Thank You

I’d like to say thank you to everyone who had given me their well wishes, comforting words and prayers. Today, I found out from two of my friends that fetus with dilated kidney is quite a common problem. One blogging mom told me that her gynae also detected from the ultrasound scan that her son had a dilated kidney, even up to the time when she was about to deliver him. After he was born, miraculousy he was fine with no kidney problem. However, in some cases, the child would have kidney reflux and would require antibiotics for the rest of his/her life and in the worst case scenario, surgery is required. Another friend of mine called me today and told me that one of her friend’s baby also had dilated kidney in utero but after the bb was born, she was fine too. Hearing these stories gave me some relief but then again, I still can’t seem to get the worry off my mind.

  1. FYI Shireen Rae has kidney reflux as well, level 2. She’d been on Furadantin, a low-dose antibiotic for a year from the time she kena ecoli when we first came to the US (about April 2006) which was how we discovered her fused labia and kidney reflux. Anyway, you outgrow kidney reflux so you dont take antibs for the rest of your life, depending on the level. Because Rae is Level 2, I took the risk and took her off the antib with instructions from her paed that if she ever complains about a urine infection (painful when urine) or a fever, I’d have to take a sample of her urine to the clinic to have a test, so I have a urine container with me from the clinic handy. The antib was really making her immune system ‘lazy’ and she got sick very easily because of it, which was why I opted to get her off it. Furthermore, she’s now five and the passage between her kidneys and bladder is further as she’s grown taller, which is how you grow out of KR.

I’m sure your baby will be fine, girl. She (or he) will be healthy and normal and as naughty as both your girls 😉

  2. Jenn…. it’s such a relieve to me after reading Rae’s case. Thanks for sharing Rae’s story and for the comforting words 🙂
And oh yes, I hv an instinct that it will be yet another girl! 3 girls in the house – I’m sure Tun will be nicknamed ‘Alan’s Angels’ 🙂
