Feeling Really Heavy

As I was running across the road to the newspaper vendor to buy the morning papers, I suddenly felt really heavy, as if my legs just can’t carry my body weight anymore.  I have always been petite and light all my life (except during my pregnancies) and this morning, gee, I felt heavy and fat once again.  I have so far gained 6kg and I forsee to gain 1kg a month for the next 4 months till my delivery day.  Just hope I won’t have a hard time shedding off those fat. I think I will really need to buy a treadmill to help me loose weight coz I don’t think I will have the time to jog at 7am everday anymore with 2 toddlers and 1 infant to care for.

Plain Tired and Sleepy

I have been feeling really sleepy and lethargic these days.  I wonder if I had overworked myself for the last few weeks and now my body is telling me to slow down. I used to be able to wake up at 5:30am to do my writing, sometimes even able to feel fresh and alert to wake up at 3 or 4am to check for offers but now, all I need is just sleep, sleep and sleep and I just have no zest or zeal to pull myself up from bed at those crazy hours anymore.  Now, I sleep at around 12 midnight and can only wake up at the earliest 6:30am, though my alarm clock would buzz me at around 6am.  I wonder if it’s due to my pregnancy hormones playing  tricks on me.

A Pregnant Mummy’s Crave

Today I craved for curry puff and fatt koa, aka Chinese muffins.  So I went to the nearby Chinese kuih stall to buy a gigantic curry puff with lots of chicken, potatoes and eggs as filling (which costs RM1.30 each) and a purple sweet potato fatt koa.  When hubby saw me eating these and sharing the fatt koa with the gals, got lecture from him again.  Ever since I am preggers, hubby does not like to see me eat hawkers food.  Each time he sees me eating fried vegetarian meehoon bought from the roadside van or any food bought from hawkers, he will give me a strict sideway glance and shake his head.  Worst still if he sees me feeding his 2 princesses with these food!  So I normally eat before he wakes up or after he is off to work, LOL!

Relief For Dry and Itchy Skin

Many of my readers suggested Palmer’s Cocoa Butter oil to relief dry and itchy skin.  I got a bottle from the pharmacy on Monday and have been applying copious amounts to my skin twice a day after my bath but I don’t see much results.  Though my skin is not that itchy and dry as it was before but it is still considered very dry and I how I hate the ‘pulling’ sensation, the kind you get in extremely dry skin.

I will try another dry and itchy skin relief today, i.e. Jojo oil, bought from my gynae’s clinic and will see if it brings better relief.

Burger King

After my appointment with the fetal specialist today, daddy asked the gals what they’d like to have for lunch.  Both Alycia and Sherilyn wanted to have burgers as they got hooked to burgers when daddy brought them to MacDonalds on Monday.  I didn’t want fast food as they are not the healthiest of food but when the gals vote for something, mummy’s suggestion is always disregarded.

Anyway, the girls had loads of fun at the indoor playground.  Alycia gobbled down her beef burger whilst Miss Spitty Spat only ate a bite of chicken nuggets, some onion rings, french fries (she loves these junks) and her good old cereal.

Daddy surprised Alycia when he told her that he has booked a birthday party at Burger King for her to celebrate her 4th birthday this Sunday.  I was gobsmacked!  With less than 3 days of notice, I am sure most of my friends would not be able to attend the party.  Anyway, I’ll see how many will turn up.

After taking a bite of the chicken nuggets, Miss Spitty Spat Sherilyn tai cheed everything to Alycia who gladly took them with open arms and open mouth.

Miss little social butterfly on the birthday throne.  As she sat there she could not stop singing the nursery rhyme “Old King Cole Was A Merry Old Soul” as she saw the king’s crown and this made all of us laughed so hard.

On Sunday, it will be cheh cheh’s turn to sit there and have all eyes fixated on her.

Please hop on to my other blog to read up more on the detailed scan on my baby and the prognosis of the baby’s dilated kidney.

Dry and Peeling Skin

That’s a picture of the dry and peeling skin on my belly and waist.  Though I’ve been applying copious amounts of baby oil on my body twice a day after my shower, this however does not seem to hydrate and moisturize my skin.  I wonder what’s wrong with my skin.  I had forgotten to ask my gynae when I saw him last week.   Whenever Sherilyn sees the dry and peeling skin on my arms and belly, she always gives me a hand in peeling off the skin!

Pregnancy at 18 Weeks

That’s my belly at 18 weeks+.  Pretty big eh?  But many people are not even aware that I’m preggers, maybe because of my dressing up and I know how to conceal my belly!  Also, I have not put on much weight.  To date, I’ve only gained 3.5kg.   As with my other 2 pregnancies, my appetite has reduced tremendously as my belly expands but I’m trying to force myself to eat wholesome food.

Amniocentesis Results

The day finally came when the results for my Amnio test were out.  I had called the gynae’s office in the morning but was told that it’s not out yet.  Later in the afternoon, the nurse called to inform me that it’s finally out, 4 days early.  As it was pouring heavily with thunder and lightning, I couldn’t hear her clearly on my cellphone.  When she repeated the second time, I was really overjoyed to hear that everything is normal.  As to the gender of the baby…… I am sure everyone is eager to know yah?  Is it a boy or a girl?  Not telling just yet.

Ok, I’ll stop pulling everyone’s legs,  I’m going to have another princess!  Though my gynae had told me earlier that it’s a boy, it turned out to be a girl!  The little dicky bird that I had seen on the screen had vanished!  I swear I saw it but looks like it could have been the umbilical cord maybe?  As I had mentioned earlier, it really doesn’t matter to me whether the baby is a girl or a boy.  What matters most is that the baby is healthy and perfect.  Well, I am still not 100% convinced with just a phone call.  I still have to see the results myself to believe that my baby is ok.  I’m scheduled to see my gynae on Wednesday next week but I’m going to call to have an earlier appointment.

My Fresh Milk Stock

That’s how much fresh milk I drink for 1.5 weeks – 4 boxes of my favorite Marigold HL milk – plain and banana flavor.  Despite having aversion to certain food, luckily I still love milk during my pregnancy, all 3 of them.  When I was carrying Alycia and didn’t have appetite to eat anything, I was practically surviving only on fresh milk and soups.

My Craving Was Satisfied

Remember I had posted earlier that one night as I was having my shower, I had this sudden crave for banana muffins?  Well I told my hubby about it and the next morning, he got me some banana muffins and a green tea and red bean chiffon cake from our favorite bakery.  Boy, it felt really good to be finally eating something that you’ve been craving for the whole night long.  Heavenly bliss!

Post Amniocentesis – Day 2

Just got back from my gynae’s office.  He did an ultrasound scan and told me that everything looks fine.  There is no built-up of amniotic fluid outside the sac and there is no bleeding around the area that was poked.  Baby’s right kidney still looks dilated. If the Amnio test shows that the baby has normal chromosomes, then, he’ll just have to monitor the kidney closely.  Hopefully the dilation will resolve by itself.

Alycia’s Acceptance Of The Baby

For the past 1 week,  Alycia has slowly but surely accepted the baby.  Everyday, she would hug my belly, kiss my belly and talk to the baby.  When she’s happy, she will tell the baby why she’s happy.  When she’s back from school, she will tell the baby that she’s back from school.  When daddy bought her a tub of Haegan Daz ice-cream yesterday,  she was so happy that she told the baby that daddy had bought her ice-cream and that the baby could also eat it too.  Alycia and Sherilyn are making me feel guilty coz they talk to the baby more than I do.  Really hoping and praying that this baby will be fine as I’m sure my 2 gals will adore this baby.

Pre-Natal Vitamins

These are the pre-natal vitamins that I am currently popping :

Vitamin E, Multi-vitamins, Vitamin C, Folic Acid, Calcium Lactate and

I have recently started to pop Neuro Gain, a kind of fish oil that’s supposedly good and recommended by gynaes too. It’s very expensive costing almost RM2 per capsule.  It’s known to aid in the baby’s brain development. I hate the taste of it when I burp, eeuuuu…. so fishy.

I hate plain water…no thanks to my wacky hormones

Eversince I got my first bout of morning sickness since week 8 of the pregnancy, I never liked drinking plain water. The sight of plain water sends nausea down my guts instantly.  I only like flavored water but it must be unsweetened water coz anything that’s sweet also made me nauseas.  So what I do now everyday is put sliced lemon, fresh strawberries or fresh ‘kam quat’  in my mug of water so that the water has a fruity smell and taste.

From gulping down 16 glasses of plain water a day pre-pregnancy, I can only force myself to drink a max of 8-9 glasses of water now. No wonder I’ve got so much zits on my face now. Also, without sweating and exercising, all the toxins are not released from my body.  How I hate those ugly zits on my face that’s once flawless and smooth!

I also like to drink diluted unsweetened organic cranberry juice and promegranate juice with acai berries, goji berries, cherries and other berries.  Occasionally, I drink decaffienated tea like Chamomile tea, Peppermint tea and Citrus Lemon tea.

I’m into my 15th week of pregnancy now and the morning sickness has subsided but I still feel nauseated after each meal, when I’m hungry or when I’m tired or sleepy. I just can’t wait for the 38th week to arrive. If everything goes smoothly, it’s going to be another elective c-section for me at week 38 as I’ve had c-section for my 2 previous pregnancies too.

Dilated Kidney and Ultrasound Scan

I consulted Dr Patrick of Fetal Medicine and Gynaecology Centre today upon recommendation by my gynae to consult a fetal specialist. After a thorough ultrasound scan and some calculations, I was told that my chances of having a ‘Down’ baby is low, i.e. risk is about 1 in 300. Apart from the dilated kidney, everything else looked normal. The baby has a nasal bone and the back of the neck wasn’t thick. Heart and brain looked normal. It was such a relief to hear that.

Dr Patrick said that in most cases, the dilated kidney would resolve by itself either in utero or after delivery. Close monitoring of the baby’s kidney is important throughout the pregnancy. The worst case scenario would be the baby having kidney reflux and only in rare cases would the kidney be damaged. So he had left the option of doing an Amnio test to hubby and I. We have decided to go for the test to get some peace of mind which is scheduled for in around 2 weeks’ time, i.e. at 16 weeks of gestation. A normal waiting period for the results to be out is 2 weeks and costs RM1,800, of which the amniotic fluid would be sent to Singapore. An express one would be done locally in KL and costs RM2,300, of which we have opted for.

Alycia and Sherilyn were very expensive babies and looks like this baby too would be very expensive. Well, as long as the baby’s fine and healthy, money is secondary and I shall continue to pray that this baby will be absolutely healthy and perfect.

And oh yes, my first gynae has told me the gender of the baby and I’ve seen it too on Tuesday. Today Dr Patrick told me that it is still not clearly visible yet. Well, to me girl or boy is not a concern anymore. It never was a concern to me. It is already a big gift from God if the baby is born healthy without any defects.

Birds’ Nest

That’s a bowl of birds’ nest double boiled with ‘pau sum’ (a type of ginseng) and rock sugar. I love birds’ nest and the only time I get to savour this expensive and exotic delicacy is when I’m pregnant. For both my pregnancies, I ate a lot of birds’ nest. Whenever my mil was around, she would soak the nests and then painstakingly spend 2 days cleaning the birds’ nest by using a tweezer to pick up dirt and feathers that are stuck to nests. Then, she would double boil the nests to perfection. However, when she’s overseas, hubby would buy the instant ones from Lo Hong Ka, which I don’t really fancy as they are tasteless when compared to the good quality ones that have been selected, cleaned and double boiled.

Last week, hubby bought 6 pieces of orangy colored wild birds’ nest from Eu Yang Sang and got the owner of the shop to double boil the birds’ nest. I’ve eaten 3 times and I have another 3 more rounds to go. They smell really good, like the aroma of cooked eggs. I was told that good quality birds’ nest would emit the smell of cooked eggs when they are boiled. I was really touched by hubby’s concern, well, I think he’s more concerned of the baby! When I asked how much the birds’ nest cost, my jaw almost dropped. The 6 tiny pieces of birds’ nest cost a whopping RM600!!
