CNY Cookies

2 weeks ago, we bought our first jar of CNY cookie to ‘pong chan’ (help to patronize) the very nice girl who sells veggie at the pasar malam. It was a jar of almond cookies. Several days later, hubs bought several jars of cookies from his supplier (pumpkin seeds, mixed nuts and double chocolate). Boy, they tasted SO good and I’ve been gobbling them every morning for breakfast. I can’t eat them when my 2 older gals are around coz they would get distracted by the cookies and ditch their lunch or dinner. See, being a mother, you have so much to sacrifice. I even have to eat junk food that I love inside the kitchen or when they are not around, just so my 3 gals can’t see mummy eat junk food and get distracted LOL!!. Of course I will reward them with cookies when they have finished their proper meals.

Anyway, back to the CNY cookies. I bought some more cookies to ‘pong chan’ the lady who sells ‘chai’ (vegetarian) at the roadside yesterday morning.  So pitiful right, gotta toil and sweat under the hot sun or get wet in the rain to sell ‘chai’ and cookies.  It’s this box of almond flakes-pumpkin seeds-black sesame seeds crisps with syrup.  They taste really, really good and half a box is gone!  I’m planning to buy more cookies from her.

My hubs also ‘pong chan’ the sundry shop owner who kept advertising this bottle of deep fried crispy crabsticks. They taste good too but too salty, so I have hidden it so that my gals can’t steal them LOL!!

What’s left of the double choco cookies and almond cookies.  Another bottle of pumpkin seeds cookies was walloped a week ago.

I am planning to buy some more cookies next week, this time from the woman who sells newspapers by the roadside.  Pity this lady who was cheated on by her ex-husband.  Every year, I would buy cookies from her to ‘pong chan’ her, though the cookies are expensive.

Have you bought your favorite CNY cookies yet?  Or you’ve already walloped them all?

  1. the mix nut cookies looks nice lah. for me, every year, by default, my aunty from Bentong Pahang will provide us her home made cookies – coconut, nestum, butter, and the most yummy ‘fah sang sou’.

  2. The cookies look yummy and my, my you are resourceful – getting so many varieties all around your area.

I bake my own cookies and hide all cookie jars on the top shelves of my cabinet. I think the reason for hiding the jars are obvious.

  3. OMG.. so many cookies you bought and eaten. I haven’t bought or eat any cookies yet. I can’t resist the temptation if I saw one lying around at home. My big girl doesn’t like junk too much, so I have no problem eating in front of her. haha.

  4. You are a good mother and a good customer!! So considerate and thoughtful to help them 🙂

I still have the privilege to eat junk food in front of Maine coz she doesn’t know yet. But when the time comes, I think I have to resort to your way of eating junk food…LOL!!

  5. Shireen, i love CNY cookies too. I have ordered a few bottles from my colleague and friend. I will forget about the diet when come to food like CNY cookies and durians, just like you lo!

  6. HAHAHAHAAHAH I cannot help but laugh when you say you have to ‘hide’ when u eat junk food..becoz I do that too!! Imagine..I’m hiding in the laundry room… then one will come running around..have to hide behind my back.. really got guilty look in my face..

SO FARNEE!!!!!!!! Now I know.. we on the same boat….. junk boat!!! HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA..

  7. You are so good to pong chan so many people.. and you even know their backgrounds haha. Oops… looks like I’m guilty of sharing junk food with Chloe. I don’t eat them very often so i reckon anything eaten minimally should be fine gua hehe 🙂

  8. this is why i dont collect the cookies i order till later. 😀 ….and yes, i have to hide too when i eat junkfood. ever since rye li came along, we’ve stopped buying so much junkfood but not ice cream though. so when i want 2 eat ice cream, i wait till the kids are asleep but it’s so fattening 2 eat ice cream at night!

last 2 weeks, i curi-curi eat my durian ice cream potong in my room b4 i had my shower in the evenings. LOL!

  9. I think it is very usual. People tend to eat more CNY cookies b4 CNY. During CNY, every house serves almost same types of cookies, you might feel “muak” when you see it. Then after CNY, you might just slowly finish whatever leftover cookies b4 it turns bad.

  10. yes, i have started to wallop CNY cookies too. just got a box of milk powder dragon cookies this morning. and we already walloped donno how many tins of arrow root chips (ngar ku)…luckily they were home-made so much cheaper

  11. yayaya .. i also do that. Hide from them the things that they aren’t allowed to eat. hahaha .. felt bad after that tho.
wah u wallop so much .. aren’t u afraid that u’ll put on weight .. then can’t wear new clothes how???
