Mah Mah Is Back

Alycia and Sherilyn have just followed daddy to the airport to fetch mah mah home.  They had just dozed off for about half an hour when daddy came home and said he wanted to bring them to the airport.  When I told them in their sleep that daddy’s home and wanted to bring them to the airport, they sprang out of bed like 2 wild monkeys on the loose and said ‘yay’, jumping and running around the house.   It’s surprising how surprises like this can jolt them up even in their deep sleep and they don’t even look as if they were deep in their sleep.  All the excitement were shown on their faces.  Now that my mil is back, one load is off my shoulder.  At least I don’t have to crack my head what to cook everyday, twice a day and my 2 gals will have someone to entertain them.  Sherilyn will have someone who can stomach all her temper tantrums and sit at the dining table for 2 hours every night to feed her dinner coz my mil is really patient with her.

Mah Mah’s Trip Back Postponed

Mah Mah’s not coming back next week. Hubby received a call from his mum last night saying that she’s fallen ill, thus her flight will be postponed. The gals are disappointed that Mah Mah is not coming back yet. Alycia kept asking me when Mah Mah will be back. She said she misses Mah Mah’s cooking. She told me today that she loves Mah Mah’s cooking more than mine. Oh ok, that was like a slap on the face for me!

Mah Mah Coming Back

Mah Mah will be coming back from Hong Kong this week and my 2 older gals are excited. Mah Mah has been away for 3 months and she’s back to help me with the 2 older gals when Baby C goes for the surgery next month.  This is a respite for me as I don’t have to worry about what to cook everyday.  There will also be someone to entertain the gals.  Hopefully Sherilyn will have fewer temper tantrums when her Mah Mah is around.

Alycia’s New Bicycle

Before Alycia’s birthday, Granny had promised her that she would buy her a bicycle. When we were back in Ipoh last week, koong koong and granny brought us to Giant to get her the bicycle. My folks spent almost an hour helping Alycia choose a bicycle.

Koong koong helping Alycia ride the bicycle. Initially, Alycia was afraid to get on the bicycle as she was afraid that she would fall. After getting some help and reassurance from koong koong, she gained some confidence and cycled round Giant, where the bicycles section is.
Notice Sherilyn folding her arms and looking sulky behind? That’s because she couldn’t get on the bicycle for a ride lol!

Alycia’s 5th birthday pressie – a bright red bicycle from granny.  Now, Sherilyn can have the old tricycle all to herself.

Homemade Jam – A Labor Of Love From My Parents

Whenever we are back at my parents’ in Ipoh, my dad would never fail to whip up all my favorite dishes while my mum would bake cakes, bread, jam and much more.

When we were back in Ipoh last week, my dad made some peanut butter and pineapple jam.  My dad bought a large, sweet and fragrant pineapple and my mum joined hands to make the pineapple jam.

First my dad cut up the pineapple into cubes.  Then my mum blended the pineapple and put the pineapple paste into her Kenwood breadmaker.

The pineapple jam (reduced sugar) all ready inside the bread maker. Everyone loves this jam. Even Baby C who hates sweet stuff (she associates sweet stuff with her daily antibiotics) loves this jam.

My dad dry frying the peanuts in slow flame in the wok. He then painstakingly spent almost an hour removing the peanut skin under a papaya tree in our garden. Next, my mum blended the peanuts, added some groundnut oil and a dash of salt.

Labor of love – the yummilicous peanut butter and pineapple jam that my parents made for their daugther and granddaughters.

Fun Activities With Granny

Granny has not seen the gals for almost 3 months and missed them terribly. When she came last week, the gals were very delighted to see her and of course granny was happy beyond words to see her only 3 grand children.

Let the pictures here tell the story :

Granny teaching the gals origami and they made balls, birds and much more.

Loving Mah Mah

Mah Mah left for HK on Saturday last week and thereafter for Japan the following day. Before she left, she went to the market to buy fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and some dried food stuff for us. She’s always like this. Before she goes back to HK or NZ each time, she will fill the fridge with a week’s supply of food stuff so that I don’t have to do marketing.

Raw chicken meat, pork ribs and fish.

Vegetables and fruits.

Dried food stuff.

She also went to Jaya Jusco and bought her 2 beloved grand daughters their favorite snack – different types of cheese!

Alycia and Sherilyn are now looking forward for all the gifts from mah mah from Japan and HK.

A Not-So-Healthy Breakfast

Whenever my mil is back home from HK or NZ, Alycia and Sherilyn will stick to their mah mah like glue. That’s because mah mah is oh so patient with them, hardly scolds them and often spoils them with food.

In this pic, Alycia was eating roti canai and kuih for breakfast. The gals rarely get a chance to eat this kinda food for breakfast when their mah mah is not here as I will only feed them healthy and wholesome food (eggs, orange juice, fruits, Edamame beans, fresh milk, yoghurt and cereal). So when they get to eat kuih, roti canai and other food that I hardly buy for them, it’s a real treat for them.

Learning With Granny

Granny is here again.  Being a retired school teacher and former private tutor, she has lots of activities for the gals to keep them fully occupied the whole day.   She will give Alycia tuition, read to the gals, teach the gals songs and nursery rhymes, play card games with them, do activity books with them and much more.  I wish granny can stay with us longer but she has to return to Ipoh soon.

The school holidays have come to an end and tomorrow Alycia has to go to school again.  When granny is back, I will have to take over and sit with Alycia to coach her in her homework everyday.   Sigh…. this means less me time and less blogging!

Granny and Koong Koong Will Be Here

The gals are getting all excited as granny and koong koong (my parents) will be here on Sunday.  The gals have not seen their grandparents for more than 3 months since we’ve not gone back to Ipoh since July and they miss them a lot.  My parents will only be here for 1 day and on Monday, they will fly to China for a 2-week vacation.

Last Day Spent With Mah Mah

The day before my mil returned to Hong Kong, the gals stuck to her like glue as they knew they will not see mah mah for a long time, probably not for the next half a year. This pic was taken the night before she returned to HK. Sherilyn normally lies down on the bed when she drinks her milk but that night, she demanded to be cuddled like a baby on her mah mah’s lap. The next time mah mah comes back, Sherilyn would have grown too big and long to be cuddled like a baby.

They Love Being With Mah Mah

The gals love being with their mah mah (paternal grandma) because only mah mah will be so lenient with them with food. Since mah mah loves eating, she buys new food home for the gals to eat almost everyday. Several days ago, mah mah bought a packet of dried pork meat home. As she was cutting the dried meat into smaller pieces to be stored into a tupperware, the gals crowded round her and waited to be fed with the meat. With mah mah at home, the gals will never go hungry as there are tidbits and snacks in the house all the time.

MIL Going Back To Hong Kong

My mil will be going back to Hong Kong tomorrow. I hope the gals will take it well, especially Alycia who has grown so attached to her mah mah over the last 3 weeks. Each morning when Alycia wakes up, the first thing that she’ll ask is “where is mah mah?” Starting from Monday, mah mah will not be here anymore. Alycia also tends to stick to my mother, her granny every time we go back to Ipoh. Each time we had to return to KL, she will start to whine and say “i don’t want to go back to KL. I stay here with granny” and will cry big time when it’s time to get into the car. Hopefully tomorrow she will not cry when her mah mah gets into the car.

Snacks Everyday

Each time my mil is back, Alycia and Sherilyn are the happiest. Not only will their mah mah pamper them with gifts, she will also be their life saviour when I scold or cane them. Whenever I cane them, they will act up and cry louder and harder and then run to mah mah for ‘protection’ and solace. Also, mah mah will spoil them with tidbits and snacks everyday. It’s only when their mah mah is here that they get to eat forbidden food like kuih, hawkers’ food, biscuits and cakes. Each day, mah mah will buy them different food to eat. Yesterday, they got a soft cheese cake from mah mah. As for me, each time my mil is back, I will also gain some weight as I will also indulge in the food that she buys. I’ve been indulging in fried koay teow for my mid-afternoon snack with my mil for a few days already. There goes my diet plan!
