Swimming Lessons

I am planning to send our kids for swimming lessons next year. Swimming is a survival skill and it’s best to let our kids learn this survival skill as soon as possible. I do have a problem however. We don’t live in a condominium where we can use the pool facility and it would be too costly to join a swimming club. Lots of Excuses

Whenever I ask Alycia to do writing, she will give me loads of lame excuses like she will tell me her hands are tired, she is sleepy, she wants to eat first and all sorts of silly excuses. Today when I asked her to do writing, she gave me this excuse “Mummy, I can’t believe my eyes, I can’t open my eyes di, I am so sleepy.” I gave her a sharp side-way glance and told her to do it or no TV for the whole day. Do your kids give you lame excuses too when they are asked to do writing?

Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez rematch

If you are a fan of boxing, I am sure you will be really excited to know that Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez are scheduled for a rematch on March 15 2008 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. Teppanyaki Ice-Cream

We had our first try of Teppanyaki ice-cream at the Latest Recipe Coffee House @ Le Meridien Hotel last Sunday. I chosed a green tea ice-cream, vanilla ice-cream, some pistachios, peanuts and almonds and the teppanyaki chef ‘cooked’ them on a flat ice-plate. Really intriguing and unusual; so far, I’ve only seen this at Hilton Sentral and Le Meridien Hotel, the 2 sisters hotel.

After the ice-cream is ‘cooked’, we can even choose from close to a hundred types of toppings for the ice-cream ranging from all the nuts that you can think of to M&Ms, jelly beans, dried fruits, marshmallows, wafers and the list goes. Goofing Around

Alycia and Sherilyn love doing silly things and goofing around. It’s nice to see them play and have so much fun with each other but worrying at the same time coz sometimes they don’t realize that they are playing a tad too rough with each other and minor accidents had occured before. When I hear them scream, laugh and squeal in excitement, I have to watch them closely, else they would loose control of themselves and hurt themselves.

A Day Of Puking

First, it was Miss Pukey Sherilyn when she choked on her banana this evening. Despite me telling her to take small bites, she put the last bite of the banana into her tiny mouth, had difficulty chewing it, choked and puked. Luckily I had plastic bags at every nook and corner of the house. I quickly grabbed a plastic bag and caught her puke.

Then it was Alycia’s turn. During dinner, Alycia was gobbling down the fried turnip, which was one of her favorite dishes. She has a habit of stuffing herself with food that she loves without even realizing that she’s too full. Despite me telling her to stop eating, it fell on deaf ears. When her tummy could not handle it anymore, she ran to the loo to puke but was late and puked everywhere on the kitchen floor! I was busy in the kitchen.

Alycia ended up having strawberry jam sandwich and when Sherilyn saw cheh cheh eating, she too demanded for strawberry jam sandwich. There is never a dull moment when you have 2 very interesting toddlers.

Tasty Fish Soup

This is a pot of steaming hot, tasty and sweet fish soup boiled with ‘kau yue’ (is it called Mackeral in English?) bones, head, tomatoes, garlic and slices of ginger. The soup goes very well with noodles.

I had made some fish paste last week and used the fish bones to make some soup. Do check out my other blog to see how I made fish paste and fish balls from scratch.

Relief For Dry and Peeling Skin

I have finally found a relief for my dry, peeling and itchy skin. Here’s what I am doing now :

1) Apply either Jojo oil or Cocoa oil as first layer immediately after my bath, when my skin is still damp (twice a day)
2) Then, apply either Rosken Dry skin relief or Vaseline on the skin (twice a day).
3) Just before bedtime, I will apply another layer of Rosken Dry skin relief or Vaseline.
4) I’ve stopped using a bath loofah to scrub my skin.
5) Bathe with very little body shampoo – almost half the amount of shampoo used.
6) Use a very gentle body shampoo with moisturizer. I’ve recently even switched to a soap-free and PH neutral body shampoo.
7) Apply very little amount of powder on my skin as powder can also dry up the skin.

Now, my skin does not itch ANYMORE and the peeling has stopped considerably. Downside is I smell of cocoa and petrol all the time and my body is perpetually sticky, yucky! What a big turnoff to hubby eh? LOL!

Even after my clothes are washed, they still smell of petrol from the Vaseline. But who cares as long as my body doesn’t itch anymore and I can have a good night’s sleep.

Our Simple Dinner

We normally have 3 dishes for dinner – a must-have stir-fried vegetables, a fish or a chicken and an egg or tofu dish or another vegetables dish. Are these a lot? Hubby usually doesn’t join us for dinner as he works late and doesn’t like bland food (what an insult to my cooking eh?) catered for toddlers. So these dishes are only for the 2 girls, my maid and I. If hubby wants to eat, I will leave some dishes for him.

Yesterday we had a fried fish with blended tomato & bombay onions (sauce), a stir-fried chinese cabbage with homemade fish paste, a chicken dish (left over from previous night’s dinner), a fried egg for the girls and a radish & chicken soup . Are these a lot? Most of my friends say that’s really a lot as they normally only have 2 dishes for dinner.

Butterfingers

Sherilyn tends to have butterfingers. She drops her food most of the time and spills water 9 out of 10 times she is given a cup of water. When she drops something that she loves to eat, she will waaaaail out really loud and this would touch daddy or mummy’s hearts instantly. One time she dropped her New Zealand ice-cream on the floor when we were shopping and waaaaaailed so pitifully that daddy got her another ice cream cone immediately.

Yesterday, Sherilyn was eating a banana and again, she dropped it on the floor as she was walking. She waaaaailed as she knew that was the last banana left. As she waaaaailed, she stared at the banana on the floor and wanted to pick it up to eat. Of course I stopped her and tried to offer her something else but she didn’t want. In the end, I turned on the TV and switched the channel to Animal Planet and that did the trick. She stopped wailing immediately!

Sunday School Party

Yesterday, there was a Christmas cum birthday celebration party at Alycia and Sherilyn’s sunday school. There was a Mickey Mouse pandan layer cake for kids whose birthdays fall in the month of November and December. The kids were given candy canes, nuggets and party packs.

My teachings to the gals on not eating junk food has paid off well. The gals willingly parted with all their snacks and gave to kakak BUT kept only the Mamee snack. Mummy has to give a little leeway, can’t go cold turkey and leave them with nothing, right?

Latest Recipe Cofee House, Le Meridien Hotel

We had buffet lunch at Latest Recipe Coffee House @ Le Meridien Hotel today. There was a wide assortment of food on the buffet spread ranging from Japanese (sushi, sashimi, teppanyaki), Western, Indian, Chinese and local. Though the spread of food was wide, hubby and I didn’t eat much as hubby’s having a flu and as for me, I can’t eat much these days. I was really salivating looking at the spread of fresh sashimi, raw oysters, fried clams, smoked salmon and cold deli cuts but I had to walk away fast from the counters to stop myself from drooling. Just wait 5 more months and I can eat till I puke, LOL!

View from the coffee house was beautiful and presentation of food was attractive. The dessert corner was heavenly but I didn’t help myself to any of the cakes and pastries. Only had an ‘Ice-cream Teppanyaki’. Shall post about it later. Overall, I would rate the food 6 or 7 over 10. Given a choice, I would rather choose Lemon Garden @ Shangri-La Hotel or any of the restaurants at PJ Hilton or Hilton Sentral.
