Platform Beds

I am still thinking if I should bring along my king-size bed and mattress to our new condo. After placing a king-size bed, a baby cot, three chests of 4-tier drawers and a built-in wardrobe, I think our room will so cramped we have to squeeze our way into the room or walk sideways to get from one end to the other!  Maybe I should consider getting a platform bed like the ones from platformbedsonline.com since the space beneath the bed’s platform can be filled with drawers. My friend who stays in a condo has platform beds with drawers and cabinets beneath the bed for all the three rooms. I think it’s really a very practical idea since all the space beneath the platform bed will be utilized. With drawers beneath the bed, I can do away with the three chests of 4-tier drawers that we plan to place in our room. Space is really at a premium in condos and I have to plan the furniture wisely to capitalize on every inch of space that is available.

However, if ever we are going to move to a bigger house, I would love to get a four poster platform bed. Sleeping in this kind of bed with jacquard drapes makes me feel like a princess, married to a prince and living in a castle and I am sure my 3 girls will be thrilled to see this kind of bed with drapes, as if they are inside a tent!

My Nightmarish Post C-Section (Part II)

This is a continuation from Part I….

For the first time in my life I was desperately hoping to pass out wind.  I could feel my tummy harden, followed by an immense pain each time the spasm of the guts attacked me.  I was praying to God day and night for a miracle to happen.

When my Ob&G could not treat me and make me pass out wind, he suspected that I had very inflammed guts as the pain that I had even spread to my both my shoulders and I felt as if my body was semi-paralyzed when the spasms attacked me. My Ob&G then called his colleague, the Gastroenterologist who came to see me. My Ob&G told me that I needed an X-ray of the guts and if the x-ray shows that my guts are all knotted, I will require another surgery to fix the problem. I cannot tell you how worried and horrified I was at that moment. I cannot imagine myself going through another major surgery.

Thank God, the X-ray showed that my guts were all clear. The Gastroenterologist then came to see me and pressed my tummy. I had a shock of my life when he did a test where he pressed my ‘battered’ tummy deep with his fingers and then released it hard….. unceremoniously, in a way that my tummy ‘sprang back’. I shouted out in pain and had cold sweat dripping down my forehead.  He then ordered that I be injected with antibiotics and an anti-inflammation medication through my IV.  I was also ordered to be pumped with another big bottle of 133ml enema into my rectum. The sight of the huge bottle of enema sent shivers down my guts. But that was the life-saver.  Seconds after the enema was pumped into my sore bottom, I rushed to the bathroom.  I tell you, I felt so relieved as the air came out like a balloon that was being deflated.  Farting and pooing had never felt this good (sorry for being blunt but that was exactly how I felt and for the first time after my c-section, I could muster out a genuine smile on my face).

This episode is indeed a blessing in disguise.  Had I not gone through this, my hubby would never know how much I had suffered and had I not gone through this ordeal, he would still insist on having baby no. 4!  Can you beat that? Hubby loves kids and wants as many as I can bear him but for me, I have always been contented with just 2.  I could see how anxious and how bad hubby felt when I went through this ordeal.  Now, we have both agreed that this will be our last baby.  Hubby heard with his own ears from the gastroenterologist today that my body just cannot tolerate anymore surgeries.  My body’s reaction to surgery is that most of my internal organs will adhere to each other after each surgery. This happened too when I delivered Sherilyn via c-section but it wasn’t as bad as the 3rd c-section.   With God’s grace, I hope that I do not have to undergo anymore surgeries…. for the rest of my life.

The life saver – the big bottle of enema that was pumped into my rectum.

My Toe-Sucking 3-Year Old

This little brat loves to amuse us with her antics and sometimes she does things that are unimaginable.  The only time she will keep her gap shut and lay still is when she’s deep in her sleep or when she’s watching TV, otherwise, she is always yakking away, asking me all the ‘whys’ and doing stunts that will leave my heart skip a beat or two.

About 2 weeks ago, as I was putting on the diaper for Sherilyn just before bedtime, she did some acrobatics and began sucking her toe!  I thought only babies do it but looks like even a 3-year old loves to suck her own toe….. gross!

Baby @ 6 Days Old

These pix of baby with different facial expressions were snapped yesterday @ 6 days old :

Hubby and I have yet to agree on a name for Baby. While I like fanciful and girlie names, hubby (who is quite a Chinaman LOL!) prefers a more conservative name.  We still have less than 7 days to come up with a name and register her for her birth cert.

So, who do you think Baby looks like?  Hard to see eh?

Beautiful Fountains

Feng Shui is an ancient system of balancing the good and bad, the Yin and the Yang. This Chinese philosophy believes that the arrangement and positioning of things in our surroundings can affect the flow of energy, which can produce either a favourable or unfavourable effect on one’s health and wealth. In feng shui, fountains are considered beneficial to one’s tranquility and well being. Many feng shui believers place indoor water fountains inside their homes or outdoor water fountains in their gardens as water fountains are believed to bring Chi energy that can be beneficial to their health and future. They believe that good Chi is attracted to water.

If you are a feng shui believer or a fountain lover, you can choose from a wide selection of lovely indoor fountains available in hundreds of designs, materials and sizes at discountfountains.com.  At Discount Fountains, you will find everything from large indoor waterfalls to small decorative fountains for your desk, your bedside table or for your wall at discount prices – thus the name Discount Fountains. My Nightmarish Post C-Section

The post c-section for this delivery was the worse of my 3 c-section deliveries. My gastroenterologist told me that the more surgeries / c-sections that one has, the more risk it has to the guts.

In my case, there were a lot of adhesions on my womb and on the muscles, flesh and what not as this was my 3rd c-section.  My Ob&G did a lot of cutting (I could hear him snipping my dunno what away for at least 15 minutes before Baby C was delivered) of the adhesions and tugging of the muscles and what not to ‘clear way’ to the uterus.   Consequently, all the snipping and tugging have inadvertently inflammed my guts. The gastroenterologist told me that in some rare cases, the guts get knotted and surgery will be required to fix the knotted intestines.  The spasm of the guts that I had attacked me every 5 minutes throughout the day for 2 days and that was the worse experience in my life.  The pain was really unbearable and I really wanted to cry.   I could feel the wind all trapped inside my guts, fighting its way out but somewhere was blocked and the wind was causing me immense pain. I was really depressed – because of the pain and because I couldn’t eat. From being able to drink water and Milo, I was ordered to be put on drips again and NIL by mouth…. until I passed out wind but that seemed so difficult….

The Two Proud Sisters

Alycia and Sherilyn getting all excited seeing their new baby sister for the first time.  They were fighting to touch, hold and kiss the baby when they were in the hospital.

Back home, Alycia and Sherilyn were always trying to get my attention.  I know they missed me very much during my 4-day stay in the hospital, especially Alycia.  Whenever I am in my bedroom with the baby, the gals will insist to be in the room too.  And poor me had to multi-task.  Yesterday night, as I was breastfeeding the baby on the bed, Alycia sat on a stool at the bedside table on my right.  I was coaching her in her homework, which was not done since Thursday last week.   On my left was Sherilyn on the bed with books spread on the bed and I was reading to her.  It really ain’t easy to be a mother to 3 kids.  Hopefully I will get a hang out of it pretty soon.

I Want Sleep

Baby C has been sleeping with me on my king-size bed since the day we were discharged from the hospital on Saturday last week while the confinement lady sleeps on a single-size mattress on the floor.   Baby C is quite a good baby but will cry when she soils her diaper with poop or when she’s hungry.  On the first night, she pooped almost every hour (only stains of poop on her diaper, but this cleanliness freak baby wants to be cleaned up immediately) and cries for milk quite frequently.  I tried to breastfeed her exclusively but she’s crying for milk almost every hour if fully on my milk and this is exhausting me.  I think my milk is a tad thin as I have been ordered by the gastroenterologist to go slow on food – preferably no meat, no milk, no rice, no red dates water, no hardcore confinement food, strictly no alcohol, very little ginger in order to rest my guts that have been inflammed. If care is not taken, the inflammed guts could be infected and this could be a serious condition.

The lack of sleep is making me give up breastfeeding exclusively and I ended up asking the CL to mix feed her with formula.  Tonight I will ask the CL to sleep in the adjoining room next to my room with Baby C on the baby cot.  This way, I hope I can have a restful night.

Investing In Gold

I have collected quite an amount of money from ‘ang pows’ (red packet) from friends and relatives for my kids during Chinese New Year and also for Baby C after her birth recently. My mum has been reminding me to keep the money in the bank but the thought of the miserably low interest rate for fixed deposit is making me think twice. Since the price of gold has been steadily increasing over the years, I think it would be a good idea to be gold investing instead of conservatively placing the money in the bank. Have you ever thought of investing in gold too? You can read everything about gold investment at monex.com.

Welcome Baby!

Baby C at a few minutes old, inside the OT.

Here’s baby C.  I am calling her baby C coz I have not settled on a name for her yet but it’s most likely beginning with the letter ‘C’.  I am undecided between 2 names…

I’ve had quite a smooth sailing c-section but a nightmarish post surgery.  I had inflammation of the guts where I had extremely painful spasm of the guts every 5 minutes for 2 days (a situation caused by too many csections), suffered for 2 days, had an x-ray, had my hands poked 3 times for IV drips, had 3 big bottles of enema pumped into my anus, etc, etc.  But I thank God for it as I believe it is a blessing in disguise.  Shall post about it later.  Ok, gotta go…..

Baby C at 1 day old.

Asian Furniture With Satisfaction Guaranteed

Remember I had posted last week that Sherilyn stepped on the door of our TV console and yanked the door off? Well, good thing hubby who is quite a handyman managed to screw the door back, albeit it is still a tad loose as the sides of the door have cracked. We ain’t going to get a new TV console yet until we have decided when to move into our new condo. This time, we should get a real solid Plasma TV console and one that is more child-proof and can withstand the ‘abuse’ of 3 young kids. A TV console made of solid teak wood would be ideal as teak wood furniture is always evergreen and are sturdy too.

Teak wood furniture hardly go out-of-fashion and if you are looking for teak wood furniture and unique Asian furniture, you should check out Tansu.net. Tansu carries a line of tastefully designed Asian furniture and décor that are either hand-made or made of environmentally conscientious reclaimed wood.  Tansu’s furniture is made from some of the world’s most beautiful wood and they strive to preserve its natural beauty. What’s more, Tansu has an unbeatable low price guarantee that if you find the same item for less at another retailer, they will beat any advertised price.  Awesome isn’t it?

Tomorrow’s Finally The Big Day!

The big day is finally drawing real close.  Just can’t believe that in less than 20 hours, I’ll be meeting my 3rd angel.   My biggest nagging fear is the spinal cord anesthetic, which is really painful and the administration of the anesthetic seems terribly long too. One wrong move and I’ll be finished!

Please do pray for me for a pain-free and fright-free delivery and for my baby to be healthy, normal and beautiful.   I’ll definitely miss blogging and reading all your wonderful comments.

Chubby Alycia vs. Skinny Sherilyn

That’s how different Alycia and Sherilyn look – one is fair while one is hitam manis. One can really eat and eats anything while the other find meal times a torturous time.  One is chubby and the other is skinny.

When mah mah came back from Hong Kong last week, she brought back a pack of Mothercare camisoles (for 4-5 year olds) and panties for Alycia.  When Alycia wore the camisole yesterday, my maid and I broke out laughing out loud coz it was so tight on her.  Her little belly was protruding and she looked sooooo funny….. and sexy at the same time.  She was really very upset and angry when we laughed at her, and thought we were making fun of her, but we weren’t making fun of her.  She looked really funny in the body-fitting tight camisole, like a ‘fei por jai’ (fat little girl).

See her little belly protruding!

And she looked sexy too…..

Instead, the camisole fit Sherilyn better simply because she’s skinnier and more petite…

and Sherilyn hasn’t gotten over her ‘Kelly wannabe’ craze yet and nonchalantly pulled one side of the sleeve down and said “I am Kelly, so sexy!”   *rolls eyes*

Sherilyn And Her Tiara Headband, And An Unhappy Ending

Koo Mah from Hong Kong recently sent many Disney souvenirs and Disney hair accessories to Alycia and Sherilyn.  Among the items is a tiara headband.  The gals were not really too excited over the tiara headband initially until recently.  Of late, Sherilyn has been really vain and insists that I tie up her hair with cute Disney hair accessories and she was also obsessed with the pink tiara headband.  She wore it at home for 2 days straight until the fateful Saturday when Alycia broke the tiara resulting from a tug of war over the headband.

Doesn’t she look ridiculous wearing this tiara headband at home?

The broken tiara headband….

and an inconsolable weeping Sherilyn.

Foldable Trampoline

I have a huge trampoline at home and I wonder where I am going to place it when we move in to our new condo later this year. There will definitely be no space for the huge trampoline in the space-limited condo. I will surely feel heavy hearted to part with it as the trampoline has been my fitness companion for the last 3 years, keeping me slim and fit. I will most probably donate it to the gymnasium at our condo and get myself a smaller foldable trampoline. I have not seen a foldable trampoline for sale here but I have seen one selling at only $60 at allegromedical.com, an online store that sells home medical supplies, life enhancing products and fitness equipment. If only Allegro Medical ships their products internationally, I will surely purchase this foldable trampoline.
