Today is dental appointment day for all 3 girls. Alycia’s due for her monthly change of braces wire and I took the other 2 girls to have their teeth checked. Sherilyn has opted to wear braces to fix several flaws on her teeth. She will require extraction of 4 of her molar (just like Alycia) after CNY next month before the braces are placed. Cass still has baby teeth, thus it’s too soon to tell if she needs braces or otherwise. I’m crossing my fingers that Cass doesn’t need them.
Cost aside, I think wearing braces is just too painful and troublesome, just to achieve a set of perfect looking teeth to look more ‘beautiful’. And beautiful in this context is very subjective. I have a snaggletooth / vampire tooth / yaeba and decades ago, mum asked if I’d like to wear snaggletooth braces but I said NO as I have low pain threshold. Sometimes I regret not fixing the tooth but no way was I ready to go through the painful extraction of four of my teeth! Thus, I now offer my girls the choice and it’s entirely up to them. Considering how costly these dental braces are, the girls are really fortunate to be given the opportunity to wear them.
What is Snaggleteeth
Japan’s beauty trend, dubbed “tseuke-yaeba,” has reached a fever pitch, with young women paying hundreds for “snaggleteeth” as it’s perceived as a sign of youthfulness. For that reason, it’s a trend in Japan that women go through cosmetic dentistry to achieve dracula teeth, which is seen as a thing of beauty.
