That’s how Sherilyn did her Kumon subtraction sums. Instead of working on and finishing the sums one by one, she worked on the left part of all the sums first, then tackled the right part.Β And that’s how she does her writing homework too. I had to whack her to stop her from doing it again and again.Β She evenΒ tried to copy the answers from the answer sheets at the back of the page!Β This cunning rascal.Β Gave her a big tongue lashing session and had to staple up the answer sheets to stop her from copying.
By the way,Β do you think this is too tough for a 6-year old? Sherilyn is now doing a Grade 2 Kumon Math book. She finds Kumon a big bore and I have to use lots of threats on her to get her to complete the sums. She prefers to practice her Math sums on the laptop, from those free Math sites for kids.

Hi, Shireen,
Happy New Year! π
It’s obvious that Sherilyn is a right brain girl. A right brain person is good at arts and creativity.
In other words, colors will attract her attention. A white and black book like Kumon’s is for sure to drive her away from the book. ^.^
If she is allowed to use color pencils to write answers, maybe this will prolong her span of attention.
Also, I can accept that she tackles the left part, then the right part.
Before I retired from giving tuition, I used to let my students do such things. I let them like what they are doing first. Once they like it, they will improve.
When every student does the same or draw a flower exactly as told, they are molded to give the same standard answer.
Just my two cents. π
That worksheet looked bored… I would have done the same too, or run away…. π
Happy CNY to you and your family….
hmm…i find it a bit tough for a 6yo. And I would run away too if I have to deal with this worksheet π
Vedis, thanks for your tip π
