Alycia is really sick and has been throwing up for the last 2 days. Each time her temperature goes beyond 38.5 degrees Celcius, she will puke.  This afternoon just before lunch, she was playing with the maid and laughing away. She laughed so hard that she puked…. and all that came out was phlegm, lots of them. There wasn’t any food for her to puke as she had puked them all out after breakfast. I held the plastic bag and sat waiting for her to puke for almost 15 minutes. Poor Alycia was puking with so much might, pushing out the phlegm that after puking, her eyes were all red and there were tiny red blood spots all over her neck like this :
Last year, the same thing happened to her. It was the first time I had seen such spots. Even the paed at Pantai Medical Center, Bangsar was not sure what caused those spots. He suspected that the spots were due to an allergy to certain medication that he had prescribed her.  I was really worried that it was a symptom of Dengue fever as the spots remained on her body for more than 1 week. A blood test was done to rule out Dengue fever and of course it wasn’t. After that particular incident, each time she puked too hard, the spots would appear on her face and body. Now, I know that the spots would habitually appear each time she pukes.Â
Hopefully Alycia would be feeling much better by tomorrow as she will be attending her first ballet class tomorrow evening.Â

It’s a tough time for you Shireen. You would be more tired than me as you are pregnant and both girls are sick while I only need to attend to Karl who is having fever now. Do take care. I have just said a prayer for the girls. Hope they would recover soon.
The condition u described does happen in crying children as it increases pressure in the blood on the neck and cheek. It’s called the Valsalva effect, and occurs after straining to pooh. This sometimes breaks small blood vessels and leaves petechiae, or blood spots. I guess in Alycia’s condition her vigorous puke could have resulted the blood spots, too. Your Paediatrician should be able to confirm this.
Take care.
Poor gals!! Hope they get well soon. Take care.
poor girls and poor you.. you shouldn’t be worrying too much about the kids ya.. do take care and the girls get well soon..
poor Aly…hope she gets well soon. and hope she can make it too to her first ballet session.
Hi there, just a stranger who took a wrong turning. Regret to read your daughters not feeling well.
Hope they better now.
But you sure have gorgeous daughters.
I bet beauty runs in your family, huh?
You have a nice day, and here’s wishing your daughters a speedy recovery.
Keep well, UL.
POOR GIRL, i hope she gets well soon
Puking out phlegm is good because it’s the body’s way of fighting. what you don’t want is phlehm clogging up inside. But I know it’s so heart-breaking to see your kid puke yah. She should be on her way to recovery soon 🙂
poor little girl. get well soon.
Oh poor Alycia! Hope she get well soon. Which paed u bring Alycia see in Pantai Medical? Dr. Chin ar?
U know what, i only realise last night that, actually sometime Fearles puke, he puked out the phelgm and nothing else.
QQ too, will vomit as she laugh or cry too much if just after food. Prob u wanna give Alycia a smaller food intake, especially now she is having fever, so not much can absorb also…
Poor you and your little girl. Aiyor…. make sure monitor her closely especially fever. And you do take care ya.
Any doctor worth his Hippocratic oath should know that a rash is very common in kids when they are sick. It doesn’t itch and clears up very quickly. With fever, best way to cool the child down is to use a cool cloth on the forehead or put them in a tub of cool water. I know..it’s a difficult concept as the asian thing would be to keep the feverish kid warmer!
I have done this all my life… I was told that it was because my blood vessels were closer to my skin. I do this when I get sick. You should have seen my face while I was pregnant. Not pretty, I looked like I was beat up. 🙂
