One of the newest ventures by the Oriental Group of Restaurants is the Han Room at Gardens, Mid Valley KL. We went there on the eve of the Eve of CNY early this week. Though it was a week day, the restaurant was almost fully booked.
For appetizer, we were served a plate of flavorful and appetite whetting deep fried bean curd adorned with Thai-style sweet and sour dressing.
We wanted to eat something light, so we ordered some dim sum, a fried rice for my ‘fan toong’ Alycia and a plate of noodles for my noodles crazed Sherilyn.
The basket of dim sum on the left is otak-otak dim sum. It is Japanese tofu stuffed with fish paste, topped with a piece of otak-otak …
Double boiled chicken soup with abalone. Baby my little soup lover gulped down almost the entire bowl of soup while I wolfed the abalone hehehe…
This is our all-time favorite veggie dish – kai lan cooked in 2 different styles – stir fried at the bottom with deep fried shredded kai lan on top. My girls walloped every strand of the deep fried kailan crisps on the plate.
Fried rice with prawns and crab meat served in clay pot…
Wantan noodles with seafood and fresh mushrooms.
This Cheong fun dish is unique. Wrapped inside the thin flat rice noodles are some deep fried stuffing which this dunderhead can’t really tell what the ingredients are for the stuffing. Taste wise only so-so. I prefer the regular Hong Kong style cheong fun with char siew and prawns or fresh scallops.
We will be making another trip to this restaurant on Valentine’s Day. It will be our CNY reunion meal with our friends.
