Alycia’s Milestone

Alycia can now do letter tracing pretty well. Her strokes and lines are straight and she can write quite fast too. The only thing that she needs improvement in is the order of her strokes. Sometimes she can be quite pigheaded as she doesn’t like to be corrected. When I correct her, she would make a fuss and refuses to follow but sometimes, she’d be like an angel – sweet as she can be. I really hope she will sail through school in future.

This is what Alycia had done in pre-school.

Alycia Has Mastered The Mouse

I’ve been reading to the gals from the computer almost everyday for the past 2 weeks. Both the gals have shown great interest in mastering the skill of manoeuvering the mouse and pressing on the keyboard. Whilst Sherilyn has learnt to press the Page Down key to change pages, Alycia has mastered the skill of manoeuvering the mouse. I can even leave her alone to read her favorite online books. She now knows how to click on the right arrow key to change pages, click on the Menu tab to return to the index page and click on the book that she has chosen. That’s really a big achievement for her.

Alycia Is A Meat Lover

Alycia my discerning eater loves food. From young, she has always been an easy feeder and has no problem or fuss whenever we fed her porridge. The one food that she hated was cereal (which is the exact opposite of her sister), otherwise, she eats almost everything and has a distinct love for meat of all kinds, especially chicken drumsticks. Several days ago, my mil cooked stewed chicken drumsticks and Alycia was happily savouring the drumsticks. She sucked and licked the bone clean and didn’t seem to get enough of the drumsticks. If only Sherilyn could eat like Alycia, I can then sit peacefully and enjoy my meals.

Alycia Wants Her Diaper!

For the past 2 days, Alycia demanded to have her diapers worn during the afternoon naptime. Since the ‘accident’ a few days ago where she wet the mattress, she seems to have a phobia of not wearing diapers, especially now that we have a brand new mattress as she’s concerned that she might accidentally pee on the new mattress. I tried to convince her that it’s ok to be diaper-free as mummy will be waking her up to bring her to the potty but she insisted on wearing her diaper. This afternoon, she brought her diaper out from the drawer, removed her shorts and begged me to put it on for her! Oh dear, why is she regressing? Is it because of the new mattress or she hates to be woken up to pee on the potty? Maybe tomorrow I should try to stealthily remove the diapers after she has drifted to sleep and then wake her up to pee. Good idea?

Alycia’s Pre-School

Yesterday morning I walked Alycia to school, together with Sherilyn and my maid so that the gals can get some exercise and a dose of Vitamin D from the morning sun. I also wanted to speak to Alycia’s teachers to probe why she is acting so strangely with all the puking in the morning and defiance when it comes to homework. To my surprise, her teachers told me that Alycia is coping very well in class. She is enthusiastic when it comes to writing and writes well, is always the first few to finish her work and proudly passes her work to her teacher. When asked how her social skills are, the teachers told me that Alycia is a little quiet but nevertheless still talks to her classmates and asks the teachers questions. I was so happy when I heard the remarks but why is she so defiant at home and pukes in the morning after her milk? Yesterday morning, I even made her lesser milk for fear of her puking again and didn’t even brush her teeth as she showed signs of wanting to puke after her milk. When I gave her a spoonful of her favorite fried vegetarian meehoon, she even spat it out. Maybe she’s still feeling a little nervous going to school. And of yes, I almost forgot. When I was about to leave the school with Sherilyn and my maid, Alycia started to cry!

Mandarin Class

I really wanted to find out the root of the reason why Alycia has been puking each morning before she went to school. Yesterday evening I asked Alycia if she liked attending her extra Mandarin class and she told me NO, a BIG NO. Aahhh…… could this could be one of the reasons why she puked as she was trying to avoid attending Mandarin class? Mandarin to her is quite like a foreign language for she only gets to practise conversing in it when my mil stays with us and that’s like 3 times in a year. When I asked her further if she likes her regular classes, she nodded and said yes. She also said she likes her teachers and friends. There is even a fat boy who likes her and keeps tickling her and gives her stickers. So I deduce that Alycia feels stress up when she attends a foreign language class. Maybe I should consider pulling her out from the Mandarin class since I don’t even intend to send her to a chinese medium school in future.

Alycia Puked Again

Today is Alycia’s 4th day of school. This morning, after drinking her bottle of milk, Alycia puked again immediately. This only happens when Alycia has to go to school. Yesterday, she was ok. I think Alycia must have felt very nervous going to school as she is quite a shy girl, especially when she’s with strangers and crowds. I just hope this is only a fleeting phase and that by next week, Alycia would have gotten the hang of it and love going to school.

Alycia 1st Day of School

Yesterday was Alycia’s first day of school after resting for more than 6 months. As expected, she puked after her milk in the morning. This time, I knew instantly that she was actually nervous going to school. When she first woke up in the morning, she pretended to cough. After her milk, she told me that she had tummy ache and acted as if she wanted to puke. Minutes later, she puked in the sink.

My mil and I walked her to school with Sherilyn tagging along as my hubby had to send his car for service. When she was at the school compound, the teachers were surprised to see her back at school. As it was a Monday, the school kids had to sing Negaraku and the school song. When we were about to leave, she was almost in tears as her mah mah was there and she wanted to ‘manja’ her mah mah.
Fast forward to yesterday evening. I told Alycia that she had to do her homework but she gave me a host of excuses like hand pain, very tired, pencil is too big, she needs a plaster for her thumb (which was perfectly fine), etc. I gave her a good lecture and she began to put in some effort and concentration.

Hopefully, Alycia will get used to going to school and having to do homework and I certainly hope that she can pick up from where she left behind. Most of her classmates are way ahead of her. Most importantly, I hope Alycia’s immune system has strengthened and will not fall sick so easily.

Sherilyn, my little social butterfly on the other hand was so excited being at the school. She was happily mingling with the teachers and as we walked her back home, she kept saying she wanted to go to school. Up until today, she kept saying that she wants to go to school. This morning, when she saw daddy bringing Alycia to school, she wept for a good 1 hour as she wanted to follow too. To stop her from wailing, I had to bring her for a short stroll to the sundry shop to buy some eggs. When she came home, Sherilyn was in a bad mood the whole morning and kept asking where Alycia is.

Alycia Going Back To Pre-School

After a 6-month break for Alycia, I have decided to send her back to pre-school tomorrow. She has not fallen sick for more than 1 month now and praying hard that her immune system is stronger now, I hope she will love going to school again and will not fall sick so easily. Going back to school will mean going to bed early, no more playing till almost midnight, waking up at 7:45am, doing homework, having to attend extra Mandarin classes twice a week and more work for me. I will have less computer time in the morning as I have to prepare Alycia’s lunch-box and get her ready for school. I also have to coach her in her homework in the afternoon. I just hope everything will fall neatly and smoothly into place tomorrow and that Alycia will not puke in the morning after her milk. For the first few days when Alycia started pre-school, she puked each morning after her milk. Maybe she wasn’t used to waking up early and maybe she felt a little stressed up having to go to school but I hope that now, Alycia would have outgrown this and will have no problem waking up early and getting ready for school.

Alycia Loves Spicy Food

Alycia my discerning eater loves to eat spicy food. Yesterday, my mil bought a packet of fried koay teow, extra spicy and the three of us (mil, Alycia and I) gobbled down the plate of spicy koay teow in just minutes. Though Alycia’s mouth was burning and stinging, she kept asking for more and more and there was no end to her requests. This is not the first time she had shown her ability in eating spicy food. Several times when I had bought chicken curry or chicken rendang, she too demanded to eat the chicken and the spicy gravy despite her mouth stinging with the fiery chilli.

Alycia Is Off Diapers During Nap Time (Part 2)

Today is the third day Alycia is off diapers during her afternoon nap and I must say, both Alycia and I did a good job. When I woke Alycia up to pee an hour later into her nap, she wasn’t cranky but just a tad bit groggy and I had to half carry her up from the mattress on the floor to the potty. After peeing, she went back to sleep without any fuss. She’s now peacefully sleeping on the mattress. I better go and whisper some magical words into her ears now to brainwash her not to pee in her pants….

Alycia Is Off Diapers During Naptime Today

As I was in a good mood this afternoon, I decided to try letting Alycia go diaperless during her afternoon nap. After the naptime story, I asked Alycia if she’d like to sleep without her diaper today. To my surprise, Alycia nodded and said “I don’t want to wear diaper”. I then praised her and put her potty next to the mattress on the floor and told her that if she wants to wee wee, she has to do it on her potty. I also placed a piece of water-proof paper on top of the water-proof plastic mat, just in case of accidents.

An hour later, I woke Alycia up and brought her to pee in her potty. She wasn’t cranky at all but was smiling proudly as I gave her lots of praises, hugs and kisses. An hour later again, as she was still deep in her sleep, I whispered this into her ear “baby, you are not wearing diaper, please don’t wee wee in your pants ok?” to which Alycia nodded with her eyes closed. She woke up half an hour later with her pants still dry! I am so proud of her. Hopefully Alycia will be diaperless too at night real soon. That can save me so much money on her expensive XXL Mamy Poko diapers and XXL Drypers diapers.

My Gals Are Learning BM Fast

Yes they are. Alycia and Sherilyn can understand Bahasa Melayu (BM) pretty well when my maid speaks to them in BM. They can also speak a smattering of BM :

I tak mau (I don’t want)
Mana (where)
Makan (eat)
Kencing (wee wee)
Berak (poo poo)
Buang (throw)
Simpan (keep)
Minum (drink)
Balik (come home)
Kasut (shoes)
Pergi (go)
Kucing (cat)
Kotor (dirty)
Mau banyak (want a lot)
Duduk sini (sit here)
Kakak you cari for me (kakak you find for me)
Learning to count satu, dua, tiga (one, two, three, etc.)………. in BM
and much more but that’s all I can think of now.

When our new maid arrives in December, hopefully the gals will be able to converse with her in simple BM whilst I teach the new maid some simple English.

I Love The Smell Of Your Arm

Several nights ago, I was reading some flash cards to Alycia. These are alphabet flash cards with pictures on one side and the description of the object with a list of questions and answers on the flip side. When I came to the letter ‘N’ for nose, I asked Alycia what are some of the smells she likes and as she buried her little nose onto my arm and hugged it at the same time, she said “uummm….. I like the smell of your arm because it smells nice”. My heart melted!

You’re A Crazy Woman and A Fatty Bom Bom

Yesterday was a Friday and being a pasar malam day at our housing estate, hubby bought me my favorite fruit, durian again. Oh how I love durian. I can eat them for a few days straight without getting sick of them, apart from getting a buldge in my tummy. So when he brought home the durians in the evening, I quickly opened the styrofoam lunch boxes and gobbled down a few seeds of durian. When Alycia saw me eating…

Alycia : Mummy, why are you eating durian? It’s dinner time already.

I just gave Alycia a smile and continued guzzling my durians.

Alycia : Mummy, it’s dinner time already, why are you eating so much durian…….hey, you are a crazy woman, really crazy and a fatty bom bom too.

I was shocked to hear Alycia say that to me. She must have picked this up from me when I said those words in the past.

Moral of the story is watch your words when your kids are around you. They are absorbing everything they hear like a dry thick sponge and will spill out those words at a time when you least expect them to.

Tracing On Doodle

Alycia loves drawing and tracing on her Fisher Price doodle. Each morning as Alycia and Sherilyn eat their breakfast, they have a habit of either scribbling on their doodle or have me or my maid read to them or play jigsaw puzzle on the floor or dining table. Learning to scribble and doodle on the Doodle Pro has definitely helped improve Alycia’s and Sherilyn’s fine motor skills and that’s one of the best toys I’d bought them. Best of all, the gals never seem to get bored with it.
