Alycia’s 8th Birthday Celebration

When we asked Alycia what cake she would like to have for her birthday this year, she told us that she didn’t want any cake! This girl can be pretty practical at times. She knew that our birthday cakes are often unfinished and though after giving part of the cake away, we would still end up having some in the fridge, which no one would eat afterward. Moreover, her mah mah has been baking a lot of cakes ever since she came back and we are all cake-stuffed satisfactorily 🙂  Instead, she asked for a crabs feast! As usual, the girls’ wishes are their daddy’s command and we had a crabby dinner at Unique Seafood Restaurant, PJ. But daddy still got his little girl our favorite green tea red bean cake from our favorite bakery. How can a little girl’s birthday be a birthday without a birthday cake eh?

The girls with their ‘kai yeh’ aka godfather. Kai Yeh was the first guest to carry Alycia when we were still in the hospital after her birth. That was 8 years ago and I can still remember that happy day very vividly. How very fast time has passed us by!! And he’s the bestest kai yeh ever who is always at the 3 girls’ birthday celebrations and unhappy occasions too when Alycia was hospitalized in 2005 and after Baby’s surgeries in 2009.

Daddy got Alycia a surprise gift and it was a stainless steel scooter.

A crabby feast with 3 scrumptious crab dishes, cooked in different styles. By the time the dishes came at 8ish pm, we were all so famished that I had forgotten to fish out my camera to start ‘work’.  Luckily I remembered about it when the 3rd crab dish was served, tee hee!

I love the ‘goe hai’ with salty eggs, which is a calorie-and-cholesterol laden dish! A few bites of the calorie-laden ‘goe’ (crab roe) and duck’s eggs are enough to fill you up, really. That’s how ‘jai’ it is. I had to force myself up from bed early this morning to run for half an hour to burn off those calories.

  1. your girls are already at the age of knowing how to enjoy crab. I am still waiting for this moment to happen, because there is no way I can eat in peace with my 2 very impatient boys now.
