Embracing Wellness: My Journey Into Iyengar Yoga

Embarking on a journey toward wellness is often a step-by-step process, and for me, joining a yoga class has long been a dream waiting to be realized. After years of contemplation, last Thursday marked a significant milestone as I finally took the plunge and attended my trial class for Iyengar yoga. It was a moment of fulfillment, ticking off a cherished item from my bucket list.

My initial intention was to explore flow yoga, drawn to its dynamic movements and graceful transitions. However, timing and logistical challenges such as parking woes and traffic congestion led me to reconsider, ultimately opting for Iyengar yoga, which offered morning classes in a more accessible location with ample parking spaces.

Iyengar yoga, a form of hatha yoga, focuses on precise alignment and technique, emphasizing quality over quantity in each movement. Through slow, deliberate poses and controlled breathing, I discovered a practice that not only strengthens the body but also cultivates flexibility and improves posture.

During my trial class, I experienced firsthand the benefits of Iyengar yoga as my muscles were gently stretched and strengthened. The following day, I welcomed the pleasant ache in my muscles—a sign of progress and growth within my practice.

I opted for walk-in classes as this allows me the flexibility to attend sessions according to my schedule, albeit at a slightly higher fee of RM40 per session. While committing to weekly classes may be challenging, I am committed to prioritizing my well-being by making time for yoga whenever possible.

As I eagerly anticipate my second class tomorrow—a paid session—I reflect on the sense of accomplishment that accompanies each step forward in my wellness journey. Yoga has become more than just a physical practice; it’s a path toward holistic well-being and self-discovery.

And as I continue to explore the depths of yoga, another item on my bucket list is on the brink of becoming a reality—an overseas holiday. While details remain under wraps until my passport renewal is complete, the anticipation of embarking on this adventure fills me with excitement and anticipation.

Brunch after yoga at Sixteen with hubby. I ordered a sweet corn fritters plate with smoked salmon, salad and poached egg.

Hubby ordered his usual set – toasted sourdough bread with scrambled eggs and butter.
