Simple And Wholesome Toasted Sandwiches

Ever since my maid went back to Indonesia, I’ve been preparing very simple lunch for the gals.  I am too tired to cook and my new temp Cambodian maid does not have much culinary skills.  Today, I made them toasted black sesame  sandwich with fried eggs, chicken floss and Japanese cucumber.  Though it was a simple lunch, the gals loved it, especially Sherilyn who only likes to eat eggs, bread and noodles.  So she ate without any fuss and I need not have to raise my voice or force her to chew and swallow her food.

Practise Whatcha Preach Mummy!

Whenever Alycia and Sherilyn talk non-stop during lunch or dinner with their mouth full of food, I’ll tell them this “don’t talk when you eat.  Your mouth is full of food”.

The gals’ former nanny came over for dinner this evening.  I was busy talking to her whilst I was eating.  I was also reprimanding Sherilyn for not chewing and swallowing her food.  These days Sherilyn does not like being reprimanded and will pout her lips or answer me back.  When she saw me talking non-stop to the nanny, she said this as she wagged her forefinger “mummy, don’t talk when you eat“.  I then ignored her and continued to talk to the nanny.  She then changed the sentence and said louder, “mummy…. don’t eat when you talk!”

What can I say coz I know I should practise what I preach?  I was speechless…. and the nanny and I just laughed out loud.  Kids are really smart these days. So next time, I must be careful what I preach and make sure I practise what I preach!

Lightning Surge Protector For My Golden Goose

Ever since the network card in my PC was struck by lighting, I have a phobia whenever there is lightning. My computer technician advised me to get a surge protector which acts to protect my PC, the modem and our telephone line. The protector is affixed to the wall socket and all other plugs are affixed to the protector. It costs RM70 and he came to install it today. Hopefully this is really useful.

Does anyone of you have a surge protector for your computer and modem too?

Green Tea Pastry Egg Tart

Green tea has been touted as a health beverage and it’s supposedly high in antioxidants.  Green tea has been so hyped up that it’s being used in almost every snack around ranging from green tea chiffon cakes to green tea bread, green tea ice-cream, green tea cream puffs, green tea Kit Kat chocolates, green tea flavored kuaci and now green tea egg tarts.  Hubby got some of these from Mr Cook’s @ Gardens the other day. It’s a new product from Mr Cook’s.  How does it taste?  If you’re a green tea lover like me, you’ll love it.

Bossy Sherilyn

Sherilyn has been trying to throw her weights around to our new temp. Cambodian maid for the past few days by being bossy and bullying her.  This morning Sherilyn said this to our maid when she tried to feed her breakfast “YOU…. DON’T disturb me.  You do your work.  Don’t touch my spoon!”  I was shocked to hear her say this to our maid coz she said that in an authoritative tone and I never use that tone to speak to my maids.   Sherilyn is known as the ‘cili padi’ of the family as she’s the youngest yet the most bossy.

Blogger Is Driving Me Nuts

For those of you with a blogspot blog, have you been facing problems logging in, creating posts, uploading pix, editing posts and accessing other blogspot blogs?  I have been encountering this problem since yesterday morning and this is really driving me up the pole.  Not that I have all the time in the world for blogging now and this problem is eating up too much of my time.

Today the computer technician as well as the Streamyx technician came to check my computer and both times when they were here, everything seemed fine.  When they left, the problem crept up again.  Sounds creepy eh?  Anyway, I have only limited access to my blogspot blog at certain intervals throughout the day and during this time, I have to hurry like a mad woman drafting my paid posts, quickly upload pix, etc coz the next minute, access will be cut out again.  That’s really darn frustrating….

Air Purifier Cum Humidifier

Last week, hubby bought the latest Sharp air purifier cum humidifier.  Alycia has been having colds and throat infections too often and hopefully, with this air purifier placed in the gals’ bedroom, it will help to reduce her nose allergy and colds.

This air purifier has a clean Plasmacluster ion shower mode with humidification, where it acts to remove airborne dust, pollen, mold and allergens from the air.  There is even a water tank built inside the air purifier.  I don’t know how effective this air purifier is but I really hope it will help to reduce Alycia’s allergy and frequent colds.  It better be good coz it cost over RM1,600.

Do you use an air purifier too?  Do you see any improvement in your kids’ health after using it?

Sulky Sherilyn

Sherilyn is still resisting our new Cambodian maid and has been refusing to be touched, fed, washed up, held or bathed by the maid.  Yesterday morning when she got up from bed, I told my maid to bring Sherilyn to the toilet and to have her washed up as I was busy preparing Alycia for school.  Sherilyn got very upset and just sat on the bathroom mat with her bottom naked. She turned her head away from my maid and put on a sulky face as she said “you go away, I dowan you”.

Big Apple Doughnuts

We went shopping at Mid Valley and Gardens today.  When we walked across to Gardens from Mid Valley, we noticed the newly opened Big Apple doughnuts outlet.  I knew hubby who’s a big time doughnut fan would surely get some and sure enough, he queued up for 15 minutes to get himself a dozen of doughnuts.  When we left, the queue was really long.

The durian cream filled doughnut is not too bad.  For someone who does not really fancy doughnuts, I prefer Big Apple to J.Co as Big Apple doughnuts are not as sweet as J.Co’s but still considered very sweet for my liking.

After getting the doughnuts, we headed to the newly opened Penang Gurney Drive restaurant for Penang cuisine.  The restaurant is quite impressive – it is on an individual stall concept but ordering of food is done by a captain.  The variety of food was really huge and the food was really good too.  We will definitely go there again and try other food.

After lunch, we went shopping and bought the gals new shoes.  I also got myself 2 pairs of flat heeled sandals as my high heeled sandals are really a pain to the varicose veins on my legs.

I shall post pix of the delicious food at Gurney Drive so stay tuned….

A Dull Sunday

Today we did not go to church or anywhere as hubby has to work.  My mil went to the market in the morning and brought our Cambodian maid along.  I know for sure that if our maid is away from home for a few hours, many household chores will be left undone and she will not be able to complete them as our maid is a real slow coach.  So I was the assistant to the maid today.  I washed the milk bottles, helped to wash the dishes, cleaned the dining table after every meal, bathed the kids, fed the kids, boiled water and much more.  Also read to the gals and coached them in their writing.

Today, we are having an early CNY reunion dinner comprising of very simple dishes as my mil will be overseas again during CNY.  We used to have very elaborate homecooked dishes for CNY whenever my mil was around but my mil has frozen shoulder now and can’t move her arms, so we have to settle for simpler dishes.

These days, I hardly have time to blog as many posts as I used to previously coz I have been doing quite a bit of house work and supervising our new maid.  I still don’t trust my maid to cook yet.  Yesterday I told her to fry a fish as she told me she knows how to fry fish but the result was quite disastrous.  She did not put enough oil in the wok and part of the fish was burnt. I went to the wet kitchen in the nick of time to save the fish from being totally burnt. The anchovies soup that she made also had burnt garlic in it.

I think I will persuade Aly and Sher’s former nanny to cater food to us.  My maid is just too slow in her work and she can’t cope.  I love the nanny’s cooking and I hope she will agree to my request.

I bet you all had a fun Sunday and went shopping for CNY clothes and stuff, didn’t you?

My Maid Toasted My Pre-Natal Vitamins!

Yesterday, my Cambodian maid almost toasted all my pre-natal vitamins.  My pre-natal vitamins are all placed in a large melamine bowl in the kitchen.  When she toasted bread for breakfast, she placed the large bowl of vitamins on top of the toaster.  I did not notice it until half an hour later when I popped the vitamins and was horrified that the bowl and the bottles of vitamins were hot.  That really peeved me…. but still I did not scold her (tried really hard to control myself), but just told her off since it’s the first time she did this silly mistake.  Luckily the vitamins did not melt, else I would really be fuming mad as those pre-vitamins are all very expensive, especially the Neurogain fish oil.

Lots Of Chocolates and Crackers

These are some of the chocolates, crackers and candies that my mil bought from Japan, New Zealand and Hong Kong.  Most of these expire this year, which means that we have to quickly eat them.  I don’t really fancy sweet stuff and chocolates but it’s really hard to resist when there’s so much temptation and I feel sayang that they will expire soon…. so I have been indulging in a little of these sweet treats everyday.  Hopefully these sins will not cause me gestational diabetes.

Cambodian Maid Stories Again

My Cambodian maid only speaks a smattering of English.  She doesn’t know the word “squat”.  Each time she brings Alycia and Sherilyn to the loo to pee when we go out, she will say this to them “sit” as she motions them to squat at the squatting toilet bowl.  I have been trying hard to correct her by telling her that she should say “squat” instead of sit but she doesn’t seem to remember and till today, she still tells the girls to “sit” on a squatting toilet bowl.   I just hope Sherilyn will not sit on the dirty public toilet floor or toilet bowl the next time kakak tells her to “sit”.  I better make sure I am always around to supervise her when she brings the gals to the loo when we go out.

Deep Fried Arrow Roots

The only time we get to eat deep fried arrow root chips is during Chinese New Year. Many shops and stalls were already selling these chips one month before CNY. I l bought a bottle for RM16 last week and almost finished the entire bottle by myself, with a little help from Alycia and Sherilyn who equally love these chips.
