Lots Of Salmon

Everyone in our family loves salmon fish. We love it eaten in any form – raw (we have never let our gals try it though), steamed, pan fried, grilled, toasted (wrapped in aluminium foil and toasted in the oven) and BBQed.  We normally pan fry the salmon head and then boil it to make a pot of nutritious and yummy soup. Even Baby C loves salmon.

Hubby bought one whole salmon fish from Lee’s Frozen last week and had it cut into slices and put into take-away plastic boxes:

I love the deep orangy color of the salmon… which means that the fish is fresh.

We had so much salmon fish that Baby C has been eating salmon porridge for the past 1 week.   This is Baby C’s bowl of salmon-beet root-pork-veggie porridge and she loved it.

I know salmon fish is full of goodness, Omega Fatty Acids and nutrients, but I still feel wary each time I eat it. In fact I feel wary each time I eat big, deep sea fish as I wouldn’t know if I’m reaping the benefits of the fish or slowly poisoning my body with the consumption of these fish as big, deep sea fish have been notorious for being tainted with mercury.

  1. I’m so jealous :). Good work on cooking healthy foods for the family, I have a 1.5 year old, and it’s hard to get her to eat healthy

  2. Haha, wat a coincidence! I buy a whole salmon fish from the fishmonger… it’s damn fresh when I bought one two weeks back, I smelt it and it was almost bliss..so fresh! We put it into plastic wrappers to save space. Have only tried salmon porridge, baked salmon garlic in aluminium foil, fried salmon (VERY CRUNCHY!) with rice flour, salmon with tomato sauce… etc… How much did your hubby buy per kg from Lee’s? I got mine whole at RM45/kg but if sold by slice, they charge RM60/kg

  3. better buy farmed rather than wild salmon. that way you won’t worry about mercury. also there are cases of unscrupulous farmers dyeing the fish orange, so getting the fish from a reputable source is important.

  4. i love salmon too…….
btw, salmon has those small tiny bones… do u remove them or eat them? that;s the hardest part for me while serving philip..

  5. Jazzmint and Elaine… Lee’s Frozen is located at Jalan Kg Attap. They even have a website. Do check them out at http://www.leesfrozen.com and to get their contact nos.

Rachel… I know, I hate those elusive small bones planted inside the meat. That’s why I use a pair of scissors to cut the fish meat b4 serving BBC. This way, those tiny bones can be detected.

  6. Funnily enough, I only like salmon in its raw form. Otherwise, I won’t touch it. These days there are a lot of farmed salmon which is at least 50% the price of wild salmon. I heard that farmed salmon doesn’t have the same level of nutrition plus may have artificial additives to make them grow faster for harvesting. The easiest way to detect farmed salmon, besides the price, is that it is not the bright orange colour.

  7. well, eat everything in moderation..that is my guiding principle when it comes to food selection for my kids.

We eat all sorts of fish – salmon, cod, threadfin, gourupa, batang, prompet, seabass etc.. 🙂

  8. Eat everything in moderation. We love salmon too. Usually marinate in teriaki sauce or just the dark soya + honey + pepper. Pan grilled them without any oil. Great to eat with rice. Your porridge is so orangy!
