All Is Well!

Everything went well at the hospital today.  The ultrasound scan went without a glitch, though Baby bawled and fussed initially but when she realized that it didn’t hurt, she quietly saw her ‘pictures’ on the ‘TV’.  That’s what we told her – that the doctor was taking pix of her kidneys and that she could watch them on the TV (the monitor).

According to our surgeon, the ultrasound scan showed that her right kidney (both the moities) is growing well.  Though a tad dilated (it will always be dilated as it was dilated from day one since she was in-utero), the dilation is significantly lower than pre-surgery.  Our surgeon isn’t worried about the dilation as there is now no more kidney reflux.  We just have to keep her constipation at bay as constipation is one of the main causes of UTIs in children.  She was prescribed with a big bottle of Duphalax and has to consume 10ml should she have constipation.

I am very amazed that despite having gone through the nightmarish stay in the hospital after more than a year ago, she still remembered the X-ray room very much!  The second she stepped into the radiology department of the hospital, her  mood changed from lively and jovial to  one that’s tensed.  Each time we walked closer to the X-ray rooms, she fussed and cried.  When she was brought into the X-ray room, she kept saying “I tak mau injection!”.  I think she still remembered what she had gone through during the many radiation scans (which required injection of dye into the IV catheter on her hands and feet) and x-rays during her 3-week stay in the hospital in May last year.  My poor baby.  I hope that all those bitter and painful experiences will now be behind her once and for all.

Pictures taken at the hospital will be posted later….

Don’t Take My Shampoo!

One of Baby’s pet peeves is that her 2 jie jies cannot take the shampoo that she uses! My 2 older girls prefer to shower in the master bedroom bathroom while I prefer to shower Baby in the other bathroom. I have forbidden my 2 older girls to use liquid body shampoo as they play with it and use too much of it. They are only allowed to use Johnson & Johnson’s bar soap. But these 2 rascals will always come to the other bathroom and conveniently bring the bottle of body shampoo there.  When this happens, all hell will break loose!  Baby will scream “my shampoo….. don’t take my shampoo, don’t take my shampoo, GIVE ME BACK!!”  She will then wait no further and will transfer all the bottles of shampoo back to her bathroom – 2 huge bottles in both her tiny arms!  I have been telling Baby that she has to share her shampoo and everything else with her 2 jie jies but she is still not accepting this yet. Well, 2 yo toddlers are mostly like that.  My 2 older girls were like that too when they were younger. Baby is very very bossy and territorial and I think she will be the fiercest among my 3 girls.

On another note, we will be making a trip back to Ipoh today.  Tomorrow we will head up north to Penang to GMC.  Baby will be due for her bi-annually ultrasound scan of her kidneys tomorrow.  Gosh, I am nervous and anxious. I hope the scan shows that her right kidney is developing normally.  Please pray for Baby.

A Story Of The Soy Bean Milk Man And Me

I haven’t been so embarrassed for a long, long time. Yesterday morning after my half hour run, I stopped by the soy bean milk man’s van to get a packet of soy bean milk for the girls. I buy soy bean milk and bean curd from this man very regularly. That morning, a lady who looks like an Indonesian greeted me in Cantonese “joa sun, oi mee yeh leng lui?” (good morning, what do u want pretty girl?). I was not surprised that the Indon lady could speak good Cantonese. Many foreign workers in our country speak fairly good Mandarin and Cantonese.

It was the first time I saw this lady and I have known this soy bean milk man for almost 10 years. So I asked the man this “lei ke sun koong yan ar?” (is that your new helper?)…. to which he replied “ngor loa por geh” (my wife’s)…. to which I said “oh, lei gei loa por koong yan lei geh?” (oh, that’s your wife’s helper). The soy bean milk man then corrected me “um mai, koa kor hai ngor loa por lei geh” (no, that’s my wife). When I heard that, I was flushed and malu. Oh gosh, what did I just say? I just said that his wife looks like an Indon maid, oh no… how could I have said such a thing?! I should have zipped my gap and not ask him anything. I was really expecting the man to be offended as he isn’t the friendly and cordial type of person but thank God, he wasn’t angry a wee bit. He was explaining to me why his wife was there and blah blah blah. When I learned that the Indon lady is his wife, I gave her a 2nd, 3rd and 4th look, just to be doubly sure that she’s an Indon.  I am quite certain that she is an Indon as she was talking to another Indon lady there in Indon language.  And each time I looked at his wife, this lady gave me the most polite smile and thank you nod (to thank me for patronizing them).

Moral of the story is, if you are not sure of something and if you do not know the person very well, don’t ask the person any question that is quite personal. Just keep the curiosity to yourself to save yourself from embarrassment and possible chiding off!

Our Sunday

Today is another typical Sunday – morning in church and after church, off we went for lunch. Our initial plan was to have Italian’s at Marco’s, Bangsar Village but ended up having a joy ride round PJ looking for other food… and all the kids in the car complaining of being famished! We finally settled for Chinese food at Paris, SS2 PJ.

Here are some pix taken in Sunday School today:

Baby is another social butterfly like her #2 jie jie, who is not afraid of volunteering to do things asked by the Sunday School volunteer teachers.

Something funny happened.  Baby who had never met this little boy here suddenly spotted him from across where she was seated.  It was as if there was a magnetic force and she was SOOO drawn to him.  She ran to this little boy and into this boy’s mummy’s arms like they have known each other all their lives!  This happened several times throughout Sunday School.  I later chatted with the little boy’s mummy and found out that he was born in the same month and same year as Baby!

Baby also obediently participated during the prayer sessions.  I had a good laugh looking at her half closing her eyes while peeping at other kids LOL!

Baby volunteered to help the Sunday School teacher.  I think she will have no problem adapting herself when I send her to nursery next year.

Wayward Child?

Rascal #2 never fails to give us heart attacks each time we bring her out.  Many times, just when we were busy in the midst of doing something, she would be out of our radar.  She loves wandering away from us.  My mil, hubs and I would always chide her off big time whenever she wanders away from us but this fella is never afraid.  I have been frightening her with exaggerated stories of young kids being kidnapped but this does not seem to bother her very much.

Yesterday when I was busy checking the receipt at the check-out counter at a nearby mini market, she again zoomed off my radar… away to the corner of the road to look for her daddy.  One time when I brought her shopping at FOS Times Square, she hid among the rack of clothes and I panicked like a headless chicken when I realized that she was totally out of my radar!   She is like a mischievous pup let off the leash each time we bring her out.

Just now when we had finished shopping for fruits and veggie at the pasar malam and were at the car loading the stuff into the car trunk, she touched the hot exhaust pipe with her hands!  Then with the black hands, wiped them on her dress!!  This fella is really challenging and testing my already wearing thin patience to the max!

Know what? I am very, very tempted to get this safety harness and wear it on Rascal #2 whenever we go out, so that I know she’s safe in my hands!!

This safety harness is available at my online store, Old And New Stuff For Sale.

Sleeping Child

See how comfy Baby is here snuggled up like a little pup with its mummy… with her little head resting on daddy’s big fat thigh.  I was quietly dressing up in the room one morning at around 6:45am, ready to go for my daily morning run but when I saw this, I just had to snap a picture… for remembrance sake. Baby sleeps like the clock’s hand and moves round the bed every half hourly.  Hubby and I are often kicked by her and sometimes she hogs 3/4 of the bed.  It’s really time we kick her outta our bed !

Clandestine Eating

Whenever Alycia and Sherilyn (and even me!) want to eat junk food and Baby is having lunch or dinner at the dining table, we all have to go into secret hiding to eat in peace.  Baby is now not a baby anymore.  She has learned to love eating junk food – ice creams, cakes, biscuits, keropok, chips, etc, etc.  Who doesn’t like junk food eh?  They taste good and you get a rush from gorging on them haha!

Here, Alycia and Sherilyn are having a feast with ice-creams and they are hiding in the wet kitchen LOL!  I have to stand there on guard, lest the 2 monkeys try to creep out and tempt Baby. Yup, they just love tempting their baby sister, aargggghh!!!
