Big Bad Box Book Sale @ Mines 2

Today is perhaps one of the happiest days for the girls, especially the biggest girl, who is the biggest lover of novels. Hubs finally agreed to bring the girls to the Big Bad Wolf Sale (themed Big Bad Box Sale this year @ Mines 2) today. The girls were jumping and screaming with joy when their dad promised to bring them to the book sale today.

After picking up Alycia from school, we went straight to Mines 2. The kids ate their lunch of sandwiches in the car. Upon arrival at Mines 2 (our first time there), we were pretty lost as the place is huge and we did not know which building to drive into to park our car. After asking for direction, hubs spent another 15-20 minutes hunting for a space to park his car.

At the book fair, we bought the RM99.90 big box (I’d like to call it the ‘book buffet’), where you can stuff in as many books as you can into the box within a confined space. There is also a cheaper and smaller box at RM79.90. Books outside of the Big Box area are ‘ala carte’ and cannot be included into the Big Box.

The girls excitedly checked their box upon payment and could not wait to go on a book binge! Note – you can stuff in as many books as you can but the box flaps/cover must be flat and sealed with masking tape during check-out. So – no overflowing of books.

The ‘book buffet’ spread was really huge. There were so many books — so many that the girls did not know where to start attacking first. A lot of time is wasted going through the assortment of books. Most of the books in the Big Box area are jumbled up and not placed according to authors.

Credit must be given to the girls for skillfully maximizing all the space in the box. The 3 of them put their heads and hands together and arranged the books like the game Tetris! 😀 Since there was still some empty space left during check-out, I grabbed 2 big cook books to fill up the remaining empty space in the box 😀

The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale @ Johor and Big Bad Box Sale @ Mines 2 will end on 7 June 2015. If you are free, do drop by and grab some books. We’ve scooped enough books to satiate the girls’ thirst for books for half a year hopefully and they also got some books for their friends as presents. School workbooks are also available but they are not included in the Big Box though.

Scanning In An Open Area

An MRI can often detect injuries in the body that an x-ray might not be able to see. It can also assist in seeing tumors and other health issues that ordinary tests don’t. If you don’t like being in an enclosed space, then an open MRI would be an option. There are other benefits of this kind of machine that make it easy to conduct the test.

The open machine can sometimes give better details where a closed MRI might miss something. It can also provide safety for patients. This kind of MRI is commonly used with people who are obese and unable to comfortably be inside a closed tunnel. The open machine isn’t confining as there isn’t a traditional tube. There is an arm that extends over the table in order to capture the images.

If you are claustrophobic, then this would be the best option. You will be able to see the nurses who are performing the scan and the rest of the room instead of looking at the inside of a closed area. There is room for someone to offer comfort through the scan. This is a benefit for children who might want a parent. There is often enough room for the parent to lay on the table with the child. This can help decrease the need for sedatives in order to relax the child for the scan. IV poles can easily be taken into the room since there is no enclosure.

You can be positioned closer to the magnet so that better pictures can be taken. This can give doctors a clear view of the area. Some of the closed tunnels might inhibit views, causing doctors to miss something important on the scan. There is less noise and a lower magnetic field with an open machine.

Living Skills Training For Kids

One of the activities for Sherilyn during this school holiday is living skills training 🙂

She may be pretty clumsy, impulsive (she drives me nuts with her impulsiveness) and accident-prone, but when it comes to cooking, I can see that she is trying really hard NOT to be what she is 😀

As she flipped the cabbage with a spatula yesterday evening, I stood next to her telling her… “be GENTLE, DON’T FLIP the cabbage too fast, don’t flip any cabbage out of the wok please, SLOWLY, don’t let the garlic get burnt, don’t get too near the stove, make sure your clothes are not near the stove and fire, lower down the flame, NOT TOO MUCH SALT PLEASE …” LOL!!

I think our neighbors must have even heard me yelling out the instructions every evening and must be wondering if the fierce lady is talking to her new Pinoy maid. Thank goodness, they won’t know that it’s from our unit. That’s one of the advantages of staying in a condo, hehehe.

I also grilled a pomfret fish with fish curry powder, turmeric powder, soy sauce, black pepper, garlic and onions and a drizzle of palm sugar.
