Maidless At Home

When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. After months of drumming into their little heads that after kakak leaves, everyone will have their fair share of own chores, the actual scene swung into action since 2 days ago. Cass and Sherilyn are in charged of folding the clothes and keeping them into the respective drawers. Alycia’s been delegated to clean the dining table, clean her own desk and bedroom floor and be my PA!  I will be the chief maid. Yesterday I even delegated Alycia the task of bathing Cass and helping her baby sister brush teeth. Despite all the pent-up stress in me, I had to ROTFL when I saw Alycia bathing Cass and hearing the silly laughter and chatter from the 2 sisters.

I quickly fished out my camera and began snapping the pix to which I was being yelled at by Alycia : “MUMMY, DON’T put this picture in your Facebook! Can put in blog but not in Facebook OK! I look horrible here!” LOL!! That’s because a few days ago, while the girls were using my laptop, they logged into my Facebook account and Alycia added her classmate using my FB account! Now, her classmate has access to all my FB pix.

The downside of roping my girls in the housework is that they have to lax in their homework and studies and this is something which I feel really bad about. I will have to draw out a better plan. Or does anyone has a better plan that works in such that my girls can help out at home and yet not neglect their studies?

  1. The fact that the girls are doing their jobs is very applaudable!

Psst Alycia, pics in FB are more restricted than pics in blogs u know.. ur friends can just read ur mommy’s blog and see your pic HERE! Haha.. *jahat me*

  2. My kids are chore deprived. They think that doing chores is a lot of fun so everyday they beg to do chores. lol. Mommy takes advantage of this by making them hang and fold clothes, sweep and mop the floor, cook rice and wash the dishes, wash shoes etc.

  3. I think it’s good time management skills to make them do housework. Dont worry about them being lax in their school work. This would make them more efficient and teach them to prioritise what is important in their daily schedules 🙂 !

  4. Some chores are good because it’s a kind of exercise for them? I am sure you’d be able to judge if they get too physically exhausted to concentrate on schoolwork.

Mmm…actually, I wouldn’t post any pics of little girls in half-dressed states anywhere! You really don’t know who is reading your blog or sharing your FB pics…

  5. Shireen, the girls are just fantastic isn’t it? They do learn when they do housework. It is life learning and they will have to learn to manage their time. They will learn lots of life skill, knowing how to adjust, how to estimate, use their brain even more managing themselves on each simple task they do. I feel the same too so I just got to tell myself, study or academic achievement isn’t everything. So dont be too hard on yourself ya:)

  6. My girls were trained to wash their own white shoes, clean up the study desk and floor each time after used. Other than these 2 jobs, they do nothing already. In fact, it is good to give them some responsibility to help you in the house chores.

  7. Nice to see everyone agrees on housework! It will make them feel better about themselves. I am sure they don’t have to do this more than an hour a day, so there should be time for homework and TV. And don’t forget to reward them; could be a point system(to be traded in for books, shopping etc), or a trip for ice-cream etc.

  8. U’ve got 3 wonderful helpers at home. As long as u dun expect too much (clothes not folded perfectly, floors not swept super clean, etc), they can lift off a big chunk of ur burden. And b4 u know it, ur maid wud be back with u.

  9. good that the girls are willing to help out! It is good to involved them in chores. They will know how to divide their time. Humans are flexible. haha

  10. I think it’s great that you are teaching your kids responsibility and I’m sure they will do fine with homework – less time to dilly-dally. Keep up the good work – you’re an inspiration to many mums! =)
