure you or your loved ones are keeping mental wellness a priority.

Ipoh Trip (13 – 15 March 2023)

Day 1 – Monday, 13 March 2023

Our usual pre-Ipoh-trip SOP since the pandemic. A test to make sure that we don’t bring the Virus back to my elderly parents. I always prefer the nasal swab as it’s so much easier and faster to collect the sample.

My trip to Ipoh to visit my parents was only confirmed on Saturday, which was pretty last minute. Luckily there were still tickets available on the KTM booking app. But we were seated separately (separated by the aisle), though Cass was just on my right side.

Too bad Sherilyn couldn’t follow us back this time as she still had one last paper (Add Math) to sit for on Monday.

I was hoping that I won’t be seated next to a burly man but just as luck would have it, a very big burly man came and sat next to me. I politely asked if he could swap seats with my daughter but he said no. Fine.

The moment he sat down, my left hip was squashed by his right hip 🙄 even though I was already inching away towards my right to avoid us touching. The train seats are not separated by any arm rest. I wondered if he felt embarrassed because I was. I got up and adjusted my butt on the seat again, to be further away from him. Throughout the ride, Mr Burly had loud labored breathing and I felt even more awkward, like why TF is he breathing so heavily and loudly 😅 . At one point I dozed off and I was jolted up when I felt like my head almost touched his shoulder. I tried so hard not to doze off again in case my head really touched / rested on his shoulder 🤪

Finally when the passenger next to Cass alighted at a station somewhere in Perak, I quickly moved over to sit next to her.

Bored to death on the train.
Our very late lunch at Woolley Family Food Court at Lengkok Canning. This food court has been around for over 40 years. It’s my favorite food court since my teenage days. We had popiah, peanut + dried oyster porridge, Wan Tau Long or Aiyu jelly (jelly on a bed of shaved ice with lime juice) and Ice Kacang.
Some 3 hours later, we had dinner at Choy Kee Seafood Restaurant @ Ipoh Garden. Papa ordered all our favorite dishes — braised Garoupa fish with bitter gourd and fermented beans, stir-fried yau mak, salted egg yolk French beans and stir-fried Koong Po eel.

Haru’s 3rd Year

Last Saturday we brought Haru to the vet for her yearly jab. It’s her third jab. She will turn 3 at the end of 2023.

Sherilyn put the kitty in her canvas tote bag and as usual, this scaredy-cat was so terrified of the sound of the car engine in the 5-minute car ride that she peed in the bag 😹

Haru in Sherilyn’s bag before the car ride.
Look at that face 😹
I’m obsessed with the polka dots on Haru’s belly. I love the ‘necklace’ on her neck too, as well as those tiger stripes on her hands.

I’m going to be away for 3 days from tomorrow until Wednesday. I’ll be taking the ETS with Cass to Ipoh to visit my parents. I’m so going to miss my sweet girl and will worry a lot about her when I’m away. This little cheeky fella loves to wander off to the kitchen balcony whenever someone opens the glass sliding door and forgets to close it. Or she will sneak out of the house when the door is left open. I’m going to miss her more than I miss my human daughters 😬

Glitter Metallic Prom Dresses

Prom night and graduation mark the end of high school. Prom night is one of the most important highlights in high school. It is often the last time the whole class gets together to have some fun before graduation. Girls usually dress up to the nines in floor length gowns and high heels while the boys are required to wear either suits or tuxedoes.   Choosing the right prom dress is very important for a girl as she dreams of looking her best on this much awaited night.

Resplendent Metallic Glitter Formal Party Prom Dress With Beaded Waist

Prom dresses are by far one of the most important elements when it comes to preparing for a girl’s prom night.  Every year fashion gurus predict what styles and colors will be trending in the upcoming season. As we look ahead to proms in 2023, we can expect to see colors in metallic glitter hues.  These stunning hues will make any prom dress stand out from the crowd, perfect for a show-stopping entrance.

Sweetheart Metallic Glitter A Line Off- Shoulders Prom Dresses in glitter red

A prom night is a girl’s long-awaited night to shine, and this can be achieved with the wave of glittery and iridescent fabrics coming to market. Nothing says glamour like a glitter metallic prom dress.  Long gone are the days when fake rhinestones did that bling. Today, prom dresses themselves are made of striking eye-catching fabrics that incorporate glitter, and iridescent materials that can give you a little bit of a mermaid feel without the body-hugging silhouette.

Scoop Neckline With Adjustable Criss-Cross Back Long Prom Dresses in classy glitter silver

Glitter metallic prom dresses have been in vogue for a few seasons already, but they are coming back strong for another year and likely for years to come. These dresses with shimmery and stunning iridescent finishes are really glamorous and heavily influenced by the Hollywood red carpet style. A girl in a shimmery metallic floor-length prom dress is going to steal the limelight.

Long Scoop A-Line Formal Party Prom Dress with a bold criss-cross open back and pockets. The pockets will come in handy for putting your mobile phone or lipstick.

Statement-making colors like bright blues, reds, and purples in metallic glitter fabrics will be popular choices for those wishing to stand out from the crowd. Asymmetrical cuts, off-shoulders, and flowy long skirts can create an eye-catching effect on any dress. Accessories such as chunky jewelry or delicate headpieces can complete your look with a touch of personality.

When you’re wearing a glitter metallic prom dress, choosing the right accessories will help you complete your look. However, you need to be careful when wearing glitter metallic fabrics since they’re so bold and eye-catching all on their own.  With this style, there can be too much of a good thing, thus, wearing low-key accessories can complete your look.  For example, choose a pair of delicate stud earrings instead of a dramatic chandelier-style pair. A simple necklace with a thin chain and small pendant can work well if you have a scoop, strapless, or V-neck style.

Now that you have some ideas on what prom dresses to look for, it’s time to get started. One place to find affordable prom dresses is Yelure.com, an online store that carries a neat range of elegant gowns. Remember to choose a great fit that suits your body and face shape, a beautiful color that brings out the best of your features, and lastly, pick the dress that you feel the best in.

Happy shopping and happy prom night!

Calcium-Score Screening Heart Test (Coronary Calcium Scan) & QRISK Score @ SJMC

Friday, 10 March 2023 ~ Today I did my scheduled Calcium-Score Screening Heart Test (Coronary Calcium CT Scan with ECG) followed by a quick QRISK Score at SJMC.

The entire procedure was pretty quick – about 20 minutes of waiting time for my turn at the Imaging Dept. and 15 minutes in the doughnut-shaped tunnel and I was back to the cardiologist’s office. After another 10 minutes of waiting time and in I went to see him for the review of the scan.

What a stark difference in waiting time at private hospitals vs. government hospitals (HKL). With all of Cass’ diagnostic scans and procedures at HKL, whether inpatient or outpatient, OT procedure or only a chat with the doctor(s), we had to wait for an entire day at the hospital, in a hospital packed like sardines. I kid you not. While in the lifts or at the waiting areas, my shoulders actually touch other patients’ shoulders. There are not enough chairs for everyone to sit and even not enough space for us to stand.

Going to HKL feels like going to a much dreaded boot camp – mentally and physically we are drained out after a day at HKL. But cost wise, I needn’t have to pay a single cent at HKL, most of the time.

With private hospitals, the ambience is like a 5-star hotel, comfortable, clean and waiting time is short. But the price is OH. MY. GOD. And all these diagnostic tests are not claimable from insurance. So is Cass’ medical bills as she has a congenital disorder.

See, in this case, money can make the world go round.🤑

Anyway, coming back to my CT Scan today.

Calcium score = 0

QRISK score = less than 1% of getting a major coronary event within the next 10 years.

And there’s no need to be on statin, yes!!

All is GOOD, praise the Lord 🙏

Cost of damage today is RM937.

My heart did very well in her test with all zeros. But if this were a school exam, I’d be doomed!
In the changing room. Again I wore a long bra dress from Uniqlo, so I needn’t undress completely. I only pulled it down mid way before donning on the gown.
The intimidating-looking doughnut machine. But I wasn’t nervous at all when I was inside the doughnut. It felt like being on an airplane in mid air. I was told to “Breathe in, breathe out, hold your breath, breathe normally” several times by a pre-recorded instruction from the machine. The entire procedure including the nurse strapping ECG electrodes onto my chest area is about 15 minutes.
Our dinner today – pumpkin + roast pork bones porridge. Very yummy comfort food after a cold day at the hospital.

Sunday, 5 March 2023

My Sundays for the past one month has been like this – lunch with hubs and Alycia, just the three of us while Cass attended her figure skating lessons at the skating rink, the mil has her own activities on Sundays and the SPM girl stayed home to study. Our life was pretty much like this about 20 years ago when Alycia was just a baby and there was only the three of us, with a live-in maid. Everywhere that we went, it was just the three of us and the live-in maid.

Now our big baby girl is an adult and will turn 20 in December. But she’s still very much like a little girl in our eyes and still behaves like one 😁.

We first had a light lunch at Dai Cha Dim, a Chinese restaurant that serves a variety of delicious cha-chaan-teng (or Hong Kong style café) delights. Hubs wanted to eat sushi and sashimi but I want Dai Cha Dim (again). So we had lunch at both a Chinese restaurant, and then later at Koi Sushi.

Alycia sipping on watermelon juice.

After lunch at Dai Cha Dim, we went shopping at Uniqlo. Both mom and daughter bought cropped bra tops coz cropped tops are in vogue now.

After shopping at Uniqlo, we had our second round of lunch at Sushi Koi.

Very fresh sashimi – hubs was very pleased and satisfied. He commented that this is even better than the sashimi at Rakuzen.
Chawan Mushi and tamago sushi
Tempura
Delish spider roll sushi (soft shell crabs).
Grilled teriyaki squid.
Someone caught her paparazzi mom stealing a snapshot of her at the skating rink and wasn’t too pleased.
Cass’ coach.

This week will be Cass’ last lesson on a Sunday. Effective next week, her figure skating class will be on a Friday night. It’s going to be a new routine for us, more hectic for Cass when she returns to school with CoCo activities back in full swing this year and a UEC exam to sit for this year. She still wants to compete in figure skating competitions this year but I told her that she’ll have to wait until next year.

Appointment with Cardiologist

Today I met my cardiologist at Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) to let him review my high cholesterol reading related to Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) or genetic high cholesterol.

Before deciding if he should start me on statin, my doctor ordered for me to do a heart scan (coronary calcium scan) using computerized tomography (CT) imaging to take pictures of the heart’s arteries. It can detect calcium deposits in the coronary arteries. Calcium deposits can narrow the arteries and increase the risk of a heart attack. This scan is necessary because of my high cholesterol reading and incidences of random heart flutters for the last few years.

I will have to go back to SJMC this Friday to have the calcium-score screening heart test done.

If the scan shows high calcium deposits, I must start taking a high dose statin everyday.

Even with a healthy diet and regular exercise, things like this still happens. Darn the bad genes. With Familial hypercholesterolemia, no matter how hard I watch what I eat or even starve myself to the brink of death, my cholesterol level will still be high. This is caused by some mutated genes. It will go even higher if I eat as I please and binge on red meats, butter, ice cream and other high cholesterol foods.

Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) can be caused by inherited changes (mutations) in the LDLR, APOB, and PCSK9 genes, which affect how your body regulates and removes cholesterol from your blood. About 60-80% of people with FH have a mutation found in one of these three genes.

The CT scan is going to cost at least a thousand bucks. I pray that I don’t have calcium deposits in my heart arteries as I’m trying to avoid statins. My mum had aches and pains all over her body while taking statin and the same goes with the hubs. Mum recently stopped taking her statin and those aches and pains stopped too.

The accumulated costs spent on self-care tests and scans from February to March this year alone is at least RM2k. This amount includes an annual pap smear, ultrasound scans of my breasts and pelvic, a complete blood work, a 3D mammogram at Sunway Medical Centre and the upcoming CT scan at SJMC. I hope it will stop here with no further tests and medication required 🙏

Me waiting outside the consultant cardiologist’s office at SJMC today and it was freezing cold.

Very Wet & Chilly Weather In KL

The weather has been very chilly, windy and wet. It’s been raining non-stop in KL and in other states for almost 3 days now. It’s so cold that I don’t even need to turn on the air-cond or fan at night.

Besides getting to enjoy a cool weather for the past few days, the wet days have been very unkind to my laundry. As you may already know, I wash 5-6 loads of laundry each day 🤪. Alycia and the mil swims on alternate days while Cass, hubs and I workout and have sweaty clothes every day. And we wash our jammies and towels daily too  😜. Thus I am always busy with dirty laundry.

With the continuous rain and a kerflooey clothes dryer (the door hinge cracked and fell off), our dried laundry for the past few days feel cold and slightly damp, even though they are dried. I hang most of the clothes indoor, under the ceiling fan or next to a stand fan. I can’t wait for the sun to come out and scorch down on us again! I need the sunlight badly for my daily dose of Vitamin D when I do my daily jog.

With the mil still in Penang, an SPM girl who’s excused from cooking and the littlest brat who hates washing dirty dishes, I’ve only been cooking lazy meals, using the air fryer and oven. Today we had air fried marinated chicken drummets and blanched bok choy.

Yesterday we had air fried salmon and blanched French beans. Really simple meals whomped up by a really lazy and busy mom who finds cooking and washing dishes a chore and a waste of time.

Ok, Shopee Food, here I come tomorrow!!

Air fried salmon with crispy skin is really yummeh!
I 💗  my air fryer.
