What Do You Do With Your Old Socks?

I used to throw them away as soon as the elastics start to loosen but after spending quite a bit on new socks (even bought them for my helper) each time my kids go to kids’ theme parks like Mega Kidz or Jungle Gym, I have started to collect old socks. Before our outing to the theme park, I will now fish out all my collection of old socks and dump them into my bag. Once we are there, everyone will don on the old socks. After all the fun, I will dump these socks right away. No point bringing them home to have them washed as they are filthy and black.  Used to do that but gosh, whenever my kids are out from the theme park, the sole of the socks will be as black as charcoal. My helper had to brush and scrub the socks and yet the dirt just won’t budge. So why waste water, detergent, time and energy in washing the socks right? Just chuck them away at the exit point of the theme park, easy peasy job hah!  And oh yea, don’t throw your old undies and bras away.  Bring them along for your trips. After wearing them, chuck them into the bin.  You can travel light this way.  And you can save on disposable undies or panty liners 😀

My collection of old socks… and I had thrown them during our last outing at Mega Kidz 😀

Lemon Cheese Cocoa Sponge Cake

A day before my mil left for Hong Kong, she dug out whatever cake-baking ingredients that were in the fridge that were almost expiring to whip up a delish cake for us. There was no specific recipe for the cake. When I asked her what cake she was baking, she said it’s a ‘whatever ingredients that I have’ cake LOL! Nonetheless, the cake tasted fabulous, similar to those sold in bakeries.

This is her creation :

It is a cocoa sponge cake sandwiched  with fresh cream cheese (made with whipped cream cheese and lemon juice).  Topping is also lemon cream cheese and sprinkled with white chocolate coated rice crispies.  I must say that this innovatively baked cheese cake is very tasty…. not ‘jai’, not sweet, very fluffy, very cheesy and very chocolaty.  YUMS,  iLike!  She also cooked some dishes to deep freeze them so that we could have some instant meals after she had left. So good hor?

Our New Year’s Eve

My parents have been in KL since last Thursday. We have been having many eating sessions and the girls have been having loads of fun time with koong koong and granny. They will certainly miss my parents when they return to Ipoh tomorrow. Tomorrow is the start of the first day of school and we will all have to get accustomed to rigid timing again… from waking up at 5:45am to going to bed at 9pm, tuition, homework and loads of stress associated with school, sigh……!!!!!   Poor Alycia would have to leave the house at 6:30am, only to return home at 2pm.  Poor poor girl.

This afternoon through now, my dear mum has been helping me wrap Alycia’s books. Guess how many books she has to wrap for a Primary 2 kid? 69 books I kid you not!! Thankfully there’s such a thing as ready book covers and she didn’t have to wrap them from scratch like we used to during our time 30 years ago.

On 30 December (last Thursday) was hubs’ birthday. We had a ‘crabby’ dinner at Tak Fok restaurant at Palm Square, Jaya 1 PJ. This restaurant is well known for their crab dishes. After dinner we went next door to Wendy’s to grab some ice-creams for the girls and then went over to Starbucks to have coffee and a cake cutting session at Starbucks…

We had a pretty quiet New Year’s Eve. Hubs’ catering service was booked full, so we didn’t have the usual party at home where our friends would gather, eat, toast, count down and then watch fireworks from the 5th floor of our unit. But we did stay up to midnight to watch the spectacular fireworks from our unit. The fireworks this New Year’s Eve was spectacular and pretty long, lasting over 10 minutes. We saw the fireworks from 5 different places – KLCC / KL Towers area, Dataran Merdeka area, Little India / Le Meridien / Hilton Sentral area, among others.  That’s one of the things iLike about living in a condo, great view of the city and the occasional fireworks display throughout the year.

How was your New Year’s Eve celebration?

Here’s wishing all my readers a very wonderful, joyous and smooth sailing 2011!
