I have been doing revision with Alycia since Friday last week to prepare her for her pre-school exam for 5 year olds this week. It ain’t easy coaching her as her mind tends to wander off somewhere else except to her books…..to the TV, to food or to the bed! Sherilyn my brat would also be asking me tons of questions to get my attention, not to mention having to carry Baby C with my left hand and hold a pencil with my right hand.
Anyway, I find that Alycia and Sher’s pre-school has quite a tough syllabus for pre-schoolers. I really don’t remember learning all those things when I was 5 yo or even 6 yo and attended kindy. And yet I turned out ok now! Maybe most pre-schools these days are very competitive and have to raise the standard of their syllabus to entice kiasu parents… eerm like me?
I was teaching Alycia synonyms and antonyms, common nouns, proper nouns, punctuation marks and other things meant for Primary 1 and 2 kids! I doubt she remembered everything that I revised with her. Even I would forget. Her Bahasa Malaysia is not easier either and they have been learning simpulan bahasa, kata kerja, kata tanya, antonim, sinonim, penjodoh bilangan and much more. Not only is she feeling the stress, I am also feeling the stress and anxiety for her.
I wonder how Alycia fared in her English and Bahasa Malaysia test today.

really tough!! i don’t remember doing all this at all during my kindy years.
these are kindy books? O M G 🙁
Aiyoyo. Gotto learn about proper nouns etc wan ah. I don’t know my nouns but I think my English ok kua. Hahaha.
oh.. that’s quite tough ya for kindy standard? All the best to them 🙂
Aly n Sher’s kindy definitely has a tougher syllabus compared to XY’s (montessori).
It’s true that pre-schools and kindergartens nowadays put a lot of stress on the kids. My motto is always to let the kids enjoy themselves first and foremost. But what to do…..
gosh… i don’t remember doing all those too. even in primary..wakakakakakaakakakakakakakak!! I musta blanked out everything!
Aiyoh. So tough meh ar. I don’t remember learning this while in pre-school. All I remembered in pre-school was singing, running around, falling down, crying, jumping, falling down, crying and running around. It’s definitely getting much tougher on our children. Now, they have tonnes of homework, attend tuition one after another on top of their extracurriculum activities. I remembered my extracurriculum everyday after school is guli, gasing and layang-layang! Those were days…sigh
I pengsan, thats the standard now. I wonder how in few years later…kindy got to study soooo many…ours time only ABC and colours. Really we are in stress too when seeing them need to study so much…
btw, I have a tag for you – http://judychow.blogspot.com/2008/10/pink-sisterhood.html
Wow! What school does A go to? Looks pretty advanced! But you know what? The landscape of education has also changed in Malaysia and they have made it really tough on these kids. I feel really sorry for them and unfortunately, it is still a lot of work and not much thinking involved. I have been studying the syllabus of Primary One, local Government schools, private schools and International schools. All I can say is *sigh*………………..
