My Sunday – 2 Oct 2016 (Stung By Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen Song!)

Hubs had worked late the previous night, thus wasn’t in the bubbly mood to bring us out of the neighborhood to join him in his Sunday “jalan-jalan cari makan” spin.

Instead, we had Japanese at the restaurant at our condo.

After lunch, we dropped off the big girl at the hair salon for her monthly hair cut while I went to get some groceries. She’s been pestering me since 2 weeks ago for a hair cut coz she was worried that she would be the next random’victim’ to get her hair cut by the disciplinary teacher in school.

Back home, the girls and I just couldn’t stop watching music videos of Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen or PPAP on You Tube. When I watched the video for the first time two days ago, I thought it was the stupidest music video ever! And I could not comprehend how this video has become an instant internet sensation with over 16 million views on You Tube. It has also become Justin Bieber’s favorite video on the internet. The video does not make sense at all. The lyrics are: “I have a pen. I have an apple. Apple-pen! I have a pen. I have [a] pineapple. Pineapple-pen! Apple-pen. Pineapple-pen. Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen.” Uh Uh. Piko Taro, a character created by Kosaka, is seen dancing in the clip, wearing an animal print outfit.

But you know what? Stupid and nonsensical as it is, the more I watch this music video, the more I love it. There’s not a single time that I wouldn’t laugh till I tear watching this “brainwash song”. The girls commented that their mummy is also bitten by the PPAP song HA HA HA HA!

Go have a watch too. Betcha you’ll be bitten by the PPAP bug too!!

Febrile Fits Caused By High Fever And How To Perform CPR

Today I had a shock of my life when I read from my friend’s blog on how she almost lost her 2-year old son who had high fever caused by viral fever. Her blog posting made me realize how lucky Cass was to have survived a fever above 40 degrees C without any unfavorable incidences just 2 weeks ago. I must thank God again and also my Izumio for helping Cass to recover in only 4 days without medication and hospitalization.

The El-Nino weather these days has been terribly hot. Many people whom I know are down with high fever, Influenza A and B and other upper respiratory tract infections, including yours truly. Thank God I managed to self-treat myself (with lots of Izumio and Super Lutein) and have just recovered. Another friend of mine, her daughter who is the same age as Cass and studies in the same school as Cass has been warded in the hospital for 18 days, also for viral fever.

Back to my friend’s 2-year son. When his fever shot up to 39.6 degrees C, he went into febrile fits. Then his eyeballs rolled up leaving only the white eyes visible. Moments later, his body went limp and his lips turned blue. He had stopped breathing!! It was the first time that her son had febrile fits and she wasn’t prepared or experienced to know what to do. But thank God for blessing us mothers with the presence of mind and quick thinking. My friend then performed CPR on her son. What got me really thinking hard after reading her blog post is this. Do I even remember how to perform CPR? I learnt CPR when I was 14 years old at a Bronze Medallion swimming life-saving class. But that was almost 30 years ago. I can’t even remember what I learned 3 months or 3 years ago. And as a mother, knowing how to perform CPR is a MUST. Do you know how to perform CPR? I am sure most of us have forgotten or have zero knowledge. Don’t worry, it’s still not to late to learn it now.

I spent half an hour at You Tube just now watching videos on how to perform CPR. I have included here a video on how to perform CPR on a child (1 – 12 years old). Have a watch and do search You Tube for more videos to get yourself familiarize on how to perform this life-saving act. You’ll never know when you’ll need to do it to save a life.

Finally Sherilyn did the handstand stunt that she’s always wanted to do in her choreographed hip hop dance. After practising this stunt on end on Saturday, she finally got it!

Video Of Baby Singing “Happy Birthday To You”

Baby loves singing and can remember the tune of many nursery rhymes very well. Some of the songs that she can sing at 21 months old are ‘Happy Birthday’, the ABC song (with help from me), Barney’s I Love You, You Love Me song, some songs from Hi-5 and some nursery rhymes.

At 18 months old, Baby could slot all the shapes correctly into this shape sorter in just minutes, which Elaine Tan gave her as a present after her surgeries last year. At 21 months old now, she could single out all the shapes in the shape sorter to me correctly when asked to, most of the time. The shapes that she can now recognize are star, square, triangle, oval, crescent, rectangle and semi-circle (she will get this confused with crescent at times).

In terms of her speech, Baby is also developing pretty well. She can speak quite well in sentences now. Some of the sentences that she uses everyday are “mummy, please help me clip” (asking me to clip her hair and yes, she’s another vain pot like Sherilyn!), “sorry kakak”, “I wan go kai kai”, “mummy, open me” (open for me), “I wan biscuit”, “I wan try” (when she wants to try new food), “no more”, “I wan more”, “I want nut nut” and the latest favorite sentence is “mummy, keep first”. She will say “mummy, keep first” whenever someone gives her an ang pow and she will pass the ang pow to me for safekeeping.

Baby is a very smart toddler and I pray that she will always be in good health, good spirits and will never ever get another UTI attack again.

Video of Baby C Roll-Calling

She can now call everyone in the house very clearly. Even the ‘k’ sound in kakak is pronounced very clearly. I’ll melt each time she calls me mummy in a very manja tone. As for koong koong, she can only pronounce it as ‘toong toong’ and granny pronounced as ‘nanny’. Koo Koo (my youngest sil from Saipan) is pronounced as ‘ka koo’ lol! Her “I love you” is pronounced as “Aaaaaar……woooooo” muahahaha! Can also say ‘please’ (will keep saying ‘peashe’ if she wants something badly) and ‘than’ (thank you) whenever she receives something that she likes from people.

Baby turned 17 months yesterday. At 17 months, she can understand many things that we say (in English, Cantonese, Malay and Mandarin) and can carry out many instructions like please throw rubbish into the bin, sit down, stand up, squat up and down, go wee wee, poo poo, bring mummy this and that, etc, etc. She loves imitating our actions too. Just the other day, I punished Sherilyn when she spilled my cup of Milkmaid tea (again!) and sent her standing at the corner…. and made her pull her ears and do squat ups and downs. When Baby saw it, she too imitated Sherilyn jie jie by pulling her own ears and doing squat ups and downs hahahaha!

Her weight is still pathetic, hovering at 9kg. She’s in an extremely active phase now and I guess that’s why her weight ain’t moving up much. Otherwise, Baby is a healthy, happy and cheerful baby who now loves to throw tantrums and loves to give me those shrieking and whining sounds like her Sherilyn jie jie everyday o_O!

Video Of Baby C Calling Cheh Cheh

Whenever Baby C sees the picture of her 2 doting cheh chehs on my handphone, she will say “cheh cheh”. A few days ago, I managed to capture her on video calling “cheh cheh” like this:

“Cheh Cheh” was one of the first few words that Baby C uttered when she was 9-10 months. She has yet to call me “mummy” but calls me “meh meh” all the time… and that’s enough to melt my heart!
