“Ambil Pepper Kakak, Cheh Cheh Suck Thumb”

At 5 years 5 months, Sherilyn is still a thumb sucker.  She sucks her thumb when she’s sleepy, bored and when she’s in front of the tellie.  Each time we see her happily sucking her thumb away, we will reprimand her but she couldn’t be bothered, sigh!!   Recently, my mil would threaten to put pepper powder on her thumb whenever she catches her sucking thumb.  This would scare her but only for a minute or two and later when everyone else is busy with their chores again, her thumb is back right into her mouth!!  Me, I would threaten to take her pix and show the whole world.  This would deter her too but only for a short moment.

Last night Sherilyn was again sucking her thumb while watching TV.  I was spoon-feeding Baby milk and I reprimanded Sherilyn for sucking her thumb.  When I had finished feeding Baby milk, I went into the kitchen to wash the cup.  Baby then ran to the kitchen and said this to our helper “ambil pepper kakak, cheh cheh suck thumb” and pointed to the pepper on the counter top.   My helper and I had a good laugh on hearing that LOL!   At 2 yrs 3 months now, Baby’s comprehension of the Malay language is pretty good and she can speak in Malay too.  Her favorite song is ‘Bangun Pagi, Gosok Gigi’ and she can sing the entire song, complete with actions 🙂

Baby Loves Swimming

I cannot tell you how much Baby loves swimming. Each time she sees her 2 jie jies swim at the pool, she will run to the drawer and pull out her jie jies’ old swim suits and put it on herself. Then she will plead with us to bring her along. But I am not ready to take another risk of letting her swim in the pool, knowing very well that a swimming pool may be teeming with bacteria. When she swam at the pool at Hard Rock Hotel Penang in December last year, she had a UTI attack 2 weeks later.

The best that daddy could do to placate his pitiful, pleading Baby was to put her on his shoulders and walked round the pool with her on top of his shoulders.

See how excited and happy Baby was here to be able to join her 2 jie jies swim… she was wearing Alycia’s very first swim suit, which is a 2-piece Pumpkin Patch bought from New Zealand.  However, the bottom was too big for my skinny mini and I had to let her wear another bottom meant for 18 months old toddlers.

Daddy put Baby on a swimming board and pushed her around the pool, as if she was on a boat 😀

After just 15 minutes in the pool, I quickly pulled Baby out and washed her down under thoroughly with water at the shower area next to the pool, then brought her up and gave her a good shower.  If Baby is free from UTI for another year, I will let her swim in the pool.

Spoil Rotten By Daddy

I wonder whether all kids born in the middle are harder to handle and have what people call the ‘middle child syndrome’. I am facing a very tough time handling my #2. She is a very demanding child, very whiny, very disobedient, can be very daring and rebellious and she cries every single day. She’s 5 years old. I try to be patient with her but she seems to fall on deaf ears when I talk sensibly to her. Negative aspects aside, this little fella can be very sweet and angelic at times, when she is in a good mood. She is also very vain, likes to dress herself up from head to toe and likes her hair long. When Sherilyn grows up, I wouldn’t be surprised if she badgers her daddy to send her to Jacksonville Cosmetology School, a renowned beauty school in the U.S. And I wouldn’t be surprised that her daddy would accede to her request as she is spoilt rotten by him.

Our Simple Homecooked Dinner

Ever since my mil has gone to HK, our meals are pretty simple and easy to cook. I normally cook 2 dishes and there is always a soup. At least twice a week, I will either fry noodles, fry rice, cook spaghetti / pasta or cook porridge. I only cook once in the afternoon and then everyone eats the same thing again for dinner. Sometimes, we eat the same thing again the next day – for lunch haha! That rarely happens, unless my girls are crazy over that dish.

I always make sure that there is a protein dish and a fibre dish served at each meal. Red meat and seafood are rarely cooked. Fish is cooked every other day.  Greens are served everyday.

Here’s one of my dinners:

Fried yee mein (I cooked this in the afternoon – for lunch and dinner!), stir-fried brocolli with chicken slices and a long beans-onions omelette.  The brocolli and omelette dish were too big a portion and we had this again for lunch the next day.

Are your menus pretty much the same as mine too? Would love to hear yours too 🙂

A Day With Celebrities

Today we had lunch with our old friend, Alan Yun at Imbi Palace. Alan is a model, commercials actor and now a movie star. We have known him since he was a school boy and he’s like our little brother.

The 3 girls, hubby and I with Alan Yun. On Alan’s right is Emily (model & actress). On hubby’s left is former national basketball player – darn tall & burly guy.

Afer lunch, we had ice-creams for dessert at Haegan Daz @ Lot 10. Whilst walking to Haegan Daz @ Lot 10, we bumped into Chef Wan, the celebrity chef! He is very warm and friendly… and even gave Baby a peck on her cheek 😀

I shared this ‘Paradise’ ice cream with the girls. Now, I feel so bloated and certainly don’t feel like I’m in paradise!

Our friend ate this banana split.

Shunning The Potty

Of my 3 girls, Baby is the latest to be potty trained. Alycia was the earliest and easiest to potty train.  As for Baby, I keep procrastinating potty training her, plus I just can’t find the time. Baby has a pretty weird habit. She would only poo poo in her diaper and in the weirdiest way ever. She needs to find a chair and then rest her hands on the chair while straining LOL! Bring a potty to her, she will resist her urge to poo poo! Our doctors had warned us many times that constipation will cause UTI, even in a healthy child with no history of Kidney Reflux. So I always give in to Baby’s request and allow her to poo poo in her diaper. As long as she poo poos, I will be happy, everybody will be happy! Baby still needs psyllium husk and Duphalac everyday to help her to poo poo 🙁

Trying hard to straaaaaaaaain… anyone who goes near Baby will get this from her “GO AWAY, don’t kacau me!” HAHAHAHAHA!!

Dad’s Homecooked Dishes

I love my dad’s cooking. He has no training from anyone yet he can whip up a hurricane for all of us, anytime. He enjoys cooking and he is the chef at home. My mum, she’s the baker. So when we are back at my parents in Ipoh, all of us get to enjoy the best of both worlds – my dad’s homecooked dishes and my mum’s cakes, pies, homemade jams, our all-time favorite homemade kaya, homemade English soups and homemade breads.

My dad cooked these dishes during our recent trip back to Ipoh:

Stir fried petai (stinky beans) with prawns and minced meat…

Pan-fried salmon fish…

Steamed cod fish…

Super smooth Ipoh tofu with minced pork, chopped spring onions and soy sauce…

His famous turmeric chicken which is everyone’s favorite…

Braised fish maw, mushrooms and dried scallops…. and also a pot of very tasty chicken and dried seafood soup (not in picture).

Gosh, my tummy is already rumbling away as I am typing this post and I’m sure yours is too eh, heheheehe….
