She may look girlish, is soft-spoken, speaks politely to her teachers and to the elders, demure and very pretty but this girl likes nothing girlish – no Hello Kitty or Princess, no pink, no frills, no sexy frocks, no pretty sandals, NO! She is the exact opposite of Sherilyn. What she likes are toys for boys, sigh! Her latest craze, besides Bey Blade is Animal Kaiser cards, where each card has a picture of an ugly creature or animal. And each creature is given a rating. The higher the rating, the more powerful the creature / card is. And she is besotted with these cards, which she can buy from those small kiosks at shopping malls and from indoor theme parks. Daddy the ever yes-man and indulgent daddy bought them for her. She also likes playing the game ‘Plants vs. Zombies’ on the laptop *double sigh*!! My blogger friend recently told me that her 8yo boy likes girl’s stuff and asked for pink tees and a Barbie birthday cake! Is this normal for kids of this age to be ‘neither here nor there’?? I hope she will get over this tomboy phase soon!

All kids do go thru phases; I did too, when I was maybe 10 or 11. Mum has kept pics of me in short short hair and goofy glasses, and in my fave brown corduroy jeans! My friend’s son loved pink, so that was the colour of his backpack and his winter jacket when he was in Grade One. The important thing is to accept the child in her choice, don’t ever put her down, and make sure she does not get bullied in school or elsewhere. Schools here have a “Pink day” every year where every student wears pink; this stemmed when a bullying accident a few years ago where a little boy was beat up for wearing pink.
I saw this and thought you may be able to help to spread the word through your website (the family does have other young child(ren), as your site has quite a few traffic or may be able to personally help, as precious Cassandra have been through some challenges during her younger days. No help is too small.
