Colorful Meals

I love colorful meals cooked using only naturally colored ingredients. I love colorful clothes too.  I just love anything that’s colorful as it makes my life more colorful! Bright colors make me happy.  Happy colors seem to do the magic in lifting me up from my doldrums. I have a ‘lucky dress’ which I will only wear when I desperately need luck.  It’s a colorful floral short dress. I treasure it and it’s an under RM50 dress from my online store.   Each time I wear it, I am lucky. I better not talk too much about it, lest I jinx it!

My two older daughters cringed when they saw the new car that their dad had bought for  me 4 years ago ~ in bright pink!   They are not so colorful inclined. They love black  and other earthy colors. That’s just so opposite me. But when it comes to food, everyone loves colorful meals. And it makes it easier for me to cook. I like adding tomatoes, carrots, traffic light colors bell peppers, beet root, etc to my dishes and I don’t get complaints from the 3 fussy pots.

On one of the days last week, I cooked macaroni beef bolognese for lunch. The girls’ grand aunt had given us a big pot of beef bolognese sauce. All I had to do the next day was to cook some macaroni al dente and mix it with the heated up beef bolognese sauce. The girls loved their lunch to bits.

As there was still a lot of macaroni left, I stir fried it with some colorful vegetables for dinner the next day.  I added some curry powder to give it that more-ishness since the girls love curry.

While the girls had macaroni beef bolognese for lunch, I had salad with beef bolognese sauce. My salad composed of organic alfalfa + onion sprouts, baby beet root, organic yacon, Korean kimchi, toasted almond strips and a little preserved Japanese anchovies.

I also made organic mulberry smoothie with mango, apples and orange, with a tinge of raw honey and Korean fruit vinegar. So refreshing and so colorful, iLike!

Smoothie Of The Day – 16 June 2017

I have not prepped fruit smoothie for the girls for a long time.  Today I decided to make mulberry smoothie since there’s a box of organic mulberries left sitting in the fridge for almost a week.  I know that the girls will be delighted to find chilled smoothie in the fridge when they get home in a bit. I love to hear them rejoice to a “YAY!!” when they come home to find surprises awaiting them.

Mulberries are filled with nutrients that are important for our body, including iron, riboflavin, vitamin C, vitamin K, potassium, phosphorous, and calcium, as well as a significant amount of dietary fiber and a wide range of organic compounds, including phytonutrients, zea-xanthin, resveratrol, anthocyanins, lutein, and various other polyphenolic compounds.

My mulberry smoothie composes of mulberries, 3 oranges, 1 pear, juice of 1 lemon, raw honey and water and all these yield 1.2 liters of smoothie.

Healthy Friday – 8 April 2016

Smoothie for today composes of pineapple (half), green apple (1) and orange (2)

This can yield 3 full mugs and 1 bottle for the girls and the hubs.

The girls are having vermicelli with prawn + chicken soup, to go with some takeout char siew and roast chicken. Yeah, I know the weird combo. The mil wanted to clear the freezer and the vermicelli had been lying around for months already.

I am too lazy to prepare a proper salad for myself, thus I am going to have organic broccoli + radish sprouts with skinny char siew and roast chicken breast meat, drizzled with chili sauce from the chicken rice stall and roasted sesame seed salad dressing. I call this my Skinny Super Low Carb Salad 😀

Today is a maid-less day, which means that I have to start sweating buckets in the El Nino heat flexing my muscles round the house 🙁 🙁

I. Hate. House. Chores.!

Have a good weekend world! 🙂

Beet Root Smoothie On A Hot And Hazy Day (38 Degrees Celsius)

I knew it. As expected, today has been a sizzling hot and hazy day!  So hot that I had already taken 3 showers as at 3pm today — first shower was after 26 laps in the pool at 630 a.m. (which made me feel SO GOOD!), second shower was after having breakfast with the hubby outside while waiting for our car to be washed and then did some groceries shopping at an air-cond mart. Third shower was after waiting for 15 minutes at the lobby for Cass and Sherilyn.

As I am typing this post, I have 2 fans blowing  at me at full blast. I am still trying really hard NOT to press on the air-cond remote control at our living room! Our electricity bill last month was a frigging RM520!!

Today I made 2 types of smoothies:  orange + apple + chia seeds smoothie for the girls. Beet root + orange + apple + chia seeds smoothie for myself.

If you do not already know, beets are not only choke-full of vitamins, minerals and cleansing properties, they are nature’s Viagra!  Seriously!  The ancient Romans used them medicinally as an aphrodisiac and it’s backed by science.  Beets contain high amounts of boron, which is directly related to the production of human sex hormones.

Nuff said, right?  Beet roots are a health powerhouse, taste good, prevent cancer, detoxify the liver and increase one’s libido!  Sign me up!  Beets will be a staple in my fridge from now onwards!  Make them yours too 🙂

Avocado Oat Bran Almond Chocolate Milk Shake

My brekkie today (after a 20-lap swim in the pool), fit for a health freak and those planning on losing some weight 😀

Composition: Half avocado + 3 tablespoons organic oat bran + a handful of baked almonds + fresh chocolate milk + chilled water (ice cubes would be more refreshing) blitzed for about 20 seconds in my Blendtec blender.

This avo oat bran almond choco milk shake was so yummy and it filled me up well too.  I also had a handful of Edamame beans, left over from the girls’ breakfast at 6am.

Super Sprout Natural Food Powder – Share&Win Contest and Promo Code!

One of the things that makes me really happy is healthy food. I love being surrounded with all things healthy and colorful. Thus, I will go gaga inside an organic shop or at the fruits and veggie section of a supermarket. I love dishing out colorful meals and smoothies for my kids too. 🙂

Yesterday, I was one very happy health freak mommy when I received my package of healthy fruit powder from Super Sprout Malaysia, comprising of blueberry powder, beetroot powder and ginger powder.  Thank you so much for sending these good stuff to me Reako Sdn Bhd!  I love them so much!!

Why is Super Sprout so good?

Super Sprout powders are natural food powder which can be used in cooking, baking (bread, cookies, cakes, tarts), smoothies, yogurt, salad, soup, sauce and basically any recipe.

Not only can Super Sprout powders improve the colour and taste of a dish in a very natural way, the food powders also enrich nutrient  profile and improve digestibility of the nutrients found in them.

Using Super Sprout powders is easy peasy too. Just a teaspoon a day — sprinkle, stir, mix or add into any dish you like.  No fuss, no waste, no mess.

Super Sprout powders are suitable for the whole family’s consumption, including children of one year and above.

Super Sprout powders come from 100% Australian grown fruits and vegetables.

I could not wait to try out the powders and made a quick dash to the kitchen to whip up my smoothie-of-the-day, which was orange + green apple + Super Sprout blueberry powder for the girls.

I whizzed a teaspoon of Super Sprout blueberry powder with the fruits for 20 seconds on my Blendtec blender.  Then, sprinkled another teaspoon for decor.  I was worried that my fussy girls wouldn’t like the taste but they were awed by the vibrant colors of their smoothie and bolted down their smoothie in a jiffy!

Mine was orange + green apple + beetroot powder.  I find that beetroot powder is much more palatable than taken raw. The beetroot powder is super fine and slightly saltish, which tantalizes my palate.  I love it!

I used a teaspoon of Super Sprout beetroot powder to pulse it with my fruits and sprinkled another teaspoon for deco. Don’t you just like the reddish pinkish hue of my smoothie? It’s good stuff, bursting with flavors and nutrients ok.

I wasn’t in the mood to eat any meat yesterday (again!), so I whipped up something that’s excitingly meat-free for lunch.

I had toasted sprouted wheat bread with cream cheese and Super Sprout blueberry powder. The combo tastes like blueberry cheese spread, with a hint of saltiness and tanginess. Just perfect for health freaks who are on a low-carb diet.  You can drizzle some Manuka honey, maple syrup or palm sugar syrup on the toast, if you fancy it slightly sweet.

Crispy, yummy and wholesome sprouted wheat toast for lunch, with a hard boiled free-range chicken egg, avocado and fresh blueberries.  I love the colors on my plate – so vibrant, so enticing and so healthy – anytime better than a plate of nasi lemak or chicken rice 😀

In the afternoon, I made myself a cuppa Super Sprout ginger powder tea, sweetened with palm sugar syrup. I used a teaspoon heap of ginger powder and a drizzle of palm sugar syrup to a cup of hot water.  Drinking this ginger tea brought back sweet memories of my confinement days where I was treated like a queen — I had sumptuous meals in my bedroom 4-5 times a day and gulped down cups after cups of ginger tea 😀

Ginger is well-known for reducing gas and painful spasms in the intestinal tract.  It also reduces menstrual cramps, has a warming effect, stimulates circulation, inhibits such bacteria as Salmonella and protozoa and prevents stomach ulcers.

Awesome Rawsome Lunch – 2 April 2015

Yesterday was awesome rawsome lunch day for me.  I do that twice or thrice a week, for lunch.  Today is yet another day of going raw for lunch, well almost, but I will be adding an egg to increase my hemoglobin levels.  I am anemic, caused by heavy menses, which in turn is contributed by a tiny fibroid in my uterus.

My awesome rawsome lunch yesterday was Pesto Salad.  The salad  composed of alfalfa and onion sprouts, walnut, almond, pecan, sesame seeds, organic Japanese kyuri, organic cherry tomatoes, green grapes, seasoned seaweed, fried shallots, Japanese Yuzu plum dressing and homemade Pesto paste.

Before lunch, I downed 2 glasses of raw smoothie, consisting of orange, apple, green grapes and alfalfa and onion sprouts.  The kids and the hubs had orange and apple smoothie, sans the raw sprouts.

**BURP**!!  That was so so filling and enough to sustain me till dinner while giving me the fuel to slave for the kids and household 😀

Can anyone eat such healthy stuff just for a day? Tell me you can! They are good stuff you’re pumping into your body alright! 😉

Hectic Day

The past few days have been hectic for me. I have been in a checking + packing frenzy, to rush out my customers’ orders. Total is the last day for courier pick up before the Hari Raya holiday. Since last week, I have been receiving stock from my supplier almost everyday. The house is in a mess. Clothes and parcels are everywhere. On the dining table – the girls’ school books and workbooks are piled high up. It’s the exam week for Alycia and Sherilyn. Everyone in the house has been busy busy busy! I am a ONE LEG KICK entrepreneur  work-from-home-mum with no help.

This is  part of my customers’ parcels for Pos Laju collection today…

The past few days, I have been churning out smoothies for the girls.  This is just what they need now – an extra boost of vitamins and antioxidants to fight the exam stress and haze.

Today I made ice-blended orange + pineapple + chia seeds + fresh coconut water and coconut flesh smoothie with our Blendtec blender.  Love this blender as it can churn out 3-4 glasses of smoothie at the touch of a button.    Boost Juice uses Blendtec too. And it is super easy to clean!

This  glass of immune system booster, blended with all natural goodness is so refreshing and good to the last drop.

And this is kept in a glass bottle in the fridge, for Sherilyn when she comes home in the evening…

Beet Root Smoothies

Today, I made some healthy smoothies with beet root, the root that is a well-known powerhouse of antioxidants and soluble fiber.   With one medium size beet root, I made:

1) beet root + green apple + chia seeds smoothie for myself. I used about 3/4 of the beet root and 1 whole green apple.

2) less than 1/4 beet root + 3 oranges + 6 strawberries + chia seeds to make 3 cups of smoothies for the 3 princesses.  I used strawberries to mask the raw taste of beet root and to add flavor to the smoothie. I love adding strawberries to my smoothies to add flavor and sweetness.

Since beet root is high in fiber, I had to add about 3/4 cups of water to blend with the beet root and fruits to dilute the smoothie and to make it smoother and easier to swallow.   I was really surprised that my girls had no problem gulping down their cup of healthy tonic.  In fact, my most pernickety eater, Alycia is the biggest fan of all, of my healthy smoothies.  She likes it as she could drink it chilled and this is also  the only time I relax on the ‘no cold drinks and cold food’ restriction on her.  This girl of mine has a sensitive throat and gets phlegm pretty easily. Recently it got so bad that each time she drank ice drinks or ate ice cream, the phlegm would gag her throat till she puked after her meals.  Ever since I imposed the ‘no cold drinks / cold food’ restriction on her plus removed milk from her cold turkey, her throat has improved remarkably well.
