Must Have Door Stopper

After rascal #2’s thumb got squashed by a steel door about 2 years ago (the bone of her left thumb cracked a little and the nail was yanked off.  It was a bloody scene at home and in the hospital.  Eeeeeekssss!), I have developed a strong phobia of my kids’ fingers being squashed by doors. Since then, almost every door in our house has a door stopper and all our bedroom doors have 2 door stoppers – one in front and one at the back, where the door hinge is.

Most of the conventional U-shaped door stoppers are for the front of the door. The back of the door where the door hinge is, that’s where the finger accidents happened most of the time to Sherilyn and Alycia. Before I found out about this amazing door stopper for the hinge, I used 2 U-shaped door stoppers – one in front and one at the back. On some doors, I used a floor door stopper, ie those where you place on the floor to stop the door from moving. But the U-shaped door stoppers are often breakable and they tend to drop off the door when there’s strong wind and the door slams hard. As for the floor door stopper, my kids tend to play with them (esp Baby) and they always go missing.

When Cosway sent me a brochure the other day, I saw this door stopper and I knew I must get a set:

The plastic door stopper is hooked at the door hinge and it’s pretty child-safe in that it prevents the door from closing and the gap behind the door is big enough not to get a toddler’s finger pinched from behind when the door moves.

When you want to close the door, simply remove the door stopper and hang it on a holder next to the door.  A set of 2 door stoppers only costs RM6.90.

All our bedroom doors are now affixed with 2 door stoppers – one in front and one at the back. It’s better to be safe than sorry. I want no second time waiting at the hospital ER with my kid with blood everywhere on the hospital floor!

Our Saturday

As I am typing this post, Baby is now being babysat by her 2 sisters who are entertaining her in my bedroom. Alycia is as usual inside the playpen cuddling her and letting Baby step on her head and all over her, hahaha! Sherilyn is on my bed experimenting hair styles and arranging out her clothes for tonight’s dinner. This vain pot is really vain. We’re only eating out at a nearby eatery and she’s all excited.  She went through her wardrobe to search for outing clothes…..she has even chosen clothes for her jie jie and laid out both her clothes and her jie jie’s clothes on her bed neatly *slaps forehead*  That will be another post to blog about, which I will do next week.

Here are some pix of my 3 gals enjoying kon cheen har loke (dry-style pan fried prawns) taken last week:

Baby is absolutely crazy over prawns. Her fight with her jie jie over the prawn made her say “I wan” (want)!

Me, me, meeeeeeeee……. I want mameee………!

Check out my other blog (aka my food blog) for the recipe.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Of Sherilyn And Her Wacky Fashion Sense… Again

I had a good belly laugh when I saw rascal #2 in this hilarious hip hop fashion:For a moment, I was trying to think hard what on earth was over her pants. Then I realized it’s the bottom from her 2-piece swimsuit which she hardly wears. And I really think she has high potential to be a super star, muahahahaha….. That’s why she loves wearing this Bossini t-shirt with the word ‘Super Star’ imprinted on it!And she can even perform a hip hop dance wearing that silly suit, HAHAHA…..Now you know why she wants to wear this bottom coz it looks too sexy and hip hop, haimai? Even I am tempted to squeeze into it muahahahahaha….. FAT hopes!

Terror Baby

Does Baby look like someone who had recently gone through 2 surgeries in 2 weeks?

Baby now hates to be caged up in her playpen. Unless she’s put in front of the tellie with her favorite VCDs played or have some toys that can marvel her, she will climb out of the playpen like a cat with her legs clawed to the side netting. And she can successfully climb her way out with some huffing and puffing when she pushes herself up, without any fear for she knows mummy is freaking scared…. and will wait with both her hands to catch her. My oh my, this fler is really manipulative, just like her #2 jie jie. She gives me such heart-stopping moments the whole day.

Aly and Sher’s former nanny and my mum always shake their head and ask me why my 3 girls are such terrors. Always restless, always moving their body, always whining (#2), always yelling and throwing tantrums and so rebellious. Why, why, tell me why are they such terrors? Must be all the hormone jabs and tabs that I took when I was carrying them. I hope not.

My Little Vain Pot Who Wants To Be Hip Hop

Each Saturday after her ballet class, Sherilyn will amuse me with her dress sense when she steps into the house. Though there are clothes that I’ve already packed for her in her bag for her to change after class, she will be up to all sorts of fanciful fashion ideas like wearing a t-shirt on top of her ballet costume (with tutu and stockings still on) or changing into a spaghetti strap top while her tutu and stockings are still on, wearing a 3/4 pants over her stockings and tutu or wearing a skirt over her tutu like this:

Sherilyn oh Sherilyn…. never a sei pan pan strictly-by-the-book person! Check out the bunch of colorful plastic bangles on both her hands *rolls eyeballs* She secretly put those bangles into her bag when I wasn’t looking and wore them when her ballet class was over!

I think she’s influenced by the group of hip hop girls from Hi-5 or the bevy of fashionistas from High School Musical!  If you’ve been following my earlier posts, there was a period of time early last year when she would always pull one side of her sleeveless blouse/singlet down, just so she could look like one of the girls from Hi-5 in a one-sided shoulder sexy top!  Up until today, she still does that whenever she’s in a mood to look sexy! A few days ago, she made me ROTFL when she wore something that made her look really hip hop, yet hilarious. I shall post about it next. She really has a knack for fashion and style. I think she’ll excel in this arena in future, apart from being in the hair salon business LOL!!

Serious Potty Business

Baby loves sitting on her potty, seriously! She prefers sitting on the potty more than her high chair, I kid you not. While she’s seated on her throne, I strike when the iron is hot. I spoon feed her whatever I have to feed her with… and keep her busy with flash cards, books, board puzzles, toys and what nots.

And I am proud to say that Baby can do her poopie business in her throne everyday – must be around the same time everyday, which is right after her breakfast. Many times we do it together in the bathroom, muahahahaha! Then bathe together 😀 Good mother-daughter bonding!

Learning To Read From The Internet

I used to teach Alycia and Sherilyn reading from free websites like Starfall, KizClub, Story Place and much more, but there was a hiatus during the height of my paid post business where I could not afford to share my PC with them. Those days, I was glued to the PC tapping my fingers away for more than 8 hours a day. Recently I allowed them to play with my PC again.  This time, both the girls’ dexterity, fine motor skills and learning curve have leaped improvements and they can now sit in front of the PC, choose the book they want to read or the game they want to play with and entertain themselves without my guidance.  Alycia’s reading prowess has also improved now and she could also read to Sherilyn.

See how concentrated and serious Sherilyn is whilst on the PC? If only she could be this serious when I coach her in her school homework. Now, the PC is my number one bribe on Sherilyn. Just tell her that she ain’t going to play games on my PC and she’ll hurry up gulp down her milk or do whatever I tell her to do haha!

Both the girls discussing what to click….

Even Baby loves to watch her 2 jie jies reading and playing games on the PC. While the 3 of them are fixated at the PC, I can cook in peace in the kitchen.

Of Cassandra And Her Eating Habits

On our way home after lunch on a hot afternoon, my 3 girls dozed off in the car. The moment I placed Baby on the bed when we reached home, she shrieked! So I figured she needed my boop or someone to hug and that’s what I gave her:

My big big huggable bolster with her hands and legs wrapped round it lol! And it worked…. she felt so comfy, did not utter a sound and continued to sleep until this clean freak mummy wiped her face and hands with a wet hanky.  I can’t stand my kids sleeping on the bed right after they are back from an outing coz they sit everywhere and touch everything when they are outside.

For the past 3 days, Baby seems to have lost interest in her food. She seems to feel full whenever she’s spoon-fed with Pediasure in the morning. For 2 mornings straight, she puked her milk out when I was finished feeding her!  Toddlers her age should be drinking about 8 ounces of milk during each feed but she’s only drinking 3-4 ounces each feed, twice a day. She used to be able to drink 3-4 ounces of Pediasure in the morning, together with 1/2 an egg yolk with butter, some biscuits or bread and about 10ml of orange-flavored Scotts Emulsion cod liver oil (which she actually likes). But these few days, she seems to hate everything that she’s been eating or drinking EXCEPT for mummy’s milkie!! I am really amazed how she can still suckle and suckle my tits like she’s really famished right after her lunch or dinner!

This is one of Baby’s favorite food now :
Heinz iron-enriched ABCs, 123s pasta with homecooked spagheti sauce and minced meat, with a little sprinkle of ground mozarella cheese and ground raw almond for that extra protein.  I guess she likes it because of the mozarella cheese, which is a tad salty.

But I know that if she’s fed with this pasta 2 days in a row, she’ll puke at the sight of it on the 3rd day! This little fler wants OUR food, food that tastes good and is salty!  And she likes to taste something different everyday.  And oh yes, yesterday after painfully eating half her bowl of green tea noodles with fish, brocolli and soup, her eyes beamed when I gave her 1/4 slice of walnut wholemeal bread. That’s it, I told my maid not to cook anything for Baby to eat today. Just feed her with soup (which thankfully is her all-time favorite) and bread – twice a day! Her eating habit is looking more and more like Sherilyn’s, oh gawd!

Baby And Her New Toys

Being the first and only child 5.5 years ago, we spoilt Alycia rotten.  Even her first potty cost close to a hundred ringgit!  Silly me (being a naive first time mom) for I did not know then how impractical those fanciful and cute potties are.   It’s heavy and bulky.  I did not know then how troublesome it was to wash the potty with so many parts, gosh!  I am one who likes to wash the potty after every pee and scrub the potty with detergent and a brush after every poo.  I even wash my own toilet seat twice a day!    Alycia didn’t want to sit on the cute potty with the head of a lamb as handle.  In the end, it ended up at daddy’s office storeroom for 5 years!  Instead, Alycia immediately took a liking for the 3 ringgit blue plastic no-frills potty bought from the market… and was potty trained in that cheap and practical potty!  So was Sherilyn and now Baby …in the cheap cheap no-frills red and blue color potty which my mil bought from the market lol!  Who says no-frills and cheap cheap things are no good eh?

The other day, the hubs brought back the expensive lamb head potty back from his office for Baby. I told him how impractical that potty was. He would never know coz he has never washed a potty!  With Baby, I can’t recall a time that he changed Baby’s diaper or spoon-fed her.  You see, the more kids I have, the less involved the hubs is with them (when it comes to diaper-changing, bath time and feeding time – all the back-breaking, not nice to do chores!).  Play time and fun time are another story. He’ll be the first to volunteer!

That expensive potty has now become Baby’s new toy, like a rocking horse!

Daddy also brought back Alycia’s first booster seat.  That booster seat has also become Baby’s other new toy!

Baby C Turns 18 Months Today

How time flies. At 18 months, Baby can understand many things that we say and ask her to do, in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay.  Her vocab is also improving by the day.  She’s also showing more and more signs that the Terrible Twos is approaching. She loves to throw tantrums and wants things done her way. When soft approach fails to subdue her, I will raise my voice or spank her gently with my hand! Most times this manages to bring her back to her senses haha!  She’s a very sensitive baby and would droop her lips and start to sob softly the moment anyone scolds her or shows her an angry face, especially her daddy. Tantrums aside, Baby has an angelic smile that will melt even the coldest of hearts.

My sweetie-pie at 18 months….

… with her cheeky smile….

Baby still needs to be spoon-fed Pediasure Vanilla 2-3 times a day (total of 8-9 ounces only a day). She is still breastfed and is very, very hooked on my boops!  Must wean her off soon.  Each spoon-feeding time is still a struggle, especially the morning feed. She still dislikes eating porridge and only wants OUR food!

Her weight is still hovering at a pathetic 9kg. But I guess it’s fine as long as she’s healthy and UTI-free. I’d prefer her to be slim and petite rather than big-sized when she grows up.

Happy 1.5 year old my precious Baby. In half a year’s time, we shall celebrate your 2nd birthday.

Me and my 3 angels. I love Baby’s cheeky smile. She loves to give us this cheeky smile whenever someone snaps her picture.

Baby C’s First Playground Outing

You will be shocked if I tell you that at almost 18 months, Baby C only had her first outing to the playground last week. For the first 14 months of her life, my mornings and evenings were spent feeding her antibiotics and supplements. She ain’t the easiest baby to feed meds and it took almost an hour to get 1-2ml of yucky tasting antibiotics down her throat everyday. The first 14 months of her life also revolved around countless trips to hospitals, painful drips, jabs, daily antibiotics, lots of pain and screams and collection of pee for tests. Looooooong sigh….. The thought of what we had gone through still makes my eyes wet but know what? I have not once cried like a baby during her 3-week stay in the hospital after her surgeries in May this year, though I really felt like crying like a baby in fear and in pain. I had to be strong.

Anyway, enough of sob stories. I hope all these traumatic times are now behind us. Here’s wishing more of such happy days to come for Baby and her 2 jie jies.

Playground at our condo…

All of Baby’s firsts – first swing ride and first time down the slide.  In the past, she only saw these on TV.  Baby girl, you’ll definitely have more of such fun rides from now onwards!

Math – Too Difficult For 6-Year Olds?

Once again, do you think these equations are a tad too difficult for 6-year olds? Do note that the boxes are everywhere in the equations and I think that this is confusing the child coz sometimes they need to subtract and sometimes add in order to get the answer for the box.  I explained the basics/rules to Alycia but I don’t know if she remembers.

Mac N Cheese With Tuna

Mac n cheese is one dish that my girls will never ever get fed up with. Most of the time, I cook it for them from scratch using their formula milk powder or fresh milk, butter, cheddar cheese and grated parmesan cheese. But sometimes I use San Remo instant Macaroni Cheese (supposedly no MSG).

The other day I cooked San Remo mac n cheese and added 1/2 a can of tuna fish for that added calcium and protein.

Also blanched some french beans for some fibre, phytochemicals and more protein.

Verdict : They loved it and licked their platter clean! Though not quite a nutritionally sound meal but it’s one that would surely bring excitement and smiles to my girls’ faces.

Business Ideas

I have loads of business ideas on my mind right now. I miss the days where I can earn a few thousand ringgit a month working from home doing paid posts. With the global economic downturn, almost everyone has been hit hard, including bloggers like me who blog for money. The more I see my blogger friends starting their very own work-from-home business, the more I am tempted to start my own. Some of my ideas include setting up an online shop, an organic shop, a small eatery for health and diet freaks and even purchasing a couple of vending machines from Vendstar. I’ve been told that the bulk vending machine business is a booming industry and can offer lucrative business opportunity for people looking for a work-from-home business. I am so eager to gain back my financial freedom right now. But with 3 young kids who need my attention so much, just tell me how I am supposed to get started?

My Little Rascal Who Amuses Me Non-Stop

One afternoon, as usual, the ever hyper-active rascal #2 just didn’t want to take her afternoon nap despite umpteen threats and nagging from me.  And she was disturbing Baby coz I was trying to put Baby to sleep.  She kept telling me that she’s not sleepy and walked up and down the house and self entertained herself.  Alycia was fast asleep in the bedroom.  When she got bored, she fished out the playpen mozzie nets from the playpen pocket and then did this:

She tucked both the mozzie nets at the waist band of her skirt and then danced and pranced…..

She then told me that she wanted to get married and hummed the ‘Bridal March’ tune….. and twirled and turned round and round in the living room till she got dizzy and then walked like a drunkard lol…..

… and wore her yellow duckie bathroom slippers which she had already outgrown, muahahaha!  Later she put the mozzie net over her head, as if it were a wedding veil, LOL!  I must give her a 10/10 rating for her creativity!

For the past few days, she kept telling me that she wanted to be an astronaut when she grows up!  I think she will be a future promising cheerleader or a dancer, a singer perhaps(she loves music and singing), a hairdresser, a salesperson who can really yak and yak and sweet-talk a cow up the boat (LOL!) or a wedding planner, hahahahahaha!   Any job that can capitalize on her gift of gab, I think this rascal will excel in!

Happy Kids = Messy House

My hubs who is a neat freak always complains that our house is in a perpetual mess. He expects to step into a house where everything is spick-and-span and everything is placed where it should be. He seems to have an OCD with neatness and always tidies the house, keeps our things and throws my things away without first telling me …. and this always drives me nuts!  Can you feel my burning anger when he always throws the things that I still need and love?  Aargh…. I can almost strangle him!  I always tell him that he has not just 3 kids but 3 very samseng, hyper-active and rambunctious kids, so it’s a very normal thing to have a house that’s upside down, hahahahah!    Here’s a common scene in my house:Eye sore – cushions strewn everywhere, chairs turned upside down with the legs yanked off all the time, toys scattered in every nook and corner – under and above the bed and couch, under my pillow and blanket, school bags lying everywhere and food dropped everywhere on the floor. One minute you tidy up their things, the next second you turn your back on them, things will be messed up again.  I guess we will have to bear with this for at least another 3-4 years.Have a great Sunday everyone!
