I got a major shock of my life today when I read a note, written in brown magic color ink which I had snatched away from my almost 8-YO girl today. It was a love note written by one Danny from her class, which goes:
Dear Sweetie Pie
I love you. When I grow up I want to marry you and have a baby with you. Will you marry me?
Love, Danny.
Can you beat it that an 8-YO boy can write such mushy stuff? Even my hubs (boyfriend then) did not write such a line to me to sweep me off my feet 20 years ago. Or maybe he did and I had forgotten? Nah, I don’t think he would write such stuff.
The moment when I had forcefully snatched the note away from my almost 8-yo girl (which tore into 2 pieces… and which had me frantically joining back the note to inspect each and every word there was in it), I was beginning to wonder what would happen to my girls a few years down the road. After much interrogation, she finally told me that the note was from Danny to Sherilyn. And no, Sherilyn and Daddy do not know each other. Apparently, Danny gave Alycia an Animal Kaiser card, to which Alycia gave it to Sherilyn… which made her so happy that she said “I love Danny”... to which Alycia conveyed the message to Danny the next day… which got this 8-YO boy head over heels upon hearing the words… which got him to write the mushy love note, LOL!!! And Alycia was so worried that she begged me not to tell this to her daddy. Kids oh kids, they are really funny and naive.

my elder girl received her 1st ‘love letter’ during her kindy days too. the boy asked his little sister to pass it to her. so funny.. so young then, but could already write all the mushy-mushy stuff. they r now in their teens – still friends but different school – he’s doing well in school too – 1 of the top students leh. make sure u dont over-react.. otherwise, they will not share with u their ‘love stories’ in future lor 🙂
btw, now my younger girl receives her ‘love letters’ via her facebook – published openly to all.. lol.
Shin, kids these days are so different from kids our time. Wah, 6YO already knew how to write love letters?? How did they know what love letter is anyway? LOL!
What is even more impressive is an 8 yr old can write so well and put thought to paper! Plus the cute factor! It’s good you didn’t over-react. Best to play it cool and let things just go its natural course.
Yeah! They are cute and funny.
wow! i would be worried too if my girls received such letters. i wonder if the boy knows what it means “to have a baby with you” LOL!
but it is funny though to see such innocence! what did daddy say? 😉
“..having a baby with YOU?” …my goodness!!!!
u really went to snatch it from your girl and tore it up? So did u tell yur hub and did he say anything? quickly update ler..can’t wait to hear what your hub says but if it is my hub, he wud be super furious and give my girl a LONG LECTURE!
Chin Nee, I think the boy must have read this very common love line from some books or TV program. I will tell the hubs today but I know he will probably laugh it off LOL!
how should we ( as a parent ) handle if our little kids receive love letters like this ?
lol!! kids nowsaday are really matured very early… to have a baby with you?!
haha he can label her as sweetie pie tim, his writing skill not bad wor. Well nowadays man won’t write love letter, some even lazy to text also, they prefer call or meet up.
sweetie pie? love? marry? baby? Oh dear… I am now getting very worried, particularly with QQ, as she’s very vain at times. I’m contemplating not to send her to a co-ed Chinese school as planned, but to convent when she’s 7 🙁
