Celebrating Haru’s 4th Birthday: Our Pandemic Cat Turns Four!

Last December marked a special milestone for our beloved feline companion, Haru, as she celebrated her 4th birthday. Haru’s journey with us began at the start of 2021, just days after she was born around late December 2020. Discovered by my husband outside his office on January 2nd, 2022, Haru came into our lives during one of the most challenging periods of the pandemic. She and her siblings were tiny symbols of hope, but it was Haru who stayed and filled our home with joy, laughter, and unconditional love.

The Kitty Who Brightened Dark Times

Haru is more than just a pet; she is a source of comfort and cheer. During the darkest moments of the pandemic, her playful antics, soft purrs, and ever-curious nature helped us cope with the isolation and uncertainty. She reminded us to find happiness in small things and provided a sense of routine when life felt so unpredictable. Even now, Haru continues to bring sunshine into our lives with her endearing personality and quirky habits.

A Special Birthday Tradition

Every year, no matter how busy her schedule gets, Sherilyn makes it a point to prepare a little birthday ‘cake’ for Haru on 31st December each year. It’s a delightful tradition that Haru seems to enjoy as much as we do! This ‘cake’ isn’t your typical sugary confection. Instead, it’s a carefully crafted blend of Haru’s favorite foods: roast chicken breast, fish, fried egg yolk (cooked without oil), and her trusty kibbles. These ingredients are molded together in a cupcake paper cup, forming a gourmet treat fit for our special girl.

This year was no different. When Sherilyn presented Haru with her birthday ‘cake,’ her eyes lit up with curiosity and excitement. We gave her half of the ‘cake’ as a treat during the day and saved the other half for her dinner. Watching her nibble away with delight was a heartwarming moment, a simple yet meaningful celebration of the love and bond we share with her.

Gratitude and Wishes for Haru

As we celebrated Haru’s 4th birthday, we couldn’t help but feel immense gratitude for this little furball who has enriched our lives in countless ways. We thank God for bringing her into our family and pray for her continued health and happiness. Haru has been a blessing to us, she’s a member of our family and a reminder of resilience and joy, and we hope to have many more years of companionship with her.

I bought Haru a new astronaut backpack to bring her around, especially to the vet and for our trip back to Ipoh for CNY end January.

Haru doesn’t seem to like the bag though, maybe because of the new bag odor and not being comfy inside the squeezy bag.

The Impact of Lifestyle Factors on Joint Health: A Deeper Dive

Joint health is a vital component of maintaining an active and fulfilling lifestyle. Whether you’re an avid runner, a weekend hiker, or enjoy occasional walks, your joints play a critical role in enabling smooth, pain-free movement. They are the hinges and pivots of our physical bodies, vital for almost every activity. With healthy joints, even essential everyday tasks such as walking up stairs, bending to pick something off the floor, or reaching for an item on a high shelf can become a challenge. For those seeking professional guidance, exploring resources like https://occ-ortho.com/ can provide valuable insights into maintaining joint health and addressing any issues.

This article examines joint health and offers suggestions for keeping joints flexible and powerful. It highlights the value of consistent exercise and dietary practices for long-lasting joints. Setting these areas as a top priority lowers the chance of pain or injury while ensuring long-term mobility and comfort.

Introduction to Joint Health

Joints are essential bodily parts that join bones, allow mobility, and offer mechanical support. Ligaments, synovial fluid, and cartilage cushion them. Joint health impacts mobility and quality of life, especially for active individuals. Regular physical activities can stress joints, requiring joint health. Focusing on joint health can lead to pain-free movement, reduce joint degeneration risk, and maintain an active lifestyle into old age.

Understanding Joint Anatomy

Understanding the anatomy of joints is essential to adopting better care practices. Joints are constructed of various components that work harmoniously to provide stability and flexibility. These include bones, which form the structure; cartilage, a smooth, protective layer that reduces friction; and synovial fluid, which lubricates the joint. Additionally, ligaments and tendons help support the joint and facilitate movement. There are several types of joints in the body, each with specific functions and ranges of motion. For instance, hinge joints like the knees and elbows allow for bending motions, while ball-and-socket joints like the hips and shoulders enable a wider range of movements.

The Importance of Physical Activity

Being physically active is essential for preserving joint health. Regular exercise helps keep joints flexible, strengthens the muscles that support them, and reduces the risk of joint stiffness and pain. Engaging in joint-friendly activities such as swimming, cycling, and yoga can provide cardiovascular benefits without placing excessive strain on the joints. These low-impact exercises also enhance muscle endurance and joint stability. Moreover, weight-bearing exercises can improve bone density and joint function when done correctly. Ensuring a balanced approach that includes both strength and flexibility training is crucial. It’s important to choose activities suitable for your current fitness level and to progress gradually to avoid injury.

Common Joint Issues and Their Causes

Joint issues can significantly affect one’s quality of life, causing discomfort, reduced mobility, and chronic pain. Arthritis, a common joint condition, is characterized by inflammation of joints. Other joint issues include bursitis, where bursae become inflamed, and tendonitis, caused by overuse of tendons. Age, genetics, and lifestyle choices exacerbate these conditions, making early preventative measures crucial.

Strategies for Maintaining Joint Health

Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for reducing joint strain, especially in the lower body, like the knees and hips. Extra weight increases pressure on these joints, leading to wear and tear. Frequent exercise, such as strength and aerobic training, can help maintain joint function and control weight. Proper ergonomic practices, such as correct posture and body mechanics, can prevent joint injuries. Incorporating stretching and flexibility exercises can promote flexibility and reduce tension.

Throwback Sunday, 29 December 2024

It was the eve of hubby’s birthday, and he decided to treat us to a lovely brunch at Bröom @ Bukit Bintang. Six of us were present, including his aunt Susan from Ipoh, who was visiting. Only Cass wasn’t able to join us, as she was busy at the skating rink.

Cass has become very dedicated to her figure skating routine, spending her Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays on the ice. She’s also built a close-knit group of friends from her skating community. They sometimes have lunch together after practice and go on outings. During the recent school holidays, they visited a cat cafe and the Farm Fresh farm in Seri Kembangan, creating wonderful memories outside the rink.

Back to our brunch at Broom—hubby, as usual, went all out with his orders. We had a delightful spread of main meals, desserts, and aromatic coffee. The food was fantastic, and we thoroughly enjoyed the time spent together, chatting and savoring every bite.

After brunch, hubby made a stop at Petaling Street to pick up some dried food stuff for his kitchen. While browsing the shop, I stumbled upon my favorite Choy Heong Yuen almond cookies from Macau. They were priced at only RM51 a tin, a fantastic deal compared to RM60 on Shopee and RM69 on Lazada. Without hesitation, I grabbed two tins—one for us and another for my parents in Ipoh. I was so happy to replenish my favorite treat at such a good price!

Sherilyn who was on a short year-end break was finally able to join us for brunch, after a long hiatus as she’s been perpetually swamped with back-to-back assignments.
All of hubby’s favorite pastries and tarts. I’m not a big fan of these sweet desserts though.
The fish & chips were served in a cute little basket.

Hubby’s all-time favorite breakfast – something as simple as toasted sourdough with butter and two sunny side up eggs.
Sarawak curry laksa.
Seafood pasta.

Some Malay rice served with chicken rendang and acar.

Housed in a pre-war building and aesthetically renovated. If you look carefully, there’s a digital water curtain waterfall hanging on the wall on the left.

Something that every architecture student does – taking photos of aesthetically designed buildings for reference.
