Online Lessons From Home

Now that schools are closed for the rest of the year due to rising Covid cases and only reopening on 20 January 2021, this will be the scene in my living room, six times a week.

Her desktop PC is turned on with teacher on screen, mobile phone is turned on with Roblox auto-playing and ear phones plugged in.  Every few minutes, she’ll switch screens to different platforms – Whatsapp, Discord, Spotify, You Tube and don’t know what else. And she’s apparently chatting with her classmates on those channels.  The distraction is just too hard to resist for a kid.  Online learning from home is totally not as effective as learning from school.  What’s more, there will be no more final exam this year and all major government exams are cancelled.  Can I really fault her for her lack of focus in her studies now?  According to Cass’ Mandarin tutor, all her students are behaving in a similar manner throughout the MCO.  Thankfully Cass’ class teacher, who’s also her Chinese language teacher has  the right tactic to tackle the students and the kids are very serious and pay attention whenever she’s teaching online.

According to the website of the high school that Cass will be going to next year, classes will continue to be in a blended learning module in 2021.
