Alycia And Our New Maid Are Good Friends

Alycia seems to hit it off really well with our new Cambodian maid.  She tries to be chummy with her and talks to her all the time…. coz she’s got ulterior motive.  Today she asked her kakak to carry her like a baby!  Just a moment ago, she asked kakak to carry her like a baby from the bathroom to our bedroom.  After getting dressed, she asked kakak to carry her downstairs like a baby…. and kakak did it willingly!

Our Cambodian Maid

….. can really ‘kaik sei ngor’ (can really anger me till death).   Though she’s hardworking, some of the things she does can really kaik sei ngor.

She tries to be efficient by putting the dirty clothes into the washing machine whenever she sees them in the laundry basket, even if there were only a few pieces of clothes… and she put 2 full caps of laundry detergent into the washine machine with only a few pieces of clothes.  Can you imagine how much suds there were in the washing machine?  I even had to ask her to rinse the clothes with water again after the cycle had finished.   Though I had told her to ask me first before putting any clothes into the washing machine, she had forgotten again today and did the same thing.  There were so much suds inside the washing machine that some suds were seeping out from the door of the washing machine.

She removed the plug of the kettle from the wall socket when the switched was turned on.

She used the cloth that we wipe our dining table to wipe the fans and windows.

Though  she’s stick-thin, she can eat like a sumo wrestler.  I think her previous employer must have starved her.  She’s lucky that she’s working for us coz no one ever goes hungry in our house.

Sherilyn Is Driving Me Insane

…..with her crying and puking.  Each time she cries, she will surely puke, whether it is a 5 minute wail or a 10 minute wail.  I still won’t really mind if she pukes during the day or at the dining table during meal times but when she cries and pukes on herself and on the queen size bed at midnight, this drives me nuts….. and this always happens.  It happened again last night at close to midnight.

Alycia and Sherilyn had not taken their afternoon nap yesterday as we were out almost the whole day, so I put them to bed early and went down to work on my computer.  Half an hour later, I heard a child crying, which sounded like my neighbor’s toddler’s cries.  When the cries turned into choking and sounds of puking within less than a minute, I knew for sure that it was Sherilyn and I ran upstairs to the gals’ room and saw Sherilyn’s face, hair, pjs and bed covered in her vomit as she had vomitted in her sleep in a supine position.  What a terrible mess she had made and I had to wake our maid up to help me clean up the mess.

It took us almost forty five minutes to clean up the mess – changed the sheets, bathed Sherilyn, blew dry her hair,  mopped the floor,  etc.   What angered me most was that my hubby blamed me for all the mess – saying that I shouldn’t have gone downstairs when the gals are asleep.  I really hate all the blaming.  It wasn’t anyone’s fault yet he pointed the finger at me.  I should have blamed him back coz he was in the bathroom and heard Sher’s cries yet did not do anything. Really so pissed off with him.  He thinks it’s so easy being a full-time mum who has to work from home.  Wait till we switch positions and he’ll understand how I feel.

Fish Spa

Since our plan to visit the Fish Spa at Pavillion did not materializ on New Year’s Eve, we finally made a trip there today. It was an eye-opener and an experience of a life-time but I would not go for another session. I’d rather go for a proper feet massage done by human.

The feeling of being kissed and nibbled by the little ‘doctor fish’ for the very first few minutes felt really ‘geli’ (ticklish). After a while, it felt like having pins and needles on your legs. The ‘nibbling’ made by smaller fish felt like pins and needles whilst bigger fish gave a more ticklish feeling.

The purpose of the fish spa therapy is to let the little ‘masseurs’ nibble away your dead skin cells and pamper your feet to a pleasant sensation and relaxation of ‘micro-massage’, followed by a tingling sensation. It also promotes blood circulation.

Alycia and Sherilyn refused to put their legs into the pond and kept saying they are very scared. At the very last minute, Alycia finally decided to give it a try but putting her legs in but dared not let the fish nibble her legs.

It was indeed a very good experience.  Kenko Reflexology and Fish Spa is located at Level 5 of  Pavillion. It costs RM38 per person for a 30-minute session. Kids below 4 years old are FOC.

Pregnancy At Week 26+

I went for my pre-natal check-up today.  The ultrasound scan revealed that my baby’s right kidney is still mildly dilated.   The umbilical cord is also round her neck in a single loop.  When I heard my ObG telling me that, I was really worried but my ObG was so blase about it and told me it’s very common and said that there’s nothing to worry about as the baby’s blood flow is still good and the umbilical cord is only loosely looped round the neck.   I missed having a glimpse of my baby’s face again as this time, her face was pressed against my placenta.  Baby’s weight is 2 lb 7 ounces and EDD is 22 April 08.  I asked if it’s possible to have a vaginal birth after c-section (VBAC) but my ObG was against the idea as I had 2 previous c-sections. I have gained a total of 8kg thus far.

MIL Is Back

My mil is back from Hong Kong for 1.5 weeks but she will be away for an overseas holiday during the CNY before coming back to KL and will stay on until I have delivered the baby in April.

She brought back 2 huge suit cases and 1 carton box of Disney souvenirs, Disney cookies, chocolates, Manuka honey, famous Macau almond cookies, pineapple cakes, ‘Wife’ biscuits, crackers, herbs, dried stuff,  biscuits from Japan and clothes for the gals.  The gals went crazy seeing all those goodies!!

Goodies from Hong Kong, Japan and New Zealand all scattered on the floor of our living room.  Now, I don’t even have to buy cookies, chocolates, candies and biscuits for CNY.  There is more than enough to last us till next year!

Sherilyn Hates Our New Maid

There just isn’t any chemistry between my new maid and Sherilyn.  When Sherilyn saw our new Cambodian temp maid for the first time, she had just woken up from her nap.  She was sobbing away on the mattress as I was talking to the maid agent.  When I asked her why she was crying, she cried even louder till she almost puked. She did not want the maid to be near her the entire evening.

Today is our maid’s 3rd day with us and Sherilyn just doesn’t like her new kakak.  She refuses to let the maid feed her and would turn her head sideways when kakak feeds her.  She doesn’t want the new kakak to bathe her or touch her.  This morning, when our maid wanted to carry her up the high chair, Sherilyn said “don’t touch me, I can go up myself”.  When the maid wanted to put on the panty for her, she said “I can wear myself, I don’t like you!”   Alycia  who has no problems ‘making friends’ with the maid told Sherilyn not to bully kakak and complaint to daddy about what Sherilyn did.

I am sure Sherilyn will get used to her new kakak in time to come but it’s sad coz when she finally gets used to her one day, she will have to leave when our new permanent maid arrives….. and the whole cycle of getting used to another new kakak begins again!

Relief For Varicose Veins

I finally bought myself a pair of support stockings from the pharmacy to relief the bulging varicose veins on my legs.  The pair of stockings cost me RM89, freaking expensive!  Though I had bought the stockings for 3 days already, I had only worn it once for half a day yesterday.  It’s really troublesome to have to wear the ultra tight stockings.  Not only do I feel hot and uncomfortable wearing it, I have to be careful not to wet it when I go to the bathroom or bathe the kids.  I even have to hand wash the stockings myself coz I don’t trust my new maid with it as the pair of stockings are made of delicate material and tears easily. Hopefully the varicose veins will subside soon but I will need to wear the stockings diligently everyday to see some results.

Mum’s Out, New Temp Maid In

My mum has just left with my brother for Ipoh. I’m now all alone in the house with the gals.  The gals wouldn’t want to nap when granny was here though they were really drained out.  After granny left at around 6pm, they were so tired that I don’t even have to force them to nap. They willingly went to the mattress on the floor and dozed off.  This spells trouble for me as they would nap for at least 2 hours and wake up at around 8pm, which means that they won’t want to go to bed until at least 11:30pm or 12 midnight tonight.

My maid agent has promised to send the new temp live-in Cambodian maid to me tonight.  Though I am happy that help is finally at hand, I am still worried that her attitude sucks.   I still won’t mind if my maid is slow but has good attitude but if her attitude sucks, she will really piss me off big time.   Another problem with temp maid is that after training them well, they would have to leave when the new permanent maid arrives and I would have to train the new maid from scratch all over again…. and that’s really tiring and time consuming.

My Three Miracles Of Life

Any woman who has gone through infertility would understand how painful it is – both emotionally and physically and also strenuous on one’s pocket.  I know it as I had gone through years of infertility before I had Alycia. I had sought various invasive methods of infertility treatments which include taking several rounds of Clomid, underwent a laser ovarian drilling and laparoscopy through a keyhole surgery, double Hysterosalpingogram (Uterotubogram) or HSG to unblock the Fallopian tubes and finally an IUI which is an artificial insemination.

Before I went for each infertility treatment, I surfed the internet and read up tons of information on treatments for infertility and the success rate. When I finally conceived Alycia after a single IUI procedure, hubby and I were elated. However, my pregnancy was not smooth sailing as it was plagued with troubles from the very start. Thank God, I managed to carry Alycia to full-term despite an initial pre-term labor threat (shortened cervix) at week 20 of my pregnancy.  I was then ordered by my doctor to take leave from work for 3 months to bed-rest at home.

After Alycia was born, hubby and I were the happiest and proudest parents on earth.  Alycia was our pride, joy and victory.  I had absolutely no regrets going through what I had gone through and loved every bit being a mummy. Hubby and I wanted another baby soon and this time, we managed to conceive Sherilyn without any fertility treatments.  Alycia and Sherilyn are indeed our 2 miracles and very soon, we will be expecting our third miracle!

Homecooked Food vs Outside Food

After enjoying delicious homecooked food catered from Aly and Sher’s former nanny for 2 days on Monday and Tuesday, we had to eat outside food for 2 days straight, 2 meals a day since Wednesday as the nanny had to go outstation for a couple of days. The nanny is really a great cook and can cook up a storm. On Tuesday, she cooked mushroom chicken,

stir-fried cabbage with homemade fish cake and chicken slices,

and Chawan Mushi with homemade fishballs and crabsticks. As Sherilyn only eats eggs and fish balls, this dish is especially made for her.

Our enjoyment of homecooked food was shortlived when the nanny told us she has to go outstation on Wednesday. After eating outside food for 2 days straight, I am already beginning to feel sick of eating outside food laden with MSG, salt and oil.

I doubt the nanny will continue cooking for us as she has told us it’s too much work for her and she doesn’t want to feel stressed out rushing to cook for us everyday for 2 meals.   Looks like I will have to take over as the cook when my new temp maid arrives.

Pregnancy and Parenting Guide

Do you remember the very first time you said “ Honey, I am pregnant” to your hubby when the pregnancy test kit showed a double line? I still remember that particular day vividly. We were at the fertility clinic and the urine test results showed a positive.  Hubby and I had gone through years of infertility and I had gone for fertility treatments to conceive Alycia. Throughout my pregnancy with Alycia, I was worried sick every single day that I would suffer a miscarriage. I surfed the internet very often to read about early pregnancy, how the fetus was growing, symptoms of miscarriage, birth and labor and much more. I had even printed out articles on pregnancy which filled up 3 thick arch files and read them religiously everyday to check my baby’s development.

If you are pregnant for the first time, it would be really good if you have access to a parenting and pregnancy resource like gurgle.com. This comprehensive website on pregnancy and parenting provides useful information to parents, especially first time expectant parents.  Anyone can register for free. Members can join an online forum where they can post queries and replies, watch interesting online videos, read related articles and much more. My 2 Little Laundry Helpers

My 2 little ardent helpers helping granny fold the laundry. Without a kakak around has to some extent brought out the positive and helpful side in Alycia and Sherilyn. Last night, I was really touched when Alycia said this to me when she saw me folding the laundry “mummy, since I have the time, I can help you fold the clothes”.  But kids being kids, after helping out for about 10 minutes, she soon found it boring and went to play with Sherilyn.

Alycia’s 1st Day Of School – Year 2

Yesterday was Alycia’s first day of school this year. Though this is her 2nd year in pre-school, she had only attended less than 4 months of classes last year. During the first month of pre-school, she kept falling ill (twice a month) and I pulled her out from pre-school in the second month. She only resumed pre-school in September 2007.

Everything went well yesterday – she looked forward to school and did not cry. The teachers also gave her stickers to give her a little motivation. Homework has increased this year and everyday, she brings home a bag full of books for homework.   Luckily my mum is here to coach her with her homework.  My mum who is a retired school teacher commented that the syllabus for 5 year olds is a tad heavy and tough, which I totally agree.     When my mum goes back to Ipoh, I will have to take over her role as the tutor.

I Have Never Been So Tired

Today is the second day I am without a maid.  It’s been years since I last mopped the floor but this time it felt extra tiring having to mop a 2 1/2 storey house with 3 rooms.  I also washed 3 loads of laundry on top of caring for my 2 brats.  Luckily I have my mum to help with hanging the laundry, keeping the laundry and folding the laundry.

My gals, especially Alycia has been very helpful.  The gals were fighting to help my mum fold the clothes.  Though the result was not satisfactory, I just don’t have the energy to be a perfectionist this time.  As long as the clothes are folded and not left scattered everywhere in the living room, I am already very glad.  Alycia even takes the initiative to keep her toys and I am so proud of her.  They have all the while been relying on kakak to pick up their toys and now, they know they have no one to help them anymore.

Sherilyn has been very whiny lately and has been crying till she puked for 2 days straight during meal times.  She’s really driving me up the pole and I just can’t stand her nonsense. I just let her cry and puke to her heart’s content.

I felt all my energy zapped off instantly with all the house work till I dozed off immediately even before my gals dozed off during their afternoon nap this afternoon.  Just hope I won’t go into pre-term labor!
