Back to Packing Lunch Boxes—But Not for a Child!

Ever since Alycia started her internship in February, she has developed a habit that was once unthinkable—eating breakfast! She has never been a breakfast person, often claiming she just doesn’t have the appetite for food early in the morning. But now that she has long office hours ahead of her, she has realized the importance of fueling up in the morning. Because it won’t be until 1pm that she gets to eat and utilizing her brain power requires food for brain fuel!

Her breakfast choices are simple and fuss-free—things like a slice of bread with jam, a char siu pau, sweet corn, or buns that she’ll buy at bakeries around her office after work. However, this girl remains as lazy as ever when it comes to preparing her own food. She’s just not a kitchen person, unlike her two younger sisters who don’t mind spending some time prepping their own lunch boxes or meals. Despite knowing she needs something to eat, she refuses to wake up just five minutes earlier to prep her own lunch box. And who does she turn to? Me, of course, and sometimes her grandma!

A Throwback to Primary School Days

This new routine feels like a trip down memory lane. More than a decade ago, when Alycia was in primary school, I used to prepare her lunch box every morning before sending her to the lobby to take a van to school. The menu was always simple— biscuits, buns, a slice of bread with strawberry jam, homemade kaya, cheese, or seaweed, and sometimes reheated food from dinner. It was a small, daily act of love that became part of our morning routine.

Back then, I thought I would be retiring from lunch box duties once my kids grew up. But here I am, at 52 years old, still prepping lunch boxes—not for a grandchild, but for my big baby who is now interning! LOL!

Some Things Never Change

As much as I joke about it, I secretly don’t mind. There’s something heartwarming about knowing that even as our children grow up, they still turn to us for small comforts. It reminds me that no matter how independent they become, they will always be our babies in some way.

So, for now, I’ll continue prepping her simple breakfast and lunch box, just like old times. But I might just start charging a “service fee” soon—maybe a coffee treat in return? 😆

Microwaved sweet corn for Alycia’s lunch box yesterday. She even requested that I remove the kernels from the cob so that it’s easy for her to eat. So I used a serrated knife to slice off the kernels wearing a nitrile glove as the corn was piping hot and she was rushing to go to the office.

Why Some People Love Dressing Like Cowboys

In this internet and social media era, we don’t often see people dressed in cowboy attire, except at a cowboy-themed party where all the attendees are in a funny cowboy shirt or hat.  That said, modern-day cowboys still exist and thrive in places like Texas, Montana, and New Mexico. And then there are cowboy wannabes who admire the lifestyle of the rugged, Western-style, cowboy in hats, boots, and denim.

Just like some people who like to dress up in traditional costumes, dressing up in cowboy outfits never really goes out of style.  Wearing cowboy t-shirts and accessories for a themed party, rodeo event, or a personal fashion statement can be fun.  Fans of cowboy fashion can find plenty of options at specialty online stores like cowboybay.com.

Dressing up like a cowboy gives you a sense of adventure associated with the ranches in the Wild West.  In the movies, cowboys represent toughness, grit, resilience, freedom, and a fearless spirit. They ride on horses and fight off the bad guys fearlessly. Putting on a cowboy graphic tee with rugged jeans gives off that bold Western vibe.

For those with a good sense of humor who love wearing something funny to put a smile on someone’s face, there are plenty of funny cowboy shirts available online from specialty stores. These shirts feature jokes, witty slogans, and playful designs, such as a funny Silly Goose On The Loose cowboy t-shirt.  Picture this: a seventy-year-old man wearing this t-shirt at a birthday party. His t-shirt is a sure-fire way to get attention, giggles, and start conversations.

Cowboy t-shirts and cowboy tank tops are easy to wear plus they’re comfortable, unlike the full Western cowboy attire. These tops can be worn to a cowboy-themed party, country music concert, a rodeo, or simply for casual wear daily. They easily pair with denim jeans, denim jackets, and boots for a rugged look.

At cowboybay.com, there’s something for every cowboy and cowgirl fan, from cowboy graphic tees, classic long-sleeved plaid shirt, cowboy tanks tops, to hilarious cowboy tees. Embrace your inner cowboy or cowgirl and express it through cowboy fashion, yee-haw! 🤠
