Fancy trying out something whimsical, wacky and out of sync? For all you nasi lemak and ice-cream fan-see out there, you can now try a 2-in-1 ice-cream made of two of your favorite food items – nasi lemak and ice-cream! What great combo eh?
After our lunch at Namoo @ Publika before our trip up North last week, we hopped over to Whimsical Gelateria & Caffe to have desserts.
Whimsical is situated just opposite Namoo. Whimsical lives up to its moniker, dishing out whimsical frozen fantasies that are discernibly different from other cafes serving coffee and gelato.
We first sampled several ice-cream flavors by Cielo Dolci before choosing our flavors.
Whimsical keeps Cielo Dolci at the forefront for gelato in the Klang Valley. This is a full-fledged cafe where ice cream made in the traditional Italian fashion is creatively and whimsically infused into the menu.
We sampled some nasi lemak ice cream but found it awkward haha! Other whimsically ingenious gelato flavors are Guiness Stout, popcorn, teh tarik, tofu, kedondong, Genmaicha, pineapple tart, among others. One of the owner’s newest creations is the beef bacon and basil ice cream, both of which are cleverly incorporated into savoury dishes as part of a main course in his latest venture.
Whimsical Cafe is not all about gelato; however gelato plays a big role in the menu creation where it is incorporated into both savory courses and desserts.

We chose coconut + gula melaka gelato (made of both my favorite food items – coconut flesh and palm sugar) and salted caramel gelato.
Two scoops of ice creams on a piece of heavenly waffle. The waffle was very crispy and fluffy – one of the best that I have ever tasted!
This cotton candy affogato is one of the most creative and bizarre desserts I have tried!
When you pour the coffee onto the cotton candy, you will see magic before your eyes!! It looks like hundreds of ants are running furiously around the cotton candy, finding their way into the cup where a scoop of coconut gula melaka ice cream is concealed underneath. My girls were awestruck!
We were definitely impressed with Whimsical, so much that upon our return from Ipoh, we brought my parents to try this cafe.
