An Eventful Wednesday Morning – 7 Sept 2016

On a wet morning today, Drama Queen and I witnessed a harrowing snatch theft.  It happened just outside Guardian Pharmacy at our neighborhood.  Drama Queen and I had just walked out of Guardian Pharmacy and were walking towards the Indian restaurant where the hubs was waiting for us for breakfast.  We heard a girl screaming, followed by some tugging between her and someone inside a car. I could not see exactly what was going on as the scene was blocked by some parked cars. I thought that a girl was having a fight with her boyfriend. But when the car sped off in lightning speed loudly (car has big loud exhaust pipe) and the girl was dragged along, I knew it was more than that. Seconds later after being dragged along by the car, the girl fell on the road. I was shocked and hoped that the girl wasn’t run over by the car.

Drama Queen and I ran to check on the girl. Thank God she wasn’t run over by the car. Passers-by came to check on her. They were asking if someone wanted to kidnap her coz of the tugging. The poor girl (in her early 20s or late teens) was sitting on the road with skirt lifted up and exposed. She was in a daze and too shocked to even cry. I quickly put her skirt back in place.  I then asked Drama Queen to help me lift her up from the road.  She was bleeding on the knees and elbow. Her hand was in great pain and she could not lift that hand. She said her handbag was snatched. I offered my phone to her for her to make a call to her friend / relative to come and fetch her. But she was still shell shocked and could not remember any phone number. She’s a Chinese national and was working at a nearby office building.

In the face of adversity I saw all races come forward together to lend a helping hand. A young Malay man quickly bought a bottle of mineral water to offer to the girl. An Indian man, who is the owner of a stationery shop nearby quickly brought out a chair for the girl to sit by the roadside.  A Chinese national wait staff at a nearby Chinese eatery quickly whipped up his phone to use WeChat to help call the victim’s friend. It was easier for him to communicate with the victim as both are Chinese nationals.

Moments later, Drama Queen, the Chinese waiter and I helped the girl into the Chinese eatery. The girl began to cry, after the shock waned off. I hugged her and comforted her. Once seated in the restaurant, I asked the girl what she wanted. She said she wanted some antiseptic cream. Drama Queen and I quickly went back into Guardian Pharmacy to get a tube of antiseptic cream and bandages for her.

At the restaurant, Drama Queen used tissue papers to wipe off the blood from the girl’s knee. She then applied the antiseptic cream with a piece of clean tissue paper onto the wound and put a bandage on.  I was amazed at how brave and calm Drama Queen was.  I asked the girl if she wanted money but she said it was ok.

Seeing that the victim was a tad settled, we went to the Indian restaurant to have our breakfast.  After our breakfast, we walked back to the Chinese eatery to check on the girl. Her 2 friends were already there. Everyone advised her to make a police report, seek treatment at a hospital and wished her luck as we parted our ways.

When I related what happened to the hubs, he commented that he heard the thunderous vroom of the car exhaust pipe and saw a Malay / Indon man in a  black beat up Proton Saga / Aeroback speeding off like an F1 driver but didn’t think of anything until I told him what had happened.

To everyone reading this post, be extra cautious whenever you are walking on the road. It does not matter whether you are walking in the direction of the traffic or opposite flow of the traffic.  The victim today was walking in the opposite direction of the traffic. The ass h*le opened his car door, grabbed her handbag, closed the door, the victim tried to pull back her bag and was dragged on the road with her dragged backwards.  When you encounter a ruthless monster high on drugs, he has no mercy on you. Hold you handbags tightly and always be on the lookout for suspicious looking cars and people surrounding you.

My breakfast of tosei rawa today.

We had breakfast with our celebrity couple friend Alan Yun and Emily Lim today. But I was a tad traumatized to really enjoy the food. My stomach was still churning.

To the ass h*le who committed the inhumane crime, may karma follow you wherever you are and bite you back real hard!

Non-Baked Delights

Today is an off day at school for Drama Queen as some of the classrooms are utilized for Year 6 pupils sitting for their UPSR exam.

In exactly a year’s time, it will be Drama Queen’s turn to sit for the UPSR exam! Exactly a year ago, Alycia sat for her UPSR.  Time sure flies!!

Drama Queen spent her morning searching for recipe ideas from her favorite You Tuber (Laur DIY). She wants to look for cookie and cake recipes that are fuss-free and require very little ingredients.  My rule to her is – bake something that does not require my help and it MUST be mess-free and child-safe even if executed alone.  She knows that I’ll freak out if she creates mess in the kitchen.  My way or the highway, I told her.

This is what she whipped up today…

She rummaged through the fridge and found some dark chocolate and white chocolate for baking.  She popped the dark chocolate into the microwave oven to melt it. While I was busy working at the computer, she did her thing in the kitchen. I was too busy to even check what she was doing.  An hour later, I found her creation in the freezer, which was pretty impressive!

These petite goodies are for her bestie’s birthday tomorrow, which she will bring them to school for her.

The chocolaty squares are blueberry corn flakes mixed with melted dark chocolate, Pic’s sugar-free peanut butter, toasted almonds and cashews (crushed) and maple syrup. This is really yummy. The strawberries, banana and biscuits are dipped with melted chocolate and coated with white chocolate balls. She even dipped some toasted sliced almonds with the melted chocolate.

Drama Queen is set to be an entrepreneur in future. She’s already making DIY stuff with yarn, wires and accessories bought from Daiso and selling her products in school to close pals.  With the money she earns, she buys more materials to make into cute DIY stuff that she learns from You Tube. She even tells me that she wants to help me sell Izumio and Super Lutein in school. This I had to say NO coz I don’t want to be called into the principal’s office upon complaints from parents that my daughter is a hustler! lol!!

Pre-Loved Books & New School Shoes For Sale

It’s been really tough for my girls to let go of their very much loved story books. To date, I think they have close to a thousand titles. Many of them are Geronimo Stilton, Thea Stilton, Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, Enid Blyton series (Famous Five and a whole bunch of stories), Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan, Heroes Of Olympus by Rick Riordan, Goosegumps by RL Stein, Mr Midnight, Mr Mystery series, The Trials Of Apollo by Rick Riordan, Magnus Chase by Rick Riordan, True Singapore Ghost Stories and much, much more. They have so many books that we have no space to store them now. The books are scattered everywhere. Well, we have a new book shelf to store some of them but the rest of the books are in their wardrobe, in plastic boxes under the bed and just about everywhere. Pretty much an eyesore to me! I told the girls that if they want to buy new books, the old ones would have to go first!  Cass keeps reminding me to snap photos of the books so that I can sell them at my online store and on Facebook. Busy schedules, daily routines, and blurs of life events made me procrastinate. Days turned into weeks and tumbled into months.  Finally yesterday, I delegated the task of doing the photography of the books to Cass, after another reminder from her. Bless this sweet little girl for volunteering to help me with the photography.

Though Cass still loves her Geronimo and Thea Stilton books, she knows she has to let them go so that she can get new ones.

I am now letting go Cass’ Geronimo Stilton and Thea Stilton books at RM10 each.  The books are currently retailed at Rm23.90 each and some at almost RM50 each for the hard-cover ones.

While hunting for some stuff in the storeroom over the weekend, I fished out a brand new pair of school shoes that I had bought for Cass early this year. It was meant to be her spare pair of shoes in case the current pair got wet or dirty. But I kept them in the storeroom and forgot all about it, dang it! When she tried it on on Saturday, it was tight. Her feet had outgrown the brand new pair of school shoes.

The pair of Bata B.First school shoes was purchased at RM32.99 and now letting go at RM23.  The materials are canvas, PVC and rubber.  Straps have velcro for easy and fast wearing.

Outer sole length is about 22cm.

I have tasked the girls to single out more books that they no longer need and snap photos of them for me to post them for sale. So watch this space. There will be more pre-loved good quality books up for grabs soon!

Interested buyers, please drop me an email at shireenyong@gmail.com or Whatsapp / call at 019 266 4290.

Mode of receiving items – either by Pos Laju (to be borne by buyer) or pick up at my place at Old Klang Road.

Treating Thalassemia Naturally With Hydrogen Water And Carotenoids

One of our members who has been consuming Iz**** and Super L***** shared with us the good news that her nephew with Thalassemia is slowly but surely on the road to recovery after consuming both the products for over a year. This member in particular is a medical doctor.

Below is her testimonial translated from BM to English.

Today is the first day my nephew began his new life as an undergraduate… a Thalassemia sufferer who needed blood transfusion every month. He has been taking Iz**** and Super L***** for more than a year. His blood transfusion went from 4 weeks once to 6 weeks once after taking the products.

And last night, a ‘today in history’ matter happened. His follow up for blood transfusion before he enters university.   It was shocking that his haemoglobin level was NORMAL and the doctor cancelled the scheduled blood transfusion for this month. Thank you God.  Hope that this will continue always. To whoever who has a child with Thalassemia, please PM me immediately.  With God’s blessing may their quality of lives be changed.

If you know of anyone suffering from Thalassemia, please refer them to me. There is no harm trying the products. Give the products a chance to proof themselves vs. continuation with regular painful blood transfusions.

I can be reached at shireenyong@gmail.com or 019 266 4290 for more information on the products.

Pet Dog

It is our weekly routine every Saturday evening. After piano class, I will walk Cass to a pet shop next to the music center to say hello to the puppies there that we meet weekly.  We will coo over those super adorable pups.  Most of them are imported exotic dogs.  Each time we step into the pet shop, I will have a hard time pulling Cass out of the shop.   Last Saturday, it was especially hard for me to persuade Cass to leave the pet shop.  There was a new puppy in the shop and it was a mega cute and fluffy Samoyed. It was like a ball of white cotton with super cute eyes and nose that resembled shiny black longan seeds. The eyes had double eyelids and long eye lashes. The Samoyed pup connected with Cass immediately and was barking at Cass while tapping the glass panel with its paws excitedly, following Cass wherever she went to.  Cass and I were totally besotted with the gorgeous Samoyed!

The Samoyed pup looked exactly like the one in the picture below.  And the price tag for the Samoyed pup?

undeniable proof samoyed are irresistible. They look really fetch. <a href="http://www.buzzfeed.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.buzzfeed.com</a>:

A frigging RM7,000!!

I gulped looking at the price tag. It was one of the most expensive dogs in the pet shop.  Other breeds like Husky and Chow Chow cost RM5k – RM6k each.

Samoyed:

Cass begged me to buy her the Samoyed with twitchy nose. But hello, it’s a frigging RM7k!!  Even if it was RM700, I would have to say NO to her as we live in a condo where pet dogs are not permissible, though some residents keep small dogs.  Plus I have NO time to care for a dog, NO extra budget for a pet and NO space for it.

Since that Saturday, Cass has been bugging me to buy her that Samoyed pup. Each time she begs me with pleading eyes, I will give her the same reasons why we can’t have a pet dog yet.

When Cass pestered me for a pet dog yesterday, I told her that when my third and last pet dog, Spotty died, I told myself that I will never have a pet dog again.  I told her how heartbreaking it was for me each time my pet dogs left me for doggie’s heaven.

My first unofficial pet dog was a stray that my brothers and I named ‘Brownie’ in English and ‘sau keok‘ in Cantonese.  Sau keok means skinny legs in English. Brownie was a skinny, female dog that lived at our back lane. My brothers and I would feed Brownie with leftover food and bones every evening. We adored Brownie very much.  I was 12 years old that year.  One day Brownie gave birth to a litter of brown pups. My younger brother, Roy and I were besotted with the pups. When my back lane neighbor gave the pups to her friend,  I would cycle with my  brother Roy behind me on the bicycle to visit the pups whenever I could in the evening.  One morning during the school holidays, I was woken up from my sleep by a loud gun shot, followed by the eerie sounds of a dog yelping in pain. Till today, I can still remember Brownie’s last cries when she was shot to death.  I ran out of my room to the back lane and my back lane neighbor told me that the Dewan Bandaraya guys had killed Brownie. I then saw a group of men in uniform killing more stray dogs at the back lane with a long sharp spear. My heart dropped. The sight was too gruesome and cruel. I ran inside the house bawling while screaming “Brownie is dead, they killed Brownie!!” I mourned for Brownie’s passing for weeks.

Less than a year later after we moved into our new house, our neighbor’s Spitz dog gave birth to some pups.  He gave us a white Spitz pup which we named Ricky.  Ricky looked like a Samoyed.  Everyone adored Ricky but he did not live long. One morning, my big brother Ray left the front gate opened when he went up the school bus.  Ricky was ran over by the school bus! I ran out of the house, shell shocked to see Ricky writhing in pain on the road. It felt like seeing my own heart beating its last beat on the road.  Ricky was frothing in the mouth. I ran up to my parents’ bedroom and with tears streaming down my cheeks, I begged my dad to bring Ricky to the vet.  That evening when dad fetched me from the ACS swimming pool after swimming lessons, he broke the bad news to me that the vet had to euthanize Ricky as its pelvis was crushed.  I will never forget that fateful day. I was holding back tears all the way from the ACS swimming pool to the vet’s office, where my dad brought me to say my last goodbye to Ricky. I will never forget the look on Ricky’s eyes in the cage.  The last goodbye was SO SO SO painful. I mourned painfully for Ricky’s death for days by locking myself in my bedroom. I remember my parents coming into my room to console me.  They promised me that they will get me another pet dog.

Months later, big brother Ray’s bestie told him that his dog had just given birth to some puppies and asked us if we wanted one. I couldn’t be happier!  I begged my parents to let me have a replacement pet dog. I still remember my mum bringing me to Alan’s house opposite the turf club in Ipoh to bring the puppy home.  That was in February 1987. For the first time, I saw Alan’s mum, whom I have no inkling that she would be my MIL 13 years later!  I was 14 years old then.  We named the puppy Spotty as it has light brown patches on its body. Spotty lived healthily and was very much loved for 12 years.  It died just a few months before my younger brother Roy left Malaysia for the UK for further studdies.  Spotty died on Roy’s lap on the way to the vet.  I again mourned and cried for days.

Heartbreaking huh? Much as I would like to have another pet dog,  I can’t imagine going through another round of grief when my next pet dog passes on.  I guess I will  not have the courage to keep another pet dog… at least not for another 10 years.
