Alycia’s B day on 20 June turned out very smoothly. The dentist told us that it would take approximately 1.5 hours for the braces to be fixed but it was completed within an hour. 🙏
While the dentist was working on Alycia’s teeth, I chatted with his wife and later learned that both their children are ASEAN scholars and now studying dentistry.
The procedure looked daunting to me but Miss Cool Cucumber braved through it calmly. I was the one who was feeling anxious and nervous the whole day 🤪 Hopefully Alycia will brave through the 4 teeth extraction just as calmly too when the time comes!
I offered to cook porridge for the girl but she refused; she hates porridge. She ordered ‘yee mee’ and her wish was my command, she had ‘yee mee’ with minced pork and egg sauce for dinner. I offered to cut up the noodles but she rejected my offer too. She said blended and cut up food looks disgusting. Oh well, let’s see! Her first dinner was still A-OK but not the next…
The next day, Alycia could hardly bite onto any solid food. Not even soft bread. She had mashed avocado, yoghurt and homemade Korean vinegar ice lolly (with cut kiwi and Japanese jelly) for her meals the whole day. Drama Queen made smoothie (mango + banana + orange) for her che che. I stocked up my fridge with many cups of yoghurt as that’s the only food that she could and wants to eat. Alycia still refused porridge or soup with rice.
On day 2 and 3, Alycia finally succumbed to porridge and I quickly went out to get her some yummo porridge. But seeing Alycia eat porridge is a torture both for her and me 🤢 She was just swallowing it down her throat, and quietly whining away not because of the pain but how much she hates to eat porridge.
Alycia is definitely going to lose some weight as she’s eating so little since the day the braces was put up. Tonight we will be going to the mall for dinner and for another round of book-shopping. It looks definite that we will have to choose a Chinese restaurant that serves porridge or soup. Whether Alycia likes it or not, she will have to pinch her nose and swallow down her food coz she will be going back to school on Monday and she needs the energy. She looked pretty weak and pale yesterday and kept complaining of being hangry but not being able to eat anything except yoghurt (which she has started to get sick of). All in all, despite the discomfort when she eats, Alycia is taking it all in her stride. She is still going to the gym, tennis lessons, visiting relatives, chatting and laughing, albeit laughing is yet another annoyance which she is still trying to overcome. Soon when the foreign object/braces is well accepted by Alycia’s mouth, she will be able to eat everything again and she can’t wait for the day to come when she can eat chocolate, biscuits, crabs and all her favorite food again.
