Just got back from a 3-day 2-nite trip in Malacca. I think that will be our last time traveling to Malacca during peak period. It is now the school holidays, Xmas + year end holiday for many locals as well as for many overseas tourists. The whole of Malacca town was jam packed. People were everywhere. Malacca was a sea of people and cars. Public toilets were filthy and wet, including the one at Equatorial Hotel lobby. Prices of everything shot up sky high. It took us over 3 hours to reach Equatorial Hotel in Malacca from KL, the hotel where we stayed in. As all the eateries were packed to the brim, we had McDonald’s on arrival… at 3pm! That night we wanted to go to Portugese Settlement for grilled fish as recommended by Chin Nee but the traffic leading to PS was horrid. Cars were lining up to go in but they were not moving… so we made a U-turn and headed to another eatery to eat. Thank goodness we could find a table and have our dinner at 9pm! On the 2nd night, we were just too scared to go out for dinner, lest we get caught for hours in the car again. So we had room service – food delivered to our room haha!
Taken at A Famosa – a place that’s rich in history
Jonker Street… another place that’s filled with people and vehicle at every space and corner when we were there.
Our dinner on the 2nd and last night – food delivered to our hotel room! What a way to spend our holiday in Malacca. Before the trip, we had planned what to eat and where to eat and were all so excited but we ended up eating McD and the terrible Western food in our hotel room! But on a more positive note, since I could not feast on fattening Nyonya food like I had imagined I would before the trip, thus I did not gain an ounce in weight, though I did not exercise for 2 days 😀

mm… portugese settlement black pepper crab – hubs’ fav…. flying back soon …. 🙂
find a normal weekend, you will enjoy melaka more …
oopp.. forgot to answer your q on pandan leaves – we bought a few pots of pandan leaves via ebay and they are currently sitting on window sill, enjoying some heater …
CL… OMG, you even bought pandan plants from eBay?! Hmmm, maybe I should switch job by selling potted plants… overseas people like you will surely buy them when they are desperate haha!
oh poor you. Malacca is definitely not a place to go during festive season. Its roads are narrow and can’t cope with the traffic. Never mind…go again next year. School holidays are still packed but not as packed as when school holidays and public holidays combined.
Hehe…sorry this trip was a big let down for all. However famous eateries are not spared either during “normal” weekends. Hence, when we wanna eat out at all those famous places esp in jonker street’s chicken rice ball, hub will take another day off on monday when everyone has start working already. For Nyonya restaurant, i suppose you can call in to make a table booking upfront before you go next time. Otherwise there will surely be some queue because many actually just drive down from KL to eat, and then comes back. Its that crazy now eating in Melaka, hehe…
Was there last year on a weekday…it was busy! I think Jonker St is over-rated, but we had a good Nonya meal at one of the side street. I think it is named Nancy or that is the name of the owner. And the chicken rice ball is not worth the drive from KL!
