Precious Wee Wee

I had another very, very hectic, tiring and stressful today.  Remember I mentioned in my earlier post that I brought Baby C to the paed’s clinic last Saturday as she had greenish gooey discharge on her diaper?  As her urine still smelled a little foul today, I decided to go ahead with the urine test.  So this morning, I spent 2 hours doing nothing but breastfed Baby C intermittently (so that she has ample wee) and waited for her to wee wee.  Also had to use 2 urine bags to collect her precious wee wee.  The first bag was a little faulty and the wee leaked out onto the diaper.

After nursing Baby C, I had a quick breakfast (and I was merely swallowing the food without really tasting them), then went to the crib and made some “shheeee  shheeeee”  sounds to stimulate her senses to urinate.  It really ain’t easy to collect the urine coz some of the urine will leak from the opening of the urine bag into the diaper.  I had to stand at her crib with my eyes fixated at her diaper, with her diaper unfastened, for hours to wait for her precious stream of wee to trickle out.  The minute I saw ample wee, I quickly poured the wee very carefully into a sterile bottle and quickly called hubby to hurry home to bring the sample wee to the hospital.

The urine collector bag.

Baby C’s precious wee wee which took me 2 painstaking hours to catch it, only to be told that it wasn’t enough to do 2 tests! Sh*t!

So what’s next?  I spent another 2 hours catching a second batch of urine.  I breastfed Baby C every half an hour so that she has enough fluid to pass out.The first time round, she poo pooed big time and I had to discard the urine bag (with some precious urine in it).   Thankfully, the second time round, I managed to catch the wee minutes after she had pooed.

I had just called the hospital lab.  The initial urine test result showed that the urine is cleared of bacteria. Thank God! I now have to wait for the urine culture test results next, which will take 2-3 days.

Sigh…. I was so worn out that while I was reading to Sher a moment ago, I dozed off on the couch!

And oh yes, I still managed to steal 20 minutes to work out on my trampoline in the morning when Baby C was napping!

  1. I guess getting wee wee samples are easier for boys. I did for Ivan last time at the paed’s… they stuck the bag with adhesive to his private part, and the birdie is actually in the bag (makes less leakage) and I could even let him put the diapers back on. Before we even left the clinic, I checked his diaper and found that he already urinated… what luck!

  2. I agree with Sasha..just reading this post is making me stressed out too. It is quite difficult to collect urine from infants..and you definitely has a lot of patience.

  3. It’s funny hor – when we want them to do something, they take forever. But when we don’t want them to do it, they will. For example, when we change baby diapers, we are always scared that they will shee-shee on us. I know my kids have done that a few times. Now here you are trying to collect your baby’s urine, and it’s taking ages. Hope you get good news on the test results.

  4. Ur post sure brought back memories as both A&A had UTI during their early months. A1 got it at 3 months & he had recuring infections. Used to collect his urine every month or so. At the end he had to be circumcised & only after that he was free of it. A2 got it 2nd day after his birth. Thank God he got in UTI only once & I believe it’s bcause he was bf fully for 2.5 yrs. Yeah it’s really tough as have to be very patient. I remember I’ll observing to colect the urine for a long time & just when I turned for something, he will then decide to do, sigh!

  5. I had a tough time catching zen’s urine last time too! he moved so much that the bag was almost always out of place… so I do understand how frustrating it was for you… hang in there ya.. and luckily it was cleared of bacteria.. hope the culture test turns out ok too..

  6. Sheela… I believe ur boys don’t hv Kidney Reflux. I’ll know if BB C has KR by next week after she does the MCUG test. Yes, it really requires tons of patience if you hv a bb with UTI… and I am surprised I am oh so patient with BB C.

  7. Yes my boys didnt have the kidney reflux, thank God!The Docs wanted to do the MCUG but at the end DH’s cousin who is a plastic surgeon said no need to do & just try circumcising Abhijay (which we did when he was 7 mths). Thank God, it worked & he didnt have any more UTI afterthat .
