Salted Egg and Custard Bun

This steamed salted egg and custard bun from daddy’s favorite Duck King Restaurant is simply the best. It’s so delicious that I put aside the thought of my bulging baby belly and ate 2 of these buns at one go! The bun is generously filled with piping hot custard and melted salted egg.

A note of caution – be really careful when you bite into this bun when it’s freshly steamed and piping hot coz the filling will ooze out and will burn your lips and tongue.

Alycia relishing the bun.

Guess What This Is?

Guess what this is? This is the appetizer served at Duck King Restaurant at Jaya 1, PJ. I bet no one can guess what this appetizer is, even after tasting it. Initially, I thought it tasted a tad like deep fried anchovies. The taste and texture are quite unique and it is really difficult to discern if it is a meat, a fish or a vege. It’s actually made of duck meat and deep fried with a special coating of flour mixture with curry powder.

Verdict – a very delicious and unique appetizer. Everyone loved it, especially Sherilyn.

Check out my other blog to see what other dishes we ate at Duck King Restaurant.

Yummylicious Desserts

Are these sinful desserts making you salivate now? We had lunch at Delicious @ Bangsar Village on Monday and ordered these for our desserts :

Mango cheese cakes with chunks of fresh mango bits and shreds of lemon grass (serai).

Apple and peach crumble with vanilla ice-cream.

Verdict – the mango cheese cake was good but I didn’t quite like the apple and peach crumble.  I should have ordered the banana pudding instead.

Tony Roma’s Ribs

If you love beef, especially beef ribs, you really have to check out Tony Roma’s Ribs Restaurant.

Tony Roma’s beef ribs are really tasty and tender but a tad pricey.   If you’ve tasted them, you would not mind paying a little extra for a rack of really delicious ribs.

This is a blue cheese burger.  Want to know whether it tasted heavenly or yucky,  click here to read on.

Seoul Korea Korean Restaurant

We had Korean food at Seoul Korea Korean Restaurant @ Taman Desa, Old Klang Road on Sunday last week.  This restaurant who is owned by a Korean woman serves homecooked Korean food, cooked by the owner’s mother herself.  The food is really delicious.  What I really like was the huge variety of Korean appetisers which are given on the house if a set dish is ordered.  Since we ordered 2 set dishes (a BBQ beef and a beef steamboat),  we were given unlimited replenishable delicious appetisers.  The appetisers alone were enough to fill us up, even before the main course came.

The waiter preparing the BBQ beef.

The BBQ beef wrapped up in raw lettuce leaves and chunks of raw garlic – very delicious!

The beef steamboat set – the beef broth was really rich and tasty.

Our Dinner On The First Day Of CNY

On Chor Yat (1st day of CNY), we had buffet dinner at Lemon Grass Coffee House @ Shangri-La Hotel.  During major festivals, Shang card members are not entitled to the 50% discount for 2 diners.  Instead, they are only granted a 10% discount.  Despite getting only a 10% discount, the dinner was still very much cheaper than the dinner we had at Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant @ PJ Hilton the night before.

I should not have opted for the buffet as I had eaten very little.  These days, I just don’t seem to feel hungry. My ballooning uterus must have cramped up my intestines and other organs.  It was worst during CNY when there were so many occasions of eating out.  The food at the buffet spread was really good but I just did not feel like eating  anything but still forced some grub into my tummy.  The big fresh prawns, salmon, lobsters and sashimi at the raw food counter were really good but too bad I couldn’t eat any of those.  I’m counting down to the days I can finally touch those stuff…. 2 more months to go + 1 month confinement!

What really whetted my appetite was the ice-cream corner.  I had banana yoghurt and kiwi yoghurt ice-cream (which were not sweet at all, perfect for my taste bud) whilst hubby had a bowl of delicious teppanyaki ice-cream.  The choice of condiments and toppings for the teppenyaki ice-cream was not as wide as at the Coffee House @ Westin Hotel, but it was still good enough.

First, pick your choice of ice-cream flavor.

Then, the teppanyaki ice-cream chef will mash up the ice-cream with the choice of toppings and condiments ranging from cookies to M&Ms, nuts, dried fruits, fresh strawberries and much more.

The mashed ice-cream is then put into a bowl.  You can top up the ice-cream further with some chocolate, strawberry or mango sauce and more toppings.

Tasty Prawn Noodles

Does this bowl of Hokkien style prawn vermicelli make you salivate now?  As I am typing this post, I am already swallowing my saliva as I try to recapture how tasty this bowl of noodles was, with slices of pork, hard boiled egg, fresh big prawns and hot tasty soup.  I ate this at the newly opened Penang Gurney Drive Food Court @ Gardens, Mid Valley City on Monday.  This upscale food court carries a wide variety of authentic Penang hawkers’ food.

Hop on to my other blog to view pix of the other food that we had and to read reviews of them.  Make sure your tummy is full first, else it will rumble and tumble the whole day and night when you see those pix!

Scrumptious Waffles With Delectable Honey

One of the highlights at the breakfast buffet at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel coffee house was the range of honey available for the scrumptious waffles.

This is the first time I had eaten honey straight from the bee hives. Notice the honey dripping down from the bee hives through the wooden funnel into a bowl? Very unique display at a buffet spread and it’s also the first time I’d seen this at a hotel.

The hotel was so generous with Manuka honey and there were so many types of Manuka honey that I tried a little bit of every flavor from orange blossom Manuka honey to Aloe  Manuka honey, organic Manuka honey, Manuka syrup and much more.

The mouth-watering scrumptious waffle with delectable Manuka honey, honey straight from the bee hives any strawberry sauce.  Sooooo yummy!  No wonder my weight keeps increasing!

Christmas Dinner

We had steamboat on Christmas day. We have not had steamboat for almost 1 year already, can you beat that? That’s because we always feel very thirsty after having steamboat. I think there must be loads of MSG in the salty but tasty soup.  Another major turn-off about having steamboat is that we are normally all sweaty and uncomfortable after the meal, unless we eat in an air-conditioned steamboat restaurant.

We went to this steamboat restaurant called A-HO at Taman Desa. It’s a branch of Ho Ho Steamboat in Sri Petaling, the one that’s always packed.

We ordered an extra plate of QQ tofu, my favorite and an extra plate of fishballs for the gals.

This time, I didn’t drink the soup like it was water and I didn’t feel thirsty after the dinner. Thankfully it was also a very breezy and windy night, so we didn’t sweat much. Will definitely have steamboat again soon as the gals enjoy their meals very much.

Ipoh Ngar Choi Kai

We wanted to eat something light and soupy last Sunday, so we had Ipoh ‘ngar choi kai’ at Jalan Gasing PJ last Sunday after church. I can’t remember the name of the restaurant but it’s one of the oldest Ipoh ‘ngar choi kai’ restaurants in KL (over 30 years) and they have recently refurbished the restaurant. There are even misty fans outside the restaurant.

We ordered :

Chicken, pork balls and 2 plates of crunchy bean sprouts. Hubby and I love bean sprouts and we can even chomp down 1 big plate each ourselves.

Roast pork – not fantastic though as the top layer of the skin wasn’t crunchy enough.

Ipoh hor fun soup – very tasty and the texture of the hor fun was also very smooth.

Strawberry Fondue

Alycia and Sherilyn had another surprise when we were at Paya Serai Coffee House @ PJ Hilton to celebrate Raymond’s kau foo’s birthday last week. It was the first time we all saw a chocolate fondue that’s pink in color – a strawberry chocolate fondue, how unique and attractive.

After their meals, daddy brought the gals to dip their choice of fruits on sticks into the flowing strawberry chocolate fondue.

Little Vietnam

We had Vietnamese food at this little restaurant called Little Vietnam @ Mid Valley Megamall last week, after the gals’ outing at Megakidz.  Little Vietnam is located on the utmost top floor, i.e where Megakidz is.

We ordered their signature dish, the flat rice noodles with beef balls and slices of beef. It was very tasty but the beef was a bit tough.

Spring rolls – very tasty.

Stewed beef noodles. Tasty but the beef was too tough to chew and swallow.

Vietnamese version of cendol – very refreshing with fresh coconut milk.

Food was overall tasty but the beef was a tad tough.  The next time we go there again, we would only order the beef noodles with beef balls and spring rolls.

Lunch at Gardens, Mid Valley City

We were at Gardens @ Mid Valley City yesterday afternoon after church. Hubby wanted to bring us to a Taiwanese Restaurant (Fong Lye) located on one of the top floors. We entered the restaurant, ordered some dishes but were later told that there were no baby chairs. As the regular adult chairs were too low, we had to cancel our order and leave the place. I was rather disappointed coz the dishes there looked really mouth-watering and I really wanted to sink my teeth into those dishes. We will definitely go there again the next time, when the baby chairs arrive.

We then went to Yuzu Japanese Restaurant and the gals were so thrilled to have bumped into their Sunday school teachers, a lovely young couple who had just tied the knot.

The restaurant was classy and the service was good. Price is almost the same as any other Japanese restaurants and the food was good too. This is what we ordered :

Even Miss Spity Spat who doesn’t like to eat meat gobbled the chicken teriyaki and rice and ate 1.5 cups of Chawan Mushi (Japanese egg custard).

I so wanted to sink my teeth into the delicious fresh sashimi but gotta try hard to refrain myself from doing so.  Well, just wait for another 6-7 more months and I’ll get to indulge myself in raw fish again.

How We Spent Our Sunday

After church today, we went to Bangsar Village. We had gone there on Friday to have lunch at Delicious (one of our favorite restaurants) and just when we were about to leave, we passed by a newly opened Italian restaurant called Marco’s Pizza (can’t remember the exact name), located opposite Grocers Village. Hubby browsed their menu and the food looked good, so he promised to bring us here on Sunday (today). Well, the food is good. I love the pasta, especially the Pesto pasta and the pasta with pine nuts, avocado and prawns cooked in tomato paste. The cod fish pasta was also good. Their pizzas are all baked in wood stove fire. This is what we had for lunch today :

The wood stove to bake pizzas.

The restaurant is very spacious (with split level), very clean and there is also a kids’ play area. It is a very kids’ friendly restaurant and suitable for gatherings (we can hold a bloggers’ gathering there too!). Will definitely dine in this restaurant again.

The kids’ play area – very clean.
