The 10th-anniversary edition of the Good Vibes Music Fest in Sepang, slated to be a memorable three-day extravaganza of music, art, and camaraderie, took an unfortunate turn on the first day, leaving thousands of fans, including Sherilyn, utterly disappointed. The festival, which had already seen some amazing performances, was abruptly canceled by the organizers due to an expletive-riddled tirade by Matty Healy, lead singer of the band group 1975, against Malaysia’s anti-LGBT laws. Adding to the controversy was a deep, provocative mouth-to-mouth kiss between Matty and bassist Ross MacDonald on stage.

For Sherilyn and thousands of concertgoers, the Good Vibes Music Fest was an eagerly anticipated event, an opportunity to revel in the sounds of their favorite artists and experience the camaraderie of fellow music enthusiasts. This intimate gesture was meant to be a symbol of love transcending boundaries, but it ignited further controversy and divided opinions among the audience.

Matty is no stranger to causing some controversary while on tour. He had done a similar act while performing in Dubai where he kissed a male fan on stage. At one of his bizarre concerts with crazy stage antics, he chewed on a huge slab of raw steak.

As news of the incident spread like wildfire, the Malaysian government felt compelled to intervene and made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining days of the Good Vibes Music Fest. Concerns were raised about the potential impact on public order and the festival’s adherence to local laws and cultural norms. Random Updates: A Week in Our Lives

Cass received wonderful news this week. With hard work and determination, she secured the 5th position in her class, showcasing an improvement from her previous exam. As parents, I couldn’t be prouder of her commitment to her studies. I know she has the potential to achieve even greater heights, and will continue to support her every step of the way.

Next Saturday brings another significant event as I attend Cass’s high school Parents’ Day. This occasion provides the opportunity to collect her report card and meet her class teacher. It will be my first time meeting her teacher and collecting her report card as the previous two years were conducted online.

Meanwhile, Sherilyn, embarked on an exciting adventure from today to the weekend as she has gone to the Good Vibes Music Festival at Sepang International Circuit. It’s a 3-day music festival filled with good vibes. There will be almost 50 artists in the lineup, among them are Sabrina Carpenter, Lullaboy, Jake Scott, Goldfish, and many more.

Surrounded by music, dance, and thousands of attendees, Sherilyn is bound to create unforgettable memories with her dance mates and friends. However, with the open-air venue, exposure to the elements is inevitable. To prepare, Sherilyn purchased a raincoat and a power bank, ensuring she remains comfortable and connected throughout the three-day festival.

While it’s tempting to stay until the end, her dad and I encouraged her to return a day earlier, prioritizing her well-being and safety. I will be constantly worried about her in such a huge event. Memories of the stampede that occurred during the Halloween festivities in Seoul last year still send shivers down my spine. At least 159 people were killed and 196 others were injured in the stampede. Sherilyn’s dad has more morbid thoughts than me and I shall not elaborate further here 😛

In the midst of my girls’ adventures and achievements, I embrace the joys of mundane life as a housewife. The heartwarming presence of my beloved pet cat, Haru, adds immeasurable joy and companionship to my days.

Sherilyn’s Battle with Hives Caused By An Allergic Reaction

Allergies can manifest in various ways, sometimes catching us off guard and causing significant discomfort. Last Wednesday, Sherilyn had a harrowing experience with hives, triggered by an allergic reaction. And this happened just two months after my hives attack.

That evening, Sherilyn returned home from her part-time work at a café and had dinner before heading to her dance class. Little did we know that this routine evening would take an unexpected turn. Sherilyn’s dinner consisted of rice with chili prawns and Ayam Kuzi, a delightful meal she had enjoyed before without any issues. However, on her way to the dance class, she began experiencing itchy hives on her limbs, signaling an allergic reaction.

Sherilyn would occasionally get itchy lips after eating prawns but this allergic reaction does not happen all the time after eating prawns. It’s a hit-and-miss kind of allergy, so we cannot really say that she has an allergy to prawns. But we suspect that she may be allergic to the chemicals used in farmed prawns.

By the time Sherilyn’s dance class concluded around 10 pm, the hives had intensified, spreading to her hands, legs, and back, accompanied by severe itching. Alarmed by her discomfort, her dad rushed her to the Accident and Emergency department of the hospital for immediate medical assistance. Sherilyn’s condition worsened as she also experienced slight difficulty talking and body spasms.

At the A&E, the medical officer administered steroid injections to alleviate the itching and rash. Concerned about Sherilyn’s well-being, the attending medical officer recommended hospitalization for monitoring purposes. The next morning, a physician was assigned to care for Sherilyn. He recommended that Sherilyn stayed in the hospital for another night. However, as her symptoms improved, and with the hospital conveniently located just minutes away from our home, I asked the attending physician if it was OK to discharge Sherilyn. The doctor agreed, emphasizing our responsibility for her continued care at home, and stated that should any untoward incidences happen to Sherilyn at home, the doctor and the hospital would not be held accountable. I agreed.

From the time Sherilyn arrived at the hospital at night to the time she was discharged the next day, she received three steroid injections and was put on a drip to ensure hydration.

Lunch was… meh. Sweet and sour Kembong fish and stir-fried kangkung with chili. And the banana was only half ripened 😒.

Although Sherilyn had experienced occasional itchy lips after eating prawns in the past, this severe reaction was unexpected. Allergies can be unpredictable, and even familiar foods can trigger adverse reactions later in life. You can randomly develop food allergies as an adult.

To manage her condition after her discharge from the hospital, Sherilyn was prescribed oral steroid pills, which she had to take six pills once a day for a week. Additionally, she was given two types of antihistamines – one that causes drowsiness and another that does not. As a precautionary measure, she also has to take an anti-gastric pill to counteract any potential gastric side effects from the steroid medication.

The unexpected hospital stay resulted in a substantial bill of nearly three thousand Ringgit. We hope that Sherilyn’s insurance coverage will help alleviate this financial burden, although claim approvals are subject to their policies and terms.

Reflections on the Fragility of Life ~ Remembering Two Friends

Life has an uncanny ability to throw unexpected curveballs our way, reminding us of its fragility and unpredictability. Over the past month, I was confronted with this truth when I learned of the untimely passing of two friends. Their deaths served as a poignant reminder to cherish each day and embrace life with no regrets.

The first friend who passed on is the father of Sherilyn’s good friend from kindergarten and primary school. Sherilyn used to hang out at this friend’s house quite frequently when they were in primary school. Sherilyn sometimes had dinner together with her friend and her family. Recently Sherilyn discovered from another friend that the father of her close friend had passed away unexpectedly due to a freak accident at work. The friend’s father is about the same age as me.

The news of his passing sent shockwaves through our hearts, leaving us grappling with the fragility of life. It reminded us that life’s uncertainties can shatter our sense of security in an instant. The pain and loss experienced by the family taught us to cherish the time we have with our loved ones, as we never truly know what tomorrow holds.

The second friend who recently passed on is my neighbor. Within our condo, there was a spirited and vivacious lady who did her morning or evening walks every day, brimming with life and positive energy. Despite her age of 78, she exuded vitality and became a source of inspiration for many. During the lockdowns I often had the pleasure of joining her during our walks, engaging in cheerful conversations that brightened our days.

However, her sudden absence at the condo grounds raised concerns, leading me to inquire about her well-being. Tragically, I discovered today from her daughter that she had succumbed to cancer. It was devastating to learn that this seemingly healthy and vibrant woman had battled both colon and pancreatic cancer within a short span of time. She fought valiantly but, unfortunately, lost her life only eight days after receiving her pancreatic cancer diagnosis. She had Stage II colon cancer last year and the surgery to remove the tumor was a success. Eight months later, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and lost the battle.

Her story served as a stark reminder that life’s challenges can strike unexpectedly, regardless of our apparent health or vitality. It underscored the importance of cherishing our health, being proactive in our well-being, and never taking a single day for granted.

The loss of these two friends has left a profound impact on my perspective of life. Their passing has reinforced the fragile nature of our existence and the urgent need to seize every moment. Life’s uncertainties compel us to live each day to the fullest, nurturing relationships, pursuing our passions, and embracing opportunities with vigor and enthusiasm.

Impromptu Brunch With Hubby

Earlier this week, the hubs and I went on an impromptu brunch together at LDG Patisserie, our favorite neighborhood café. I was heading to his central kitchen to pick up some food when he suggested we enjoy a meal together at the café.

Hubs opted for a generous slice of toasted sourdough bread adorned with two perfectly fried wallet eggs. The combination of the crispy toast, creamy butter, and tangy raspberry jam made for a harmonious medley of flavors. The simplicity and nostalgia of this dish never fail to satisfy his breakfast cravings.

On the recommendation of the cafe owner, I tried the “Eat Your Greens” sourdough plate, a healthy creation for people on a lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet. This vibrant creation consisted of a toasted sourdough slice topped with a luscious spread of butter and an assortment of nutrient-rich ingredients. Mashed edamame beans, peppery arugula, vibrant purple cabbage, cheese and an array of colorful vegetables adorned the plate, offering a tantalizing array of flavors and textures. The dish resonated with my preference for wholesome, fiber-rich meals.

The Ticket Triumph – Someone Snagged Taylor Swift’s Singapore Concert Ticket!

While Alycia didn’t manage to get into the ticketing website to purchase the ticket, her friend’s mom managed to secure the tickets for her own family, Alycia and a few other friends to attend Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated concert in Singapore in March 2024.

Alycia’s admiration for Taylor Swift began when she was just 11 years old and in primary school, precisely 9 years ago. Back then, she begged me to let her attend Taylor’s concert, but due to various reasons, I had to say no. As a compromise, I bought her a pair of Keds Taylor Swift sneakers (with Swift’s signature on the shoes), which helped alleviate some of her disappointment.

Fast forward to the present day, the long-awaited opportunity finally presented itself and Alycia’s dream is now about to become a reality. Alycia and her friends have to look for an Air BNB unit in JB and purchase the return bus tickets. From JB, they will take the KTM Shuttle Train to Singapore, which only takes 5 minutes and costs only RM5. I heard from Alycia that her friend is already in the midst of booking the Air BNB!

It is going to be so exciting for Alycia and her friends to immerse themselves in the electrifying ambiance of Taylor Swift’s concert in Singapore next March.

With effect from July, Sherilyn doesn’t need to work on Saturdays anymore at the cafe. She now works at a bakery @ Gardens Mall on Mondays and Tuesdays and then works at the cafe from Wednesdays to Fridays. July will be the last month that she gets to work part-time as she will begin her pre-U studies in August.

I told Sherilyn to give herself two weeks to settle a ton of things before she goes to college and gets even busier. She’s been super busy since late last year with tuitions to prep for her SPM exam. After her SPM, she has been busy with part-time work and dancing. Because of her busyness, she’s not gone to her dentist to check the progress of her teeth and braces since March this year. She’s supposed to see the dentist every fortnightly but has missed three months of dental appointments despite me nagging her to get an appointment! 🙄

Finally, Sherilyn had the time to whip up something delicious as she now has one free day in the week. Last Friday evening after she got back from work, she cooked a delicious tomato soup using the Thermomix. The next day, she pan-fried sourdough bread with butter and cheese and had it for brunch.

This set probably costs over RM30 at a fancy cafe but is only half the cost or even lesser here. And it’s so delicious!

Crazy Cat Girls

It was a typical Saturday evening for our family where we had dinner at our usual neighborhood tai chow restaurant. After dinner, we went to the pharmacy to get some stuff. While walking towards the pharmacy, Cass and Sherilyn’s attention was captured by the sight of a kitten and an older cat at a shop under renovation. Without hesitation, they approached the cats, their faces lighting up with excitement (as usual, whenever they spot a cat on the street).

The girls’ inherent compassion shone through as they insisted on buying wet cat food from the pharmacy. With hearts brimming with empathy, they believed that these skinny stray cats deserved a good meal. After I got my stuff and cat food from the pharmacy, we headed back to the stray cats.

The dusty ground of the shop under construction served as an impromptu feeding station for the hungry felines. Fortunately, I had a large piece of paper napkin in my bag, which I placed on the ground as a makeshift plate and laid the food out for the cats to enjoy.

As the food was presented, the famished kitten wasted no time and eagerly devoured the meal. Meanwhile, the bigger black cat, despite his hunger, patiently observed the kitten’s feast. When the bigger cat tried to eat the food, the kitten was reluctant to share the food. And what surprised us was the bigger cat just backed away tolerantly. The girls and I were deeply moved by the black cat’s patience and caring demeanor. It was a testament to the cat’s selflessness and innate understanding of the kitten’s needs.

Inspired by the scene unfolding before them, Sherilyn took it upon herself to buy two additional packets of wet cat food. The girls’ intention was to ensure that both cats had enough to eat. Unfortunately, the kitten’s voracious appetite left nothing for the bigger cat, who continued to watch attentively from a distance whilst trying his luck to have a mouthful of the food, only to be bullied by the kitten.

Touched by the black cat’s loving personality, I wished I had the space to adopt it. The black cat’s gentle nature and selflessness touched our hearts deeply.

Selflessness reigns over own needs (hunger), a trait shown by the black cat, which I hope can be shown by more humans.

This past Sunday, our family had a unique and eventful day with each member engaged in their own activities. While Cass immersed herself in the thrilling world of anime at an anime fest in IOI City Mall at Putrajaya, Alycia, dedicated her time to her weekend part-time work. Meanwhile, my MIL embarked on an exciting trip to Ipoh with her erstwhile schoolmates. Amidst these diverse activities, Sherilyn, hubs and I enjoyed a delightful lunch experience at Haidilao.

After recalling our enjoyable visit to Haidilao in April, where we celebrated Cass’s birthday, hubs and I decided to revisit this delightful establishment for a satisfying hotpot lunch.

Haidilao’s reputation for excellent service and mouth-watering hotpot options made it an obvious choice. As we settled into our cozy table, reminiscing about our previous experience, we couldn’t help but wished that Alycia and Cass could join us.

With bubbling pots in front of us, we immersed various ingredients, ranging from thinly sliced meats to an assortment of seafood and vegetables, into the flavorful broth. We ordered the yellow fish maw and Japanese dashi broth. Both the broths were very flavorful and thick, especially the yellow fish maw. Each morsel was carefully cooked to perfection, creating a symphony of flavors that tantalized our taste buds.

While we were savoring our hotpot lunch, Cass, embarked on her own adventure at IOI City Mall for half a day. She and her high school classmates attended an anime fest, immersing themselves in the vibrant and imaginative world of Japanese animation. Even though we couldn’t physically be there with her, the Life360 app provided me with a sense of reassurance and peace of mind as I tracked her whereabouts throughout the time she was away.

However, instead of forbidding her from going, I decided to leverage the power of technology to keep an eye on her without intruding on her freedom.

The Life360 app, which is a comprehensive family locator tool designed to enhance safety and communication among family members seems like the perfect solution to alleviate my concerns and allow Cass to explore her newfound independence while still providing me with real-time updates on her whereabouts.

After she got into the Grab car, which she booked using the app on her phone, she shared the ride details with me. I immediately started tracking her journey through the Life360 app on my phone. Simultaneously, I could also view the car’s location through the Grab life tracking system, giving me an additional layer of security. Being able to monitor her route and progress in real time offered me reassurance, as I knew I could quickly respond in case of any unforeseen circumstances.
