Don’t Call Me Fat!

Alycia is super sensitive whenever we comment that she’s fat.  She would go “no, you stop saying I am fat, I am not fat, you are fat” and will hit the person who passes the comment to her with her hands.   Last night as I was cleaning her up and getting her ready for bed, my mum jokingly said to Alycia “your stomach is so big, like mummy’s 3-month old pregnant stomach”.  She got so upset that she cried instantly.  I can’t believe that a 4-year old can get so personal and sensitive when such comments are passed to her.  Do you have a kid who is this sensitive as well?

  1. Ya..even my 2nd twin boy is rather sensitive whenever we comment that he is getting fatter than his elder twin brother (almost 2 kg difference). He would feel upset and crie and refuse to be called “fei cai”

  2. Oh Please!! Don’t ever tell your child he/she is fat or should lose weight! This is cruel and will do irreparable harm to his/her self esteem! Surely we don’t want a child who has no self-worth or becomes anorexic! There is still no cure for anorexia! What’s wrong with baby fat?? For the record, both your kids look perfectly healthy! How abt as caring parents, we encourage healthy choices for eating and a more active lifestyle?? Come to think of it..adults should do the same too!
