5 NOV 2021 ~ HARU’S POST SPAY SURGERY – DAY 3

Haru’s appetite is getting better each day. But I’m going easy on feeding her too much, lest she throws up. She really loves the wet kitten food from Royal Canin. Though double the price of her usual wet food, it’s worth the price. I gave her half a sachet in the morning, a quarter in the afternoon and another half a sachet at night. She ate her food with much gusto without any coaxing. It must be the gravy that’s very appetizing. I added quite a bit of water into her food so that she’ll lap up more fluids. This kitty only drinks water if it’s added to her food and from the milk bottle.

Upon waking up this morning, I saw the post-op onesie and her surgical plaster removed. Haru’s a clean freak. I noticed that she would only remove the onesie by wriggling out of it (it’s a little big) when she needs to pee and poop. Smart cat, right?! Other than that, she’s fine with wearing the onesie. I’m only worried that she will lick her wound and tear off the sutures! That would be horror. I pray that Haru won’t do that.

Sleeping almost the entire day. The weather has been very cooling for the past two days due to wet weather. Haru’s ears were very cold today and we put a thin blanket on her to keep her warm.

4 Nov 2021 ~ Haru’s Post Spay Surgery – Day 2

Yesterday was depressing. Haru was listless and had not much appetite. There were times that she lay so still in the cage that we thought she had died. We had to call out Haru’s name several times and stroke her to see if she was just asleep or passed out. We were all very worried if she would make it or not.

The vet must have been pissed with my non-stop Whatsapp to him, asking him tons of questions. Pardon this first time cat mom here. It was the eve of Deepavali and he must have been having a reunion dinner with his family. But he replied most of my messages.

This morning I had a pleasant surprise when I woke up and checked on Haru. Haru was already awake and was sitting up in her cage. She let out her usual ‘meow’ upon seeing me, which is her way of greeting me and asking to be let out of the cage for breakfast. That was the best sound I heard today, like music to my ears, albeit her meows were weak and faint. Haru’s usual meows are deafening, persistent and annoying. But this time, I was really happy to hear her meow. I was super duper happy to finally see some semblance of our pre-surgery Haru. This tough cookie is finally back!

Haru’s appetite today has been good. However, I only gave her half the portion of what I would usually feed her. She had vomited twice after the surgery and couldn’t hold down any food. I also bought her a more expensive and better quality of wet food for kitten (Royal Canin), which costs almost triple the price of her usual wet food. I want her to have better nutrition during her convalescence period. I also bought a pack of tofu litter to minimize risk of infection to her wound. Tofu litter costs double or triple more than regular bentonite cat litter.

Like a fragile newborn baby. Her sisters and I have been extra careful with Haru when carrying and handling her, just like a precious newborn baby.

Waist Training For A Smaller Waist

Everyone knows who Kim Kardashian is – the billionaire with the signature cinched-in waist. Thanks to Kim, the world is aware of what waist trainers are and the signature “snatched-waist” they promise to deliver. Kim Kardashian even has her own shapewear line.

Waist training is not something new in the market. They are basically similar with contraptions that women wore more than 100 years ago, except now these devices come in trendy prints, are more comfortable and have better features.

Waist trainers are made of thick fabric and hard metal boning. They are available in many sizes, from extra small to plus size waist trainer for women with different types of body shape.  Waist trainers are placed around the midsection and cinched down using a lacing system.  To get a smaller waist and hourglass figure, waist training requires the wearer to wear the device consistently for months, to mold the body into the desired shape.

Your waist will appear smaller while wearing the waist trainer but once you remove it, you may notice less of a difference in your waistline.

A waist trainer can have some short-term benefits, like improving posture, as it forces you to sit and stand up straight.

A waist trainer can also encourage proper lifting technique [with weights or heavy objects] due to its rigid nature.

For those with a huge appetite and have a habit of overeating, wearing a waist trainer during meals will make you feel full faster, as it squeezes and puts pressure on your stomach. Therefore, you might end up losing weight from eating less overall.

The best waist trainer is meant to give you a thinner looking waist on a short term basis. It’s a quick fix to having a smaller waist and curvier body. The best way to lose weight or inches from around the waist permanently is through a healthful diet and regular exercise.

Waist training can cause difficulty in breathing to some people. A person may not get enough oxygen or become easily winded. For this reason, they should not wear a corset or waist trainer during exercise.

If a person feels lightheaded or short of breath, they should remove the waist trainer immediately.

Always remember to choose waist trainers that fit you well, as being comfortable and relaxed is equally important as achieving that svelte look.  Check out the Black Friday waist trainer sales on Shapellx now to get the best deals!

2 November 2021 ¬ Haru’s Spay Surgery

Sherilyn and Cass insisted on following me to to the vet’s, though Cass only had half an hour of break before her next online class. We dropped off Haru at around 12.15 pm and by 2 pm, the vet’s daughter called me to inform me that Haru’s ready to be picked up from the clinic.

As usual, Haru hissed the moment she reached the clinic. She even tried to run away the moment she saw her carrier when we took it out from the storeroom. The carrier is always associated with pain. And the spay surgery must have traumatized her so much that after the surgery, she was extremely aggressive to everyone.

When we took her out of the carrier on reaching home, Haru appeared to be disoriented. Her eyes were glassy/watery and her pupils dilated. She sounded very different – from trauma and fear. She growled at us non-stop, like a feral animal. I think she could not even see us clearly nor recognize us. I placed her in her scratch board box and lined it with some cloths. But Haru was still trembling (side effect of the anesthetic) and very traumatized. About half an hour later, she suddenly jumped out of the box and landed on the floor. My heart landed on the floor with her too! She was hysterical, growling and trying to run away. She was trying to wriggle her way out of her post-op onesie (which she hates) and her leg got stuck. She was really hysterical. Cass tried to release Haru’s leg and in the process, got bitten really hard on her right hand!

Cass’ hand was bleeding badly. That night, Cass couldn’t sleep. She woke up at 3 am to apply ice on her hand as she felt as if blood was boiling under the skin of her hand. The next morning, I immediately brought Cass to a nearby clinic. The doctor told us that animal bites are serious, especially if they are from stray animals. Thankfully Haru has completed all her vaccines, including the one for rabies.

The doctor did a wound irrigation on Cass’ wounds by injecting the bite marks/holes with Dermacyn® WoundCare, a super-oxidized solution intended for use in the debridement, irrigation and moistening of acute and chronic wounds, ulcers, cuts, abrasions and burns. The procedure looked extremely painful and bloody as blood was oozing out of the holes when the doctor injected Dermacyn. The doctor asked Cass if it was painful and she nodded. But our tough cookie was calm as usual. She has gone through umpteen procedures a million times more painful than this since birth.

Aside from a wound irrigation, Cass is prescribed with antibiotics and anti-inflammation medicine. Haru is also given antibiotics and anti-inflammation tablets. Now I have 2 babies having to take similar meds until Sunday. Thankfully I have Sherilyn to feed Haru the meds. She’s really good at feeding Haru meds and cutting Haru’s sharp nails, something which I suck at.

Today Haru is less aggressive and doesn’t snarl and hiss at us like a dog and serpent anymore. But she’s still very weak and has been sleeping almost all day. She threw up after eating just one kibble last night. This morning, Sherilyn gave Haru a few shreds of boiled chicken and a few kibbles while I was at the clinic with Cass. But an hour later, Haru threw up again.

Haru’s appetite seemed to have come back late in the evening today. We fed her a teeny bit of kibbles, which she ate from our palm and force fed her water using a syringe, which I bought from the pharmacy this morning.

It breaks my heart to see Haru feeling so listless. She’s always been a very active cat and extremely intelligent. I call her a human trapped in a cat’s body. Seeing her lie down in her cage with her eyes closed and struggling to walk just crushes me.

Sometimes I think that spaying / neutering an animal is such a cruel thing to do. I’d gone through many surgeries on my abdomen and therefore know how painful it is. Haru is such a healthy and active cat and having her uterus and ovaries removed seems like so wrong. But I know that the pros outweigh the cons. Haru will no longer have to suffer every month and will also have lesser risk of certain cancers. Soon, she will be a happy cat again.

I can’t wait to see Haru back to her normal self again.

First few minutes on returning home from the vet after the spay surgery. And feeling disoriented and aggressive.
Cass comforting Haru while attending Math online tuition.
In a daze and wondering where she is and why she sees everything upside down.
Post surgery day 1. Still groggy from the anesthetic. Haru wriggled out of her post-op onesie. Today she tried to pull off the plaster with her mouth. Sherilyn managed to put the onesie back on Haru and again she wriggled out of it.
Wound irrigation.

Can you imagine how stressed out I was since yesterday? And my weight dropped further caused by all these stressors. I’m now 41.1kg and if I am faced with more stressful situations, I will be 40+ kg! Stressful days always make me lose weight effortlessly.

Good news is I now have some allowances to eat more to plump myself up again. I put on weight pretty easily too 😁.

How To Increase Your Exercise Levels

group of women doing yoga

Are you looking to increase the amount of exercise that you do each week? Whether you are looking to start exercising properly, starting a new regime, or simply looking to up your game, you are sure to be excited but also daunted by the idea of exercising more. Exercise will bring a range of benefits to your life, but it can also be difficult to stay motivated and achieve your goals, particularly when you have kids and other responsibilities to manage. With this in mind, here are a few tips for increasing exercise that will hopefully help you and get you moving.

Create A Schedule

It can be very easy to blow off exercise when you do not have it in your schedule. This is why you should create a schedule for each week and then fit other less important responsibilities around the exercise that you have planned.

Start Off Slow

One of the biggest mistakes that people make is overdoing it in the first few weeks, which then causes people to feel exhausted and give up. Instead, you need to start slowly and gradually work your way up. Not only will this be easier to manage, but it will also be rewarding when you look back and see how much progress you have made.

Find Exercise That You Enjoy

It is hard to stay motivated and exercise regularly if you dread the activities you are doing. This is why you should find a few different activities that will help you achieve your fitness goals: running, working out in the gym, CrossFit, yoga, or competitive sports. Having a few different activities will keep your workouts fun and varied and could be a good way to meet new people too.

Treat Yourself To New Workout Gear

Treating yourself to new workout gear can be an effective way to keep yourself motivated. CrossFit backpacks from Built for Athletes will be a great purchase as these are bags that can fit all of your workout gear along with water bottles, towels, a laptop, meal prep, and training tools. This means that it will also be handy for your daily life and ensure that you have everything you need for your workouts.

Use Discipline Instead Of Motivation

If people only exercised when they felt motivated, they wouldn’t get much done, particularly if they had other responsibilities to manage. This is why you need to get into the habit of using discipline for workouts instead of motivation so that you do your workout even if you do not feel like it. This is a secret to success with exercise and achieving fitness goals and should help you to see results.

Hopefully, the tips will come in handy and help you to increase your exercise and achieve your fitness goals. Increasing the amount of exercise that you do can improve your life in many ways, but it can be tough to keep this going, and you need to know a few tips that will help.

Tuesday, 2 Nov 2021 ~ Haru’s Spay Day

Today is the day that I’ve been dreading since we brought Haru home when she was just a 7-week old baby kitten. We are so not looking forward to it, yet we know that spaying Haru will be better for her and for us.

I got up at 4.30 am today to feed Haru her last meal before the surgery at 12+ noon. I gave her a quarter packet of kitten tuna mixed with some water. This is all she is allowed to eat. She kept looking for more food from the trash can and we had to close the kitchen door to prevent her from going inside to forage for food 😹.

Sherilyn and Cass have been playing with Haru and cuddling her lots since yesterday. Like me, they also have a fear that the surgery may go awry and we may never see Haru again.

One more hour to go and we’ll leave for the vet’s clinic. Do wait for my updates on Haru’s spay surgery! And if you could, say a little pray for our Haru. Thank you 🙏

Missing Haru’s baby face. Cass loves going through her phone’s photo album to look back at Haru’s baby photos. She has tons of Haru’s pix on her phone’s photo album!

Fun Decorations for Your Child’s Room

When your children are young, it can be fun to decorate their room in bright colors and crazy characters. You want the space to be somewhere that they enjoy playing in and that they want to spend time in. When deciding how to accessorize the room, make sure you choose things that your child is interested in instead of choosing things you want them to like. That will ensure they enjoy their room even more. Here are some fun ways you can decorate your child’s bedroom.

Use Their Name

As your children grow up, you want them to start recognizing what their name looks like. A great way to do that is to display it in their room. You could paint large letters from the craft store and display them on the windowsill, or perhaps you could contact a company to have their name printed out in vinyl lettering Wayne NJ that you put on the wall.

Assemble a Collage of Loved Ones

Who doesn’t want to feel surrounded in love at all times? When you’re getting the decorations together for your child’s room, consider putting together a collage of their loved ones. You can contact your family members and friends and ask them to send you pictures. Then, have those pictures printed, cut them into different shapes and sizes, and use special glue to attach them to a canvas. When working on the collage, don’t forget to include any family members that have passed away that you want your child to remember.

Create a Chalkboard Wall

One way to teach your child to love playing in their room is to create a chalkboard wall. You can either paint an entire wall or frame out a portion of it and paint the inside of the frame. When purchasing the paint, you want to make sure that you get the correct chalkboard paint. Some paint is labeled chalkboard, but it’s really just for creating a weathered effect on furniture. You want black paint that creates a chalkboard surface on your wall.

4 Popular Sports for Children

Sports are a great way for kids to get exercise and meet new friends. Various sports run during all seasons of the year, and there is something for almost everyone. Here are four of the most popular sports for children.

1. Soccer

Soccer is one of the most well-known childrens sports Maple Valley WA and is usually played outdoors in teams of seven to eight players, sometimes more depending on the age of the players. There is no traditional season for kid’s soccer, so most recreational soccer programs run in the fall and again during the spring to align with school being in session.

2. Basketball

Basketball can be played either indoors or outdoors, making this a popular sport to play year-round. Like other team sports, basketball teaches children strategy, sportsmanship, and the value of teamwork. The length of games and practices vary by age, with a game length of around 20-28 minutes recommended for younger kids and 32-40 minutes for older children.

3. Gymnastics

While gymnasts often compete on a team and practice with others, gymnastics is less of a team sport than soccer or basketball. Female gymnasts compete on four different events, while males compete on six events. Gymnasts are more prone to injuries than many other athletes, so find a coach and training facility that you trust.

4. Track and Field

Another sport that can be practiced individually is track and field. It involves running short or long distances as well as partaking in various strength and throwing events. These field events may include shot put, discus, javelin, and hammer throw. Running events may involve sprints, middle or long distance, hurdles, and relays. Most track and field programs require children to be at least seven years old to sign up.

Consider getting your child involved in one of these sports to make new friends and build valuable life skills.
