Sherilyn my #2 always likes to be different from the rest. Lately, most of the time she will not eat anything that I give her unless she chooses them and takes them herself.  She wants to exercise her independence and freedom and does not want mummy to decide for her. She even wants to exercise her own freedom to choose her own clothes and just about anything without me or anyone deciding for her!Â
Last week when we were in Ipoh, she refused to eat her hardboiled egg for breakfast. No amount of coaxing and bribes would make her eat her egg.  Instead, she wanted her egg to be different. This is how she wanted her hard boiled egg eaten :
…. crackers broken up into pieces and sprinkled on top of her egg … and then topped it up with lots of olive butter and some soya sauce. What a creation! But this managed to make my brat finish off the egg!

try to give her only 2 choices, like, “do you want egg or crackers?” that way she still gets to make her own decision. With my ziyi also the same, she wants to choose and wear her own clothes. So most of the time i’ll choose 2 outfit that i like and ask her to choose. hehe.. she was happy she gets to choose, and i am also happy. win win situation. I got this tips from “THE Baby & Child QUESTION & ANSWER” by Dr Carol Cooper p.170.
but it looks yummy 😀 btw, may i know where you bought the olive butter?
haha…she making her own recipe eh 😛
All kids will go thru this stage…and we as parents have to put up with it! It’s a good sign tho to be independent….ok, maybe not when my dtr put on green camouflage pants with a royal blue T-shirt and went out for a family dinner! Most people are understanding and will likely praise her for her “taste” in clothes/shoes/food etc, and ; at u!
Also, since she is asserting herself more, she can also participate in cleaning up/putting dirty clothes in the laundry/putting clean laundry away etc. Then, shower her with all sorts of praise and keep encouraging this behaviour! She’s on the right track!
Barb… you can get that Olive butter from most supermarkets. They are quite costly though.
I think it’s good that she has a mind of her own and doesn’t conform 🙂
