This is a backdated post.
Alycia had her first actual ballet exam in early May this year. How did she fare? Well I really don’t know coz the exam was held on a day which was 3 days before Baby C’s surgery and I was busy packing our bags then (for the trip back to Ipoh the following day and thereafter to Penang the next day) and didn’t follow her to the exam hall.  All I saw was a certificate of participation and her ratings. Anyway, Alycia has lost interest in ballet and she together with Sherilyn had not been attending their ballet classes for over a month, ever since hubby and I were in Penang to attend to Baby C’s surgery. When I’m back in KL, I will have to settle her ballet lessons matter and ask her if she still wants to continue her lessons.
Anyway, on the day of her ballet exam, I spent almost an hour tying her hair into a bun. But when she came back from the exam hall, I was really surprised to see her in another hairstyle, like this:
According to my mil, the teacher said the bun which I had tied wasn’t acceptable, bleh! Anyway, I really think my pretty Alycia looked very much like a Korean girl with that 2 little buns on her head, complete with pink ribbons on each bun. There was also a tinge of make-up on her face. I think it would be such a waste if Alycia is really adamant that she doesn’t want to continue learning ballet as she’s already into it for more than a year. But then again, it’s also not going to bear any fruit if she’s learning something by force without any interest, right?

She really looks like you. She is so sweet in this picture.
How dare the teacher do that! I really think she is a tad too anal to be so fussy over hair for a little girl’s ballet exam, for crying out loud! I’m glad u will let S decide if she wants to cont. with the lessons..so glad u are not one of those mums who force the kids into ballet or music or what-not. I’d suggest karate or tae-kwan-do for little girls..so important for physical development, self-image and self defence(NOT offfence!).
she really looks pretty here, with such a sweet smile. Children tend to practice ‘out of sight, out of mind’ – She has forgotten how fun ballet was since she could not attend her classes. Once she starts again, she might get into it again. Otherwise, can always start her on something else she likes.
it’s best to let her decide.
she looks so adorable n pretty. the ribbons on her head matches her dress too 🙂
its so diff to know if kids are interested or not. but i think maybe let her try a few more mths to see if she really like it? u know la, kids, learn things half way then dont wanna cont already. anyway, go with ur instinct!
Yes, it is very wise of you to check with her again whether to continue the ballet class. Let her make her own call.
maybe talk to her n ask her why she want to stop…also no point to carry on n forcing her to carry on if she has no interest…
Alycia is sooooo pretty! like daugther like mummy! you are indeed a very understanding mummy for not pushing her to do things she don’t enjoy ya! 🙂
so lenglui 🙂
Wow… cheh cheh sooooo pretty 😀
Yeah, it would be a waste if she decides not to continue, but perhaps she have other interests?
Agree with the rest … Alycia is so sweet and pretty (like her mother marr) 😀
Hi, may I know which place I can buy those leotard, tutu and bllet shoes in KL? I can’t find those in Miri and my hubby will be traveling to KL next week and try to get a set there. Thanks
such a sweety pie! My hubby wants the gals to follow the ko ko take up taekwando wor. Surprisingly they agree after they refused to take up music class..the kiderbear programme! Kek sei ngo!
alycia looks so pretty here!
we are in the same dilemma as u 2. shan leo says if he has a choice, he doesn’t want to continue his piano lessons *sigh* he says that playing piano makes his fingers tired. so, his daddy says we should stop his piano lessons. but, we think its a waste. so, we also dunno what to do???
Ballet is one really tough sport to sustain interest in unless the child is really interested. The exam standards are high and the training is tough, which is why it’s one of the most coveted ECAs…
One of my former students is a wonderful ballerina (her mum runs a ballet school) with a beautiful heart. She eats, sleeps and breathes ballet and is intent to help her mum run the school later…if I have a little girl, I’ll definitely enroll her with my student 🙂
Maybe talk to the girls to check why they’re not too keen?
Hi, recently just discovered your blog and i find it very interesting. I trully admire you for being tough and going through all the pain. Btw, your girls looks really amazing and cute. Definitely got your looks! keep up the good work.
hmmm… we still haven’t gotten my girl’s result. But she’s been continuing her lessons in Primary level. We asked if she wanna cont, coz PaPa was getting lazy to fetch her. hahaha She decided she wants to cont, so she cannot make a fuss on days when she’s too lazy to go.
