Christmas Dinner

We had steamboat on Christmas day. We have not had steamboat for almost 1 year already, can you beat that? That’s because we always feel very thirsty after having steamboat. I think there must be loads of MSG in the salty but tasty soup.  Another major turn-off about having steamboat is that we are normally all sweaty and uncomfortable after the meal, unless we eat in an air-conditioned steamboat restaurant.

We went to this steamboat restaurant called A-HO at Taman Desa. It’s a branch of Ho Ho Steamboat in Sri Petaling, the one that’s always packed.

We ordered an extra plate of QQ tofu, my favorite and an extra plate of fishballs for the gals.

This time, I didn’t drink the soup like it was water and I didn’t feel thirsty after the dinner. Thankfully it was also a very breezy and windy night, so we didn’t sweat much. Will definitely have steamboat again soon as the gals enjoy their meals very much.

Happy 2008 To Everyone!

We will all be checking into a 5-star hotel in KL today for a one-night stay and count down to the New Year. Not letting anyone know which hotel we’ll be staying just in case there are stalkers out there LOL! Hopefully our plan to go to the fish spa in Pavillion will materialize. You heard of this spa where you can immerse your feet in water and be ‘massaged’ (more of sucked and bitten) by a school of tiny fish? Hubby and I are raring to try that out. Also hoping that we can bring the gals for a monorial ride round KL.

What are your plans tonight?

To everyone, here’s wishing you all a very happy, healthy and fruitful 2008! May 2008 see a rise in our blog PR and more offers pouring in!

Boxing Day Breakfast

On Christmas day, we were out shopping at Mid Valley. Hubby bought some bacon and sausages from Cold Storage and on Boxing Day, he woke up early to cook them for us for breakfast.

The gals didn’t like scrambled eggs (and I ended up finishing half the plate) but loved the salty cheese sausages. I seldom buy deli meat like ham, sausages and bacon as they are loaded with sodium and preservative but eating them once in a blue moon is alright.

Our Christmas Day

Hubby had bought this Yuletide log cake for my parents in Ipoh. We passed it to my brother at the hotel on the morning of Christmas but when he left the coffee house after breakfast for Ipoh, he had also left the cake behind.

So we brought the log cake home for the gals to have another cake-cutting session. We gave half the cake to our neighbor and my maid finished the other half. When it comes to creamy cakes, I can’t eat much, so my maid is the one who benefits from these cakes whenever there is a celebration.

Ipoh Ngar Choi Kai

We wanted to eat something light and soupy last Sunday, so we had Ipoh ‘ngar choi kai’ at Jalan Gasing PJ last Sunday after church. I can’t remember the name of the restaurant but it’s one of the oldest Ipoh ‘ngar choi kai’ restaurants in KL (over 30 years) and they have recently refurbished the restaurant. There are even misty fans outside the restaurant.

We ordered :

Chicken, pork balls and 2 plates of crunchy bean sprouts. Hubby and I love bean sprouts and we can even chomp down 1 big plate each ourselves.

Roast pork – not fantastic though as the top layer of the skin wasn’t crunchy enough.

Ipoh hor fun soup – very tasty and the texture of the hor fun was also very smooth.

Strawberry Fondue

Alycia and Sherilyn had another surprise when we were at Paya Serai Coffee House @ PJ Hilton to celebrate Raymond’s kau foo’s birthday last week. It was the first time we all saw a chocolate fondue that’s pink in color – a strawberry chocolate fondue, how unique and attractive.

After their meals, daddy brought the gals to dip their choice of fruits on sticks into the flowing strawberry chocolate fondue.

Fanciful Cloth Diapers

I notice that the latest craze most mommies are into now are fanciful cloth diapers for their babies.  I’ve never used them for both my gals and I don’t know how effective they are. I notice that most mommies buy at least a dozen of them though they are a tad pricey, so I suppose they must be really good. Reviews I had read from mommies at lilaguid.com on these fanciful cloth diapers are good. I think I will get a couple of them to try it out on my baby. If you are keen to try on a new baby product, you can now read reviews from tens of thousands of moms from lilaguide.com, a parenting website. There are reviews on baby products, which baby shop to buy what, which restaurants are baby-friendly and much more. Do check them out today. I have already bookmarked this website on my PC!

An Italian Touch

The gals had a taste of fine Italian dining at Villa Danieli @ Sheraton Imperial Hotel on Thursday.

We ordered a spaghetti for the gals. Though there were lots of black pepper on the spaghetti, the gals nevertheless slurped up their spaghetti without any fuss or complaints that it was spicy.

Sherilyn who loves cheese having some Parmesan cheese grated into her spaghetti.  Mummy had forgotten to bring their bibs, so the gals had to make do with the napkins from the restaurant.

As the spaghetti was not filling enough, daddy ordered a pepperoni pizza (mistake, should not have ordered pepperoni) but the pepperoni sausage was very spicy.  So mummy ate all the pepperoni on their pizza.

Want to know what we ate too?  Hop on to my other blog to read on…..

We’re Getting A Confinement Lady

After a long debate discussion with hubby last night, we he has finally decided to engage a CL. I told him that with both his mum and my mum helping me out together with a maid, we don’t really need a CL.  All my reasoning was rebuffed by him.  Well, what can I do now but to accept his decision coz he’s going to pay for the CL. I don’t want him to say “I told you so to get a CL in the first place” to me in the event the original plan did not work out well.  What he said is quite true coz my delivery is not a normal vaginal birth.  It will be my 3rd C-section and for the first week, I will not be able to get up to do anything as my wound will be too painful for me to get up and handle the baby.  I can’t expect my mum to wake up a few times in a night to help change the baby’s diapers as my mum has high blood pressure and can’t take sleepless nights.  My hubby has also said he can’t help out at night as he has to work the following day.  So his decision is final, he will hire a CL and my next task is to find one who’s good.

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions and confinement stories.  To those of you who did not have a CL, my hats off to you wonderful tough ladies!

Not So Sweet Candy Floss

When we were at Mid Valley Megamall last week, daddy bought the gals candy floss to let them try it for their first time. But to our surprise, Alycia and Sherilyn did not like it at all. They found the candy floss wierd looking and not convincingly yummy. The moment daddy put the candy floss to their mouth, they turned and ran away, so funny.

In the end, the candy floss went into the bin, what a waste… and daddy paid RM2.50 for it.

Is Confinement Lady Really Necessary?

These days confinement ladies (CL) are charging exorbitantly.  I called up a few CLs today and most of them are quite demanding, monetarily and in other areas.  Most of them would only want to accept the job if :

1) You don’t stay in a double-storey house (coz most of them have problems climbing up the stairs due to pain in their legs)

2) You have a maid at home, so they don’t have to do so much washing.

3) Your mother or MIL are not staying with you so that they have more freedom and can rule the roost! Who likes having another old lady breathing down their neck when they work, right?

4) You pay them more than RM2700 for only 28 days plus an ang pow of course.

5) They have their own room to sleep and don’t have to sleep with anyone else except the baby.

I called up Pei Ling Confinement House and they are charging RM2880 for their CLs.

Hearing these, I am really considering if it’s really necessary to have a CL. I just need someone to cook for me, bathe my 2 kids plus the baby and to change the baby’s diapers at night and clean up the baby after she has poo pooed in the middle of the night. I can consider getting catered confinement food but what about my 3 kids? Who is going to bathe them and this time, I will not wet my hands anymore during my confinement period.

When I was in confinement after delivering Alycia, I was so eager and excited to be a first time mum that I did many things myself though I had a CL. I wet my hands with cold tap water even in the middle of the night. In the 2nd month, I had very bad Carpal Tunnel Syndrome on both my arms till I could not even hold a baby bottle or open the door. I also had bad bronchitis which lasted 2-3 months until I saw a heart surgeon. The Chinese would say that I had ‘yup foong’ or ‘wind has entered my body’ during my confinement. I never believed these old wives’ tales until I suffered myself.

Part of me still wants a CL lady very much but I just can’t stand their list of demands. I don’t meet most of their demands except that I have a maid and I don’t really mind paying RM2700.

For those of you who did not have a CL and have more than 1 child at the time you delivered your baby, do you mind sharing with me how you coped? Was it stressful? If you have to go through it again, would you have hired a CL this time despite the price of getting one?

Online Backgammon

I never knew what online backgammon game is until I saw my friend’s father playing it on his computer! He told me it’s a good way to stave off Alzheimer’s disease coz the game requires the brain to work. For those of you who don’t know how to play backgammon, it is a board game requiring two players. A backgammon set consists of a board with 24 triangles, 30 game pieces, and two dice. Each player receives 15 game pieces, and they take turns rolling the set of dice to determine how they can move their pieces. The players compete with each other to be the first to remove all of their backgammon pieces from the board. You can download backgammon online for free from gammon-fortune.com and enjoy your game. The site is very user-friendly and you can even participate in backgammon tournaments to win prizes.

Little Vietnam

We had Vietnamese food at this little restaurant called Little Vietnam @ Mid Valley Megamall last week, after the gals’ outing at Megakidz.  Little Vietnam is located on the utmost top floor, i.e where Megakidz is.

We ordered their signature dish, the flat rice noodles with beef balls and slices of beef. It was very tasty but the beef was a bit tough.

Spring rolls – very tasty.

Stewed beef noodles. Tasty but the beef was too tough to chew and swallow.

Vietnamese version of cendol – very refreshing with fresh coconut milk.

Food was overall tasty but the beef was a tad tough.  The next time we go there again, we would only order the beef noodles with beef balls and spring rolls.

Nerve-racking Moments

There were 3 high paying opps from TigaP network since this morning but they were all shaded grey.  Each time the opp turned white (3 times), it took ages to load the page, then ages for the damn captcha to appear, then after I had typed the hard-to-decipher captcha (at times typed it wrongly), I had to wait ages again for the page to load only for me to see the dreaded words in red after the page is loaded.  Do you face such nerve-racking moments too when you try to grab opps from TigaP?
