The Latest Sure-Works Motivation For The Girls

… to get up from bed in the morning is their new bicycles. For the past 3 months, it’s been a struggle for Alycia to stay awake when I jolt her up from her sleep at 6am to get ready for school. It’s even 10x worse for Sherilyn. From pulling her up from bed to getting her to drink her milk, brush her teeth and wash up every single morning is a big chore and a big bag of stress. Then an idea struck me. The girls have been bugging me to bring them down to the lobby of our condo to ride on their new bicycles everyday. I told them that if they can just get up from bed quickly, gulp down their milk quickly and get ready for school without me nagging them, I will bring them down to cycle in the evening. That’s my reward. It is working. For the past 2 days, Alycia sprang up from bed the second I called her. Everything was done in a jiffy and she was all ready for school in under half an hour. Sherilyn was quick too today and did not dilly dally much. I hope this motivation would not wear off after a week or two, else I would have to think of another motivation to get them to move their butt without all the dilly-dallying.

  1. sometimes I do feel the school system is too much for our kids, getting up early to school, got loads of home work and rush to bed early at night in order to get up early again the next day, they really have no time for fun. My girls, Crystal, same like Alycia too, need to charge battery in the afternoon, or else she will have heavy eye bags before dinner.

  2. And Alycia is only in P1, same as my son. I do question myself at times if it was a wrong decision to send him to a chinese school.*sighs*

Yeah, this kind of motivation sure works for kids. If my son wants to have a dip in the pool the next morning, he will follow the house rules by getting ready to bed by 9pm and wake up at 8am the next day for his “reward”, automatically!

  3. really hope this will work for a while before you have to think of another motivational strategy for the girls.

alycia surely do look tired. i wonder if shan leo will go through the same when he starts standard 1 next yr 🙁

  4. Poor Alycia…. I wonder how my son is going to cope at the afternoon class when he starts Primary 1 later! Chinese School is such hectic?

  5. poor gal, my son also going to primary next year, i also don’t know he can cope well and skip his afternoon nap or not, coz he will be in noon class but need to wake up early at 7:30am as mummy need to go to work.

  6. my trick now still “tv” is the alarm clock. Once i on cartoon channel they will wake up, sometime it work sometime it don’t. Always is easier to woke Cruz up but not Fearles. 🙁
