Lantern Party

There will be a lantern pot-luck party for kids and parents at Alycia’s pre-school this Friday evening. Kids are to bring battery-operated lanterns and after the party, the kids together with their parents will walk round the neighborhood parading with the lanterns. I know Alycia and Sherilyn will definitely enjoy this party as it will be their first of that kind and I am praying that Alycia gets well in time to attend the party.

Alycia’s Milestone

Alycia can now do letter tracing pretty well. Her strokes and lines are straight and she can write quite fast too. The only thing that she needs improvement in is the order of her strokes. Sometimes she can be quite pigheaded as she doesn’t like to be corrected. When I correct her, she would make a fuss and refuses to follow but sometimes, she’d be like an angel – sweet as she can be. I really hope she will sail through school in future.

This is what Alycia had done in pre-school.

Alycia’s Snacksbox

This is Alycia’s snacksbox. Though her pre-school provides food during snacks time but I don’t like the idea of her feeding on colored cakes, biscuits with cream and color, jellies loaded with sugar and other junks. So I’m willing to sacrifice 15 minutes of my time each morning to make her sandwiches. Yesterday I made her toasted walnut bread with cheese and homemade pineapple jam. Alycia loves it that I cut the sandwiches into triangle wedges. Sometimes she brings organic crackers or cookies and sometimes when I am lazy, I’d just buy some hot-cross potato buns across the bakery for her.

Lost Water Tumbler

Yesterday for the first time, Alycia left her water tumbler behind in school. When she got home, I checked her bag and asked her where her tumbler is. Alycia then said “in my bag.” But when she checked the school bag herself and couldn’t find her tumbler, she burst out crying. She was very upset that she had left her tumbler behind. She cried really pitifully, as if guilty of having done something really wrong. I consoled her and told her that we could get it back from her school tomorrow but no, she was still very upset and continued to bawl. When I couldn’t subdue her, I called her school and asked the principal to look for the tumbler but she said it was no where to be found. She heard the telephone conversation and continued to bawl even harder. I then called daddy and asked him to go to Alycia’s school to search for it, which he did much later but still couldn’t locate it. Long story cut short, Alycia was very upset the whole afternoon and was very edgy. When bed time came at night, she again asked in a cracking voice and teary eyed where her tumbler is. I had to tell a white lie and said that the teachers are still looking for it but if it cannot be found, daddy will buy her a new water tumbler of her choice. That managed to comfort her a tad bit.

This morning as I sent her to school, the teacher happily brought out her lost and found water tumbler. Alycia’s eyes were beeming with joy. I hope she has learnt a lesson and will learn to be responsible of her belongings.

Alycia’s Pre-School

Yesterday morning I walked Alycia to school, together with Sherilyn and my maid so that the gals can get some exercise and a dose of Vitamin D from the morning sun. I also wanted to speak to Alycia’s teachers to probe why she is acting so strangely with all the puking in the morning and defiance when it comes to homework. To my surprise, her teachers told me that Alycia is coping very well in class. She is enthusiastic when it comes to writing and writes well, is always the first few to finish her work and proudly passes her work to her teacher. When asked how her social skills are, the teachers told me that Alycia is a little quiet but nevertheless still talks to her classmates and asks the teachers questions. I was so happy when I heard the remarks but why is she so defiant at home and pukes in the morning after her milk? Yesterday morning, I even made her lesser milk for fear of her puking again and didn’t even brush her teeth as she showed signs of wanting to puke after her milk. When I gave her a spoonful of her favorite fried vegetarian meehoon, she even spat it out. Maybe she’s still feeling a little nervous going to school. And of yes, I almost forgot. When I was about to leave the school with Sherilyn and my maid, Alycia started to cry!

Mandarin Class

I really wanted to find out the root of the reason why Alycia has been puking each morning before she went to school. Yesterday evening I asked Alycia if she liked attending her extra Mandarin class and she told me NO, a BIG NO. Aahhh…… could this could be one of the reasons why she puked as she was trying to avoid attending Mandarin class? Mandarin to her is quite like a foreign language for she only gets to practise conversing in it when my mil stays with us and that’s like 3 times in a year. When I asked her further if she likes her regular classes, she nodded and said yes. She also said she likes her teachers and friends. There is even a fat boy who likes her and keeps tickling her and gives her stickers. So I deduce that Alycia feels stress up when she attends a foreign language class. Maybe I should consider pulling her out from the Mandarin class since I don’t even intend to send her to a chinese medium school in future.

Alycia Puked Again

Today is Alycia’s 4th day of school. This morning, after drinking her bottle of milk, Alycia puked again immediately. This only happens when Alycia has to go to school. Yesterday, she was ok. I think Alycia must have felt very nervous going to school as she is quite a shy girl, especially when she’s with strangers and crowds. I just hope this is only a fleeting phase and that by next week, Alycia would have gotten the hang of it and love going to school.

Alycia 1st Day of School

Yesterday was Alycia’s first day of school after resting for more than 6 months. As expected, she puked after her milk in the morning. This time, I knew instantly that she was actually nervous going to school. When she first woke up in the morning, she pretended to cough. After her milk, she told me that she had tummy ache and acted as if she wanted to puke. Minutes later, she puked in the sink.

My mil and I walked her to school with Sherilyn tagging along as my hubby had to send his car for service. When she was at the school compound, the teachers were surprised to see her back at school. As it was a Monday, the school kids had to sing Negaraku and the school song. When we were about to leave, she was almost in tears as her mah mah was there and she wanted to ‘manja’ her mah mah.
Fast forward to yesterday evening. I told Alycia that she had to do her homework but she gave me a host of excuses like hand pain, very tired, pencil is too big, she needs a plaster for her thumb (which was perfectly fine), etc. I gave her a good lecture and she began to put in some effort and concentration.

Hopefully, Alycia will get used to going to school and having to do homework and I certainly hope that she can pick up from where she left behind. Most of her classmates are way ahead of her. Most importantly, I hope Alycia’s immune system has strengthened and will not fall sick so easily.

Sherilyn, my little social butterfly on the other hand was so excited being at the school. She was happily mingling with the teachers and as we walked her back home, she kept saying she wanted to go to school. Up until today, she kept saying that she wants to go to school. This morning, when she saw daddy bringing Alycia to school, she wept for a good 1 hour as she wanted to follow too. To stop her from wailing, I had to bring her for a short stroll to the sundry shop to buy some eggs. When she came home, Sherilyn was in a bad mood the whole morning and kept asking where Alycia is.

Alycia Going Back To Pre-School

After a 6-month break for Alycia, I have decided to send her back to pre-school tomorrow. She has not fallen sick for more than 1 month now and praying hard that her immune system is stronger now, I hope she will love going to school again and will not fall sick so easily. Going back to school will mean going to bed early, no more playing till almost midnight, waking up at 7:45am, doing homework, having to attend extra Mandarin classes twice a week and more work for me. I will have less computer time in the morning as I have to prepare Alycia’s lunch-box and get her ready for school. I also have to coach her in her homework in the afternoon. I just hope everything will fall neatly and smoothly into place tomorrow and that Alycia will not puke in the morning after her milk. For the first few days when Alycia started pre-school, she puked each morning after her milk. Maybe she wasn’t used to waking up early and maybe she felt a little stressed up having to go to school but I hope that now, Alycia would have outgrown this and will have no problem waking up early and getting ready for school.
